NFT: State of Massachusetts King / Queen of Div 3 Basketball...

...last night the men's basketball team of Babson College (Wellesely, MA) defeated Augustana College (Ill.), 79-78, to win its first ever NCAA Division III Basketball National Championship.

And the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College (Amherst, MA) saw their women's team finish the season 33 - 0 defeating cross-state NESCAC rival Tufts University(Medford, MA) 52 - 29. The Jumbos of Tufts finished a wonderful season at 30 - 3, but their 3 losses were to Amherst -- in the regular season, the NESCAC Championship and the NCAA Division 3 National Championship game.

The Amherst Head Coach -- G.P. Gromacki -- just finished his 10th season with the team. His Amherst record... a gravity-defying 295 wins against just 24 losses (.925 winning percentage). He has made the NCAA Tournament all 10 years, reaching at least the Sweet 16 every year and securing 2 national championships along the way.

G.P. Gromacki had a lot of success at Saint Lawrence... in six season his teams were 143 - 30.

BTW... after he left the Saints he spent one season with Hamilton College (in the NESCAC). He took a losing program and turned it around in his first (and only season)... 20-7. He then went on to Amherst. Poor Hamilton... I believe that after G.P. Gromacki left, their women's basketball team reverted to its old ways... losing.

This guy is some coach!!!
