I heard this nugget while listening to Dan Graca and Willie Colon (ex Jet Offensive lineman) ESPN NY podcast today. Start from about the 30th minute. They discussed Brandon Marshall and Gino Smith potential signing too. I agree with Colon on Gino. I don't want any part of Gino in Giants' blue.
However, I am all in, on bringing Mangold as a wally-old veteran to play right guard/back-up center and to serve as a mentor to Flowers, Hart, Flucker, Richburg etc. I heard him on Francesa a little while ago say that he is open to playing guard.
Thoughts?

Quality over quantity.
I'm not opposed to anyone who can play.
And really don't understand how the Geno Smith thing affects anyone at all. He has an outside shot of making it through training camp. His career is essentially in the trash can. The locker room is filled with players a lot better than he is. If he's any kind of problem they'll boot him immediately. If he's not, he's a perfectly normal backup QB: One you hope never plays.

Fair enough. I figured you might have been misspelling "wily."
So he would actually be a very risky signing by a team that does not have money to spread around.
I am sure this stupid idea will resurface on BBI.

Did you listen to the podcast? Willie Colon was Mangold'so teammate for years. Players and ex-players often have some inside information that press and public may not have.
Besides, I heard that teams want Mangold to convert to guard. Check Francesa's podcast archives for the Mangold interview.

He also takes up a roster spot which most of you are arguing we should be using quality draft picks on.

You seem like a real treasure. Why you so angry? Things that bad in Newburgh?

Bob, I hear you, but we bring in Vet depth all the time. It's a must..We were apparently willing to bring in 35 year-old Whitworth TO START given we are, IMHO, SB contenders, so why not Mangold? To me, just having a savvy vet in the lockerroom who could provide valuable back-up for Richburg, is, to me, worth the roster spot. If he could actually play OG, that would be a bonus..
If we actually do sign him - Jerry just got starter $ - that means Pugh back to RT. Which isn't a bad thing.
Flowers - Mangold - Richburg - Jerry - Pugh
with a motivated Fluker on a 1-year prove it deal battling for a spot. He may just outplay Jerry.

Three years deal for $10 million, $4.25 million guaranteed is not remotely close to what starting guards got in the 2017 NFL Free Agency market.
Try that tool called GOOGLE.
Love him saying, they can kick me off the team, but they can’t kick me out of NY. I almost want to sign him as OL Coach. I don’t really care how many mediocre OG’s we have. And what the hell did Richburg do last year to makes us feel we have our center for a decade.
On the negative side, it gives me pause, that to my knowledge, no other teams have reached out to him. If we get a Hometown discount, I’d like to have him.
The only linemen the Giants haven't asked to play multiple roles are Kareem McKenzie, Chris Snee, and Shaun O'hara.
The Giants are going to draft at least one OL and probably two. There is no roster spot for Mangold. His best strategy is to wait by the telephone and hope for someone to wind up on IR. Preferably someone on the Cowboys.
And it's pretty simple why: backup OL don't play besides being on the FG team. Nobody's writing a guy a check for $4.25M not to play.
