NFT: Need help with selling an item (not on BBI)

tbonfig : 3/19/2017 6:18 pm
Long story short, I have a commercial internal exhaust/air filtration system that I need to sell. Not sure how much the details will help but it is a system that ideally would be used in restaurants/bars to help filter the air. The actual unit is an Everclear CM-11, 120V, 3 speed wall control (hardwired) unit. It is a fully internal system, meaning it does not need to exhaust to the outside.

I tried ebay - no luck.

I posted on Craigslist multiple times - no luck (HVAC/appliances section).

I've called HVAC companies to see if they may have a use for this and no luck.

It is expensive (bought everything for a little under $3K) and has been virtually unused but I'm really striking out here.

Tried reaching out to the company to take it back and they made it extremely onerous and punitive by charging enough fees to only net me around $1K. I'm at the point where if I got half my money back, or a little less, I'd prefer it over returning it to the company and giving them the satisfaction of making more money on this unit (I've had a poor experience with them from the beginning).

Can anyone provide some direction here? Not looking to sell it on BBI, but looking to see where I may not be thinking of....(sorry if this is a repeat post, I honestly can't remember if I inquired already).
Not sure where you're located

But do you have any restaurant supply stores near you? By me there is Restaurant Depot and a couple others. If you have something like that around you maybe try there. If they even buy from the public. But could be worth a shot.
not

If you see any commercial strip centers being built check if any restaurants are moving in and contact them and see if they could use the system before they buy a new one themselves.

Or perhaps contact some smaller regional type of restaurant chains that may be expanding to new locations. I doubt a large national chain would entertain buying used but a small individual owner may jump at the chance to save $1500

See if there are any builders locally that specialize in restaurant build out and let them know you have one available.

Call local architects that work on commercial properties and ask if they know of a avenue you may try. They are they guys who usually spec this sort of equipment in the build out in the first place.

Good luck

Search for an HVAC or Appliance section. I've never dealt there, but bought/sold lots of knives and such (local and international) on Reddit. If you can't find a section to sell then just ask for help like you did here in the HVAC section.

Haha although I got it for the purpose of a cigar room it would likely be perfect for pot growers.

Sell it back to the company and move on with your life.
Is it capable of doing filtration in a woodshop?

Facebook Buy-Sell-Trade groups are pretty popular

these days. Find one in your area and use that. I think you may get more interest there than from Craigslist.

+1 I use the Swip/Swap groups in my area and is the first place I turn to sell an item. Craigslist is the last place as it takes too long. With FB, I can sell items in a matter of minutes (if accepting Paypal and shipping) or a matter of a couple of hours if I'm making arrangements to meet the buyer. With Craigslist, it seems you are lucky if someone stumbles upon your post.
