said in another thread, but this defense could be truly special with a stud LB flying around behind snacks/jpp/vernon. jenkins/drc/apple locking down WRs, and collins taking the heads off whoever dares catching the ball.
depending on who's available obviously, but this might be the year for 1st round LB.
before 3rd or 4th....Giants just don't seem to value LB very highly in our D scheme. Mainly DL and CB - and Collins is a huge boost from the S spot. Plus we invested a ton of $ in D, we have more holes on O that we should aim for low round (OL, TE, even RB though I'd rather a RB later). Even DT would be a need if Hank is not back. Wouldn't be surprised if they grab a LB at some point, but probably not in the 1st 2-3 rounds...
I'm more concerned about whether Goodson pans out. I just want them to get really good players out of the draft, I don't care what position, or what round, or any of it. Just give me some great guys to watch...
...a kickass 3-techniqe DT could mean to this defense. And they seem to come from anywhere in the draft, just not that often. The Giants keep trying (Alford, Austin, Bromley) but they haven't hit on one yet.
almost every team in the NFL would kill to have a "need" at WR like this
The Giants have Marshall for only two years. We need to start developing a you good big WR.
ArDarius Stewart from Alabama fits that. Raw but possibly the most physically gifted WR in the Draft. Wouldn't mind him in the third.
Not a big fan of Jarrad Davis for us. Ideally Reddick is my draftmance but Cunningham would be nice too. They both have that agility combined with size that looks like it would boost the front seven and give us a scary player in the LB corps outside of Kennard (who really is only scary as a pass rusher). Davis looks like a pure MLB. And I think Goodson might be a really good two down MLB.
Stuff. Many people on bbi have this kid penciled in at MLB
Yet I didn't see much out of this guy and he doesn't seem like a sideline to sideline guy ... Does he play special teams ? Some people act like he's a pro bowler I don't get it did I miss something last year
Nobody might have liked Kelvin Shepard but one thing he was good at was getting everybody in that front seven lined up right which is very important that's what Antonio Pierce was real good at ......
Having said that, I see this D as predicated on heroics on the DL and cover at the corner.
Don't be surprised if you see INTs by our safeties next year.
If I HAD to pick any defensive player early this draft it would to me, clearly, be a DT. That is first in order to get the football near him as a player during each play, and more directly enhances the strength of a unit, the DL, and more fits our NFCE situation.
Just because a 4th rounder doesn't start immediately doesn't mean we forget about him. BBI does this a lot. Last year was like his freshman year in college. This year and next year will tell, but to dismiss him isn't right. We do this with every draft choice, be it Goodson, Adams, Hart, a bunch of DBs, Bromley, etc.
I'm less concerned about MLB for those exact reasons and while I like Hankins, I don't think he'll be that big of a loss on the DL. Snacks JPP Vernon and _______ is an excellent DL. [I actually think Hankins comes back to reality and may even end up back here. no one is paying his ridiculous current demands]
I was thinking an investment into a speedy WLB would make sense to stop the 1 weakness this defense seemingly has had since HDTV has been readily available - covering a #!%@* tight end in man coverage
Of those seven, only four have a reasonable chance of making the final 53. The rest are most likely camp fodder/practice squad players.
So, the Giants will most likely sign a lower-priced free agent (or two), which may not happen until after the draft, but my hope is that they'll address the position in the draft itself. We could at least use a fast, athletic WILL with pass-rush ability, and a versatile kid who can play multiple LB positions as well as special teams.

marshall is a "win now" move for sure - but WR is 1 of the last positions I'm worried about going forward

What I want to happen?
Look for a value as soon as round 1. Names like Reddick/Davis/Foster/McMillan/Beckwith.
It strongly depends on the outlook of BJ Goodson. Is he their future Will? Mike? We can't watch JT Thomas anymore.
Kennard is a rock...nothing great but he can play the SAM role for as long as he wants to stay here. A fresh, aggressive WILL would be nice.

And now you know why I asked you about late-round OLBs a few days ago.

Montravious Adams jumps to mind.
And never say never on a 5-0-6
I like Kennard @ SLB, add an athletic Will and this defense is about as perfect as could be in the salary cap era
next season we may be missing a big piece. Hank. Even if you think Bromley = Hank (not) there are # of reps to consider at very least.
I am hinting at a DL that is as solid as last years but with the added ability to rush the passer from interior gaps - with regularity.
We are SO close to epic greatness on DL...so close...lets go for it!

League-imposed rule or something I figured...
Well I never said he got himself lined up but got everybody else LOL
