What is the general opinion of Derek Barrnett?
I was watching some videos of Cam Robinson. Cam did a good job against Myles Garret but then I watched Cam against Barnett.
Man does Barnett have great quickness. He was constantly beating Cam.
Based upon a small sample he looks like the best edge rusher in the draft.
Even with the signing of JPP Barnett would be a great selection.
You're talking first round (don't know anything about him at this point)?
Taco seems very average to me. Williams has his issues off the field. I am not against Reddick but I feel there are a lot of projections with him so I have my concerns.

But I'd sure love to have him.

Absolutely first round. Top 15 in all likelihood.
DE in the draft is a really tough call for me this year. I don't think the Giants will draft one relatively early unless someone they're really in love with happens to fall to them. They've made huge investments in JPP and Vernon, and I think they're content to continue to develop Okwara and Odighizuwa, and they do have a myriad of other needs, some of which they should be able to address in this draft.
He looks pretty explosive to me. Why do you say he isn't explosive?

Part of our needs is getting to the QB. JPP and Vernon cannot play as many snaps as they did last year and expect them to be healthy all year. I was a fan of Odi and was glad we got him but he hasn't done anything yet and, if I am not mistaken, wasn't even dressed for some games last year. Okwara was a nice surprise but still doesn't provide the pass rush we need.

productive player, but not the explosive athlete the Giants usually look for, especially in the first. I think they'll go elsewhere.

He just isn't. Didn't test well at the combine. He had an illness, sure, but he was one of the slowest in the 40, had one of the lowest vertical and broad jump numbers, and most importantly, if you watch him play, he just doesn't look that explosive. He wins due to work ethic and technique.
Not saying he's a bad player, but he doesn't fit the mold of someone the Giants usually draft in round one.
Yeah I think that's a big asset and his one standout performance was at the 3 cone, which I think is very important for a DE.
Technique is inconsistent at times but I think he'd be a good fit with the Giants playing both DT and DE.
Me neither. But it would kill 2 birds with one stone in terms of keeping our DEs fresh with a rotation and giving us more in the pass rush department. The Giants do seem to want a pass rusher from the LB position when you see their interest in Floyd last year and when they had interest in Scofield.

I liked what I saw. Some feel he never got better but even got worse his last year. Michigan St., I think, played better when he didn't play. People question his toughness. They question his leadership. They think he needs to be surrounded by good leadership to get the most out of him. He was also moved around the DL which is why he had inconsistency issues. That last part was said about Floyd last year and the Giants were still supposedly very high on him.
I cannot speak for the off the field stuff but I do like what I see on video. I think he would make a great 3 tech on the DL. He could also pop out to DE on some sub packages.

I don't think the Giants necessarily have to draft another DE to bolster their pass-rush. Give me an explosive 3-tech DT or a speedy WILL and I think they'll be fine.

Not to mention Cunningham this year.
I was not an advocate of drafting Odi, purely based on his durability, but I hope he can stay healthy and contribute a bit more than he has since he was drafted. With Okwara, let's not forget that he's only 22 years old. He's still got a lot to learn, but he's learning from two of the best, and I think he's got a pretty bright future with the team.

Malik McDowell is a guy that doesn't seem to get a lot of love around here. I've seen him mocked to the Giants but not really discussed. I watched some clips recently and man is he disruptive from the DT and DE spots. Absolutely blows up offensive lineman from time to time. Penetrator type at DT which is what a lot want out of the next guy who plays next to Snacks.

Didn't know anything about the intangible stuff.
Despite that, I think he'd be a good fit. I think with the talent around him and the leadership in place here he could really shine. Coach him up a little and he could be a stud.
I can certainly see the Giants taking a chance on a kid like Chris Wormley, or Tanoh Kpassagnon, or Daehson Hall (to name three), but, again, I think it's more important in this draft to get another DT in the pipeline than it is to find another DE. Even if the Giants re-sign Hankins (which seems doubtful this point), Bromley and Thomas (regardless of what you think of them) are both free agents next year.

He plays great one play and then you don't see him for a series. He is too much of a boom or bust to take in the first round.
My hope is that quarterbacks go early and a Barnett slides to the Giant's at 23.
