I'll wait and see what kind of excuse he comes up with, there might be something reasonable - but otherwise, signing up to be there, being paid in advance, letting them promote the event with your name all over it and then no-showing at the last minute is pretty shitty.
sponsored by Big Blue Travel. Buffet, Q+A with players, autograph session, and "MVP" awards to the season's best players - in this case, Collins and Beckham. They were even pictured on the flier for it. If he bailed without a legit reasons, that's a real slap in the face to the fans.

Totally agree. I hoped OBJ had kinda turned the corner after being received so well at the Pro Bowl.
no showed for signings he was paid in advance for before. I remember it happening with a signing here in my local area a couple years ago.
The crazy part is the only people who were supposed to get Beckham autograph and photo opportunity were the ones that paid 600 for the VIP package each. Those people have to feel royally screwed. Wonder if they refunded peoples money

100%. The comments on this lambasting Francessa are off the mark. This is of a kind of classless (and so far explanation less) act that got Geno's jaw broken.
RE: If I'm an athlete in this city, why the hell would I agree to or want
nothing to do with on-field performance. After all this time, I know I shouldn't be.
I'm surprised you say this........it tells a lot about a person.
And there's no doubt that OBJ has already displayed some traits that correspond to exactly this. In other words, it's all about me...........
PS - I'm a big fan.
These people jump, catch, tackle, and run fast for a living. And to be perfectly honest, if they couldn't do those things, none of us would know who they are or care about their personalities or how they conduct themselves otherwise (in a non-criminal sense). I love sports and I love football, but I try to keep some perspective about it and the people who play these games. I don't need people who do these relatively unimportant things to be nice people.
With Beckham. He's known for cancelling last minute on these things.
Kid is special talent but there is now a list of things that just aren't right here. Hopefully it won't spiral out of control.
Hope B Marsh can educate OBJ on how to better conduct himself on and OFF the field. I wouldn't be surprised if OBJ had a similar condition as Marshall (borderline personality disorder).
the field stuff, but that's because those are issues that are mostly blown out of proportion by the media (the net nonsense, ripping his helmet off, etc.).
This is a question of integrity - and it's a slippery slope. Today he's leaving people high and dry on promised appearances, tomorrow he's failing to show up for a practice or rehab.
This isn't some kid who grew up poor and lacked guidance, I'm surprised the people close to him haven't pulled him aside and told him to grow the fuck up already. Or maybe that has happened and he's just a little too full of himself at the moment to listen.
For someone who claims to not care about anything Beckham does with his personal life, you sure seem to care a lot about what Beckham does with his personal life....
unless there was a valid reason he wasn't there. The Giants did a thing last year in the practice bubble back in May or June for the Kids Sports Awards with Nickelodeon. They had a bunch of current and former players there as the kids did a few drills and threw a ball at a target. They had Jennings and Wing were there, and also had Snee, Suebert and Stephen Baker. Odell came late but was there and mingled with the kids and took pictures with them (he was wearing a Rugrats backpack). He took a picture with my 2 sons and seemed to be pretty comfortable and was really engaging with the kids and parents. That would suck if he left fans and the Big Blue Travel organization in a lurch.
I think suggesting he has a serious mental condition is probably the
For someone who claims to not care about anything Beckham does with his personal life, you sure seem to care a lot about what Beckham does with his personal life....
I don't care what he does with his personal low as long as it doesn't interfere with the on field.
jcn's point above about integrity is solid, though. If Beckham is this much of a jerk with something that doesn't matter, could he be with something that does?
For someone who claims to not care about anything Beckham does with his personal life, you sure seem to care a lot about what Beckham does with his personal life....
Arc, to be fair, this is a quasi team function that people paid alot of money for to have access to him for his autograph.
Why does it always seem to be him? Did any other players no show? I'm not sure the answer, just curious.

How about getting all the facts in before proceeding to kill the guy?
with his behavior here then you never will see anything wrong with what he does. Bailing on something you agreed to and (supposedly) were paid to says a lot about him. I keep thinking of that dumbass boat trip before the Packer game. Not that the trip happened but how he played following it. He was a huge reason the Giants lost that day and played perhaps one of his worst games period. Are the two things related?? Maybe not but hard to ignore it when the result was so damn poor.
His judgment is flawed. His need to be the center of attention, even at the detriment of his team is a concern.
What are you trying to get at? One is constantly working at his craft and the other isn't based on randomly juxtaposed instagram videos?
I'm getting at exactly what I said. This should sum up our two receivers. I didn't say it was negative or bad. Two different guys with two different personalities.

