apparently he has a right shoulder injury and is flying to Tampa for some tests. He had a preliminary MRI. Something about a hematoma of the subcapsular muscle according to Joe Girardi.
I'm not a fan of the WBC happening at this time of year, although I don't know anything about what caused Didi's injury ... just seems like it's waiting to happen, with players having to ramp it right up without spring training. I have the same worries about Dellin.
Hopefully this is not major with Didi. I suppose a silver lining is that we have a bunch of young SS's to fill in.
Nothing's impossible, but unless he absolutely destroys the minors I don't think we'll see him this season. He's never played a game over High A yet. I know some people will throw Cano's name out there, but he had split his last full year in the minors (at 21) in AA/AAA, and had played a couple of months in AAA at 22 before being called up.
If Gregorius misses time, I'll bet Torreyes fills in.
I just think people are clamoring for Gleyber and that's what all the buzz will be if this is something serious. I trust Cashman to be patient. Obviously it's best for the franchise if Didi is fine and in the opening day lineup.
WAY more likely to fill in with Torreyes than Torres.
But none of them are knocking on the door yet. Wade was the closest and they're trying to make him into a Ben Zobrist-type utilityman (no, I'm not saying he'll hit like Zobrist). Torreyes probably gets first crack, or maybe Ruben Tejada.

What is your theory on how WBC timing could cause such an injury? How much stretching does an MLB SS need before he can really rocket a ball? A full month?

Not sure I have a "theory" and it may have nothing to do with it. Or it might. Just seems like going off to Korea to play serious games in the first week of March could have guys going full out before they're completely ready. But this is more superstition than medicine on my part ... just hate to see it happen.
But this is the second time I can recall a significant injury coming out of the WBC for one of the Yanks players. Tex was never the same player after his wrist was injured. Sorry but the WBC still appears as a forced event for me. MLB wants it, but the teams hate. International fan love it, US fans, meh.

draft tomorrow in a realllllly deep league. How has Chad Green looked this spring? He had phenomenal AAA numbers last year but struggled a bit when he came up. Has he looks impressive at all this spring?
Although he had an outing against the Phillies where his line was OK but had a bunch of loud outs. He was being hit pretty hard even the damage wasn't much.

Plus he is not on the active roster: I doubt the team wants to move him to the active roster until it has to. Still Torres has had a great spring.
can't rush these kids for this year though. I do not like using MLBers and high minors guys in the WBC. It should be for low minors and college prospects.
Looks like this might get Refsnyder on the team this year.

I remember a story Joe Torre told about Cano. Cano looked great in spring training the year he was called up (2005) and someone who saw Robby asked Joe, "Why on Earth they signed Tony Womack if they had this kid?" And Joe responded, "I have no idea." I agree that Torres probably should wet his feet in Trenton before being called up, but we shouldn't discount the possibility that he's simply ready to be a major leaguer right now.
Torres doubled in a pair of runs 20 minutes before I typed this. That's his 6th double of the spring.

Torres the Hitter is Ready.
Torres the Fielder needs some work.
He has never played higher than A ball. Don't rush this gem. Hell they want to get him time at 3rd too.
Looks like a veteran up there, the way he works counts and hits to all fields. I think it's a no-brainer to start him in AA, but he's gonna make a big push this season for at least a September call-up. Hopefully Frazier forces the Yankees' hand even sooner.
The WBC is a forced event, in terms of MLB. The teams re not fond of sending players, especially so early in Spring Training. The US fans are not so fanatic about this tournament. I hope the international and TV dollars are worth it.

Likely opt for Tejada or Torreyes. I'd like to see Wade.
