1 of the top FAs -- #Giants DT Jonathan Hankins -- has tried for weeks to beat NYG's standing offer. Hasn't done it yet. They want an answer
Wonder if it's a 1 year deal so he can reset his market
Saos1n : 3/20/2017 8:55 am : link
Or long term?
SOUNDS Multi year
Joey from GlenCove : 3/20/2017 8:56 am : link
lets say 3 year @ 7.5 per (12 gtd)
good
mphbullet36 : 3/20/2017 8:56 am : link
giants can't sit on there hands, they have given Hankins plenty of time to test the market. Either accept ours or the offer will get pulled.
Interesting

I hope that isn't the case. He is not worth that.
Is this good to release publicly?

He may want to leave now to spite us

Probably phone conversations with terms from teams
interesting that our offer has been out there for weeks
UConn4523 : 3/20/2017 9:04 am : link
with the JPP tag included. It likely means we prioritized JPP + Hank instead of making a push for Whitworth (which I agree with).

Definitely agree that was the right approach.

The alternative plan is Thomas and a draft pick in all likelihood.

I don't believe so... it seems as if he is holding out hope for a deal that would've been offered by now if it was going to... now he's wading around knowing the Giants offer is still there for the taking...

They may be at the point where they leak they are contemplating pulling the offer but instead, 'they want an answer'

Not as big of an asshole move

Over the weekend, we heard that the Giants have a “50-50” chance of keeping the defensive tackle. The Giants’ exact offer to the 25-year-old is not known, but Ralph Vacchiano of SNY says they’re unlikely to offer him anything more than a one-year, $4MM deal because of their cap situation. That would be a crushing blow to Hankins who came into March looking for a deal worth more than $10MM per year. After Dontari Poe settled for a one-year deal with an $8MM base, a lucrative multi-year deal seems unlikely for Hankins, even though he’s younger

pride is probably the last roadblock in accepting a deal. I'm sure he scoffed at their offer, "shopped around", and is slowly realizing his ridiculous demands will not be met

wait it out or return with your tail between your legs? I like Hankins, would be thrilled if he's back, but he really overrated his value and the market seems to agree.

hopefully it's a multi year deal with performance incentives, but a 1 year prove it deal would suffice.
Hope we get him on the cheap!

love to have him back, but he's better off going somewhere else for one year to reestablish his value. He's a 1T, but is more likely to play 3T here because of Snacks.
The $$'s not there for him on the open market like he had hoped.

Say it's a four-year deal, it would be comparable to what Nick Fairley got from the Saints (without knowing the guarantee or the bonus structures, of course).
Thanks, Brandon.

really want him back and compare this to Griffen, Coefield and Joesph. That being said, Hankins is not the player they were. I'm glad (it seems) the Giants aren't bending for him. Don't get me wrong I want him back as well but I don't see it the same way I saw the other DTs they let walk.

Thanks for the information Brandon. Great job. That is a very fair offer, especially considering that no one is offering him anywhere close to that amount.

Shit or get off the pot, we gave you the opportunity to shop our deal, but we can't wait forever.

I just wonder whether there's a fallback plan in FA, whether it's Bromley and co. taking a bigger role, or they hope to draft a DT high.

No time to develop youngsters.

Time to go all in with vets!
if the comparison is Linval Joseph.....
sober297 : 3/20/2017 10:57 am : link
I think Joseph was a better all around player, thus worth more.
Hankins is getting poor advice, IMHO.
$7M per year, if correct, is a strong offer
PatersonPlank : 3/20/2017 11:02 am : link
I agree with keeping the D intact. We spent a lot of money creating a top D, the team will not be stronger by letting it break down. If our offer has really been out there for a few weeks, then I think the Giants have a right to get an answer. No employer wants to give an offer and then wait for weeks while the employee tries to beat it, either he wants to be here or not.

Hankins is every bit the player Cofield and Joseph were here. IF he isn't it's too close to discern any real difference. Will JO never had 7 sacks here in a season with NYG. Neither did Cofield.

All three are/were solid DTs. Not great but plus players. Will Jo peaked with Minny but he's still pretty close to what he was here.
he wants more money and wants a longer deal
Rocky369 : 3/20/2017 11:05 am : link
Doubt he's going to get there anywhere else at this point. Sign the contract, prove your worth more and get paid again next year.
I like Hankins
chuckydee9 : 3/20/2017 11:09 am : link
but he just doesn't fit our needs.. At his current weight and athleticism.. he provides no pass rush.. However for other teams specifically in the NFC East they should be all over this guy.. He can help them neutralize the Cowgirls running game.. Calais Campbell is the type of of DT that we need.. Obviously we were never going to be able to afford him but we need a pressure up the middle while still providing above average run defense..
I really

Think we need another corner. We saw how our secondary struggled when they had to bring wade, etc in. We need one more corner and safety to plug in

I wasn't just speaking in terms of sacks, They all seemed to push the middle alittle more, or perhaps that it just seemed that way because of our DEs. I get what you are saying and perhaps I'm being too nostalgic or something. I was refering to Linval JO, I'm assuming you were as well since Will went to the Radiers.
