That is really good work. It's too bad they couldn't get this done sooner. Might've been in play for a more impactful lineman.
I agree it's really good work but disagree about the signing an impactful lineman though.
I don't think Jerry would've ever paid those kind of salaries for the quality of guys that were out there. If there was a younger All Pro type of OT maybe but not for what was out there. Certainly not on a Guard or a good but aging vet.
And someone named Robby didn't like my post. Lol. Nice cap number for 2017
I didn't understand talking about something that was already discussed. All you did was copy what others posted and nothing at that point but if it bothers you then so be it. The thread was more about Hankins than actually discussing his cap number.
For what it's worth, three of the most overpaid free agents
this season, according to a list by ESPN (that's what they do at ESPN - they make lists and give grades) were offensive linemen, including Okung.
It is a rough time in the NFL. There are a lot of not great offensive lineman. I can only think of three teams with great offensive lines. They are Dallas, Oakland, and Tennessee. Dallas took a big hit this year losing Leary and Free. They have Collins but he has been up and down. They could take a big step back. They could still be good but not as dominant as they were. I really like what Tennessee has done.
Someone said an issue with the offensive lines could be the lack of practice time and contact in practice with the new collective bargaining agreement. I think that is true expecially with more and more players switching teams. It is one thing if you have been with your group for awhile and a totally different thing if you are changing up your OL every year.
Still, teams are putting up points and we need to find a way to get it done because this defense is good enough to win a super bowl with.
Yeah, would be nice if they could have added an extra lineman, particularly someone markedly improved over what they have now.
The problem is, there weren't a lot of clear upgrades.
Whitworth would have definitely been an upgrade. He got a multiyear contract worth $13M a year at 35 years old. After that, a bunch of guys who might be a small improvement, and a number of guys who frankly aren't much better than what we have now, all for way too much money.
Same happened last season, when it was basically Osemele and slim pickings behind him.
So the Giants did what they could do, and add a receiving target and a FB. They swapped one replaceable part for another in Newhouse and Fluker, and re-signed Jerry. Now, we hope that with a second year in the system, hopefully some good health between Pugh and Richburg, and some improvement from Hart in his second year starting, that the OL goes from bottom third to middle of the pack. That's all they basically need for the offense to stop misfiring.
Correction. Aaron Rodgers was great at making them look great. Reminds of 3 years ago when people were claiming how much the Seahawks OL improved but it was just really Wilson running around keeping plays alive and refusing to take sacks.
Yes, Rodgers probably helped them out but it works both ways. He scrambled buying more time but the OL has to block longer and that is not always easy to do. They did a great job. Rodgers was also in a funk for almost a full calendar year before he snapped out of it. He isn't God.

You could also say we swapped Cruz for Marshall!
