So Mike Hopkins is leaving SU to be the HC at Washington. Is this likely a sign that Boeheim won't be stepping down after next season?

I would be excited considering they didnt make NCAAs 6 years straight with Romar. For Washington its a clear upgrade. Hell do well there, Hop is a west coast guy. Might be playing lots of zone defense : ) .

Never know when a guy makes the step up to HC. But I would be optimistic . It's all about recruiting . He knows how to recruit . I want to see how he crafts a program and a game plan on his own. Washington is in a great town that plays good high school hoops. He can resurrect his California ties . Plus he can do some bandit work back East. He's a good guy. All the best .
I wish Hopkins..

the best, but I'm always leery when they hand-pick a successor in waiting.

Especially when the team looked lost when Hopkins took over last year.

Hopefully Hopkins does well in Washington and when Jimmy B steps down, SU will hire a good coach too.
I just want them to keep playing the 2-3

no matter who eventually takes over. At this point, it's basically like a brand for SU basketball.
I think they should mix in

some man every now and then. Teams who are playing really good consistent defense are playing multiple sets.

That said, their personnel this season was not a fit for the typical zone, starting with Gillion. He was a huge liability. As was Thompson.

They've excelled when they recruit to the system. Long, lanky, lengthy, and athletic.
Gillon.

Fucking autocorrect to Gillion? Come on shitpad.

Hop felt Jimmy was never going to cede the throne.

I think this is good for all parties involved. When Jimmy leaves, we will have our pick of NCAA coaches and Jimmy should of course be allowed to coach as long as he wants.
The bigger issue is the

Team next year. Most importantly, the PG position. I could see Howard transferring. And any grad transfers they target will look at White and Gillon as failed experiments. Plus, I hope Lydon doesn't think he's ready for the NBA. He's not close. Needs at least another year. Having Chukwu back will help, Thompson can play the 4 a bit. But they only have three incoming scholarship players with, what, one who could be ready to play? Not good.
Having..

Battle, Thompson and Lydon will give them 3 very strong players to build around, but they'll need a PG. Not sure Howard will be consistent enough, and that's a huge key right now - guard play. Losing White's shooting and Gillon's distribution and scoring is going to be tough to fill.

Howard Washington 6'3" PG class of 2017 out of Canisus High School in Buffalo, NY verbal committed last week. He was a former Butler commit

This is from ESPNs writeup of him when he was a Junior:

"He has played only one year of high school basketball and yet he has a game and maturity level that is well beyond his years. The professionalism with which he goes through drill work is truly unique at his age, overshadowed only by the efficiency in his floor game as he utilizes a well-developed skill set and extremely high basketball IQ without wasting any motion. Simply put he’s the type of guy all coaches are looking for to run their team."

Syracuse's Tyler Lydon will sign with an agent and enter the 2017 NBA Draft, per multiple sources.