I honestly don't give a shit what he does anywhere besides on the football field as long as its not criminal or anything that puts his being on the field in jeopardy.
Fans get sucked into this TMZ-esque obsession with everything athletes do in their spare time.
If he blew this off without having a good reason, shame on him.
It's still near the very bottom of things I care about when it comes to football players.
I don't need Odell Beckham Jr. to be my role model or win man of the year awards. If he keeps doing what he does on the field, that's good enough for me.
This is from Eric's thread about the breakfast. After reading this, you guys don't have an issue with him no-showing this event?
Quote:
Join us for Big Blue Travel's GIANTS wrap-up breakfast - an institution since 1996.
This year we honor offensive MVP Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive MVP Landon Collins, along with many other teammates.
The event will be held on Sunday, March 19 at the Hilton Meadowlands Hotel across the street from MetLife Stadium.
Your morning includes a buffet breakfast, video presentation of the 2016 season, a question and answer session with players hosted by Mike Francesa, and complimentary autographs.
(Note: Odell Beckham Jr. will not be participating in the autograph signing session with the rest of the players. To receive his autograph and picture, you much purchase the VIP package).
and people who take mike francesa at his word sight unseen to be able to further the "Beckham is a bad guy" narrative on the other side.
And somewhere in between, suggestions of multiple personality disorder and showcasing a video of him listening to rap music as illustration of...something.
Now look into who Brandon Marshall was at the same age.
Marshall was probably worse. Marshall is a great example of an NFL'er who matured and I'm excited that he and OBJ are teamed up now. Beckham brings a lot of the negativity on himself and at the same time I think these things are easy to avoid. He will clean it up, I just hope he get's there sooner than later so that we can limit the distractions.
that Beckham pulls this kind of shit. I used to defend Shockey but after years of watching pro sports I have learned that the better the player is off the field the better he usually is on it. Not that BEckham is a reckless maniac off the field or anything but these kind of things do bother me a little bit. These signs indicate a character flaw. Character flaws will impact someone more and more as they age. Hopefully Beckham matures over the next few years.
I defended him all throughout the Josh Norman stuff and will continue to. But screwing fans out of their money at the last minute is kind of shitty. Now, if he has a real excuse, then that's fine. But if he doesn't; that's kind of shitty. Won't change my opinion of him, but screwing people out of their money without a valid excuse (which he may have) is shitty.
Francesa only has the team's franchise QB on every week and just about any other member of the Giants organization he wants on any time from the owner on down.
Yep, he's just mad he can't get Beckham on there.
RE: RE: I'm always surprised when people care about stuff that has literally
nothing to do with on-field performance. After all this time, I know I shouldn't be.
it shows his true character, like maybe he won't show up on the field sometimes also like in Green bay!!!
He's not a machine, so there's a high probability he will have games in which he doesn't perform well. The fact that we've seen Eli Manning shit his pants in big games with absolutely ZERO questions about his "true character" should make people hesitant to draw lines between off-field behavior and on the field production.
pray the Giants trade the guy. That's just ridiculous. But it would be nice to see the most talented NYG draft pick in decades to act like a pro on and off the field. You want to see Beckham get every ounce of talent out of his career.

I hope Marshall provides some sort of mentorship for OBJ, something Cruz had failed to do. Marshall was/is a no 1 star WR for many years.

I'm not calling for the Giants to trade Beckham right now either, but not showing the events is added to a list of negative attention on Beckham and it could lead the Giants to trading him in the future.
if Beckham didn't show up for that event. In fact, I'd actually like it even more if he told Mike he was coming and then didn't. Fuck Mike, he blasts Beckham every other week to listeners all across the country with no accountability so why the fuck should Beckham help him?

It's not a Mike Francesa event. It's a Big Blue Travel Wrap Up Breakfast that they've had for years. Fans pay good money to go that event. Francesa is just the host.

I think some of you guys are in La-La Land.
This is a team who kept a KICKER who had physically and mentally abused his wife on the team until it became publicly untenable for them to do so. They invite a man who was charged with sex with an underage prostitute back to team functions. If you think this stuff is going to make them trade one of the most talented/productive players in sports, you're crazy.
So now I said Beckham cost us the Baltimore game? The game we won?
Your ball washing of Beckham is getting in the way of facts now.
How is asking for more facts before jumping to conclusions ball washing? You certainly did kill Beckham for the penalty in Baltimore, and conveniently forgot to mention the play was essentially a walk off HR.
My overall feeling of this is Beckham is wrong for not showing up to this event UNLESS he has a good reason for skipping it.
I mentioned that the this kind of thing along with boat trip to Miami/dropped passes in the playoff game and his sometimes immature antics on the field could eventually lead him to the Giants trading him.
I didn't say they will or should. I said they could.
Beckham gives a shit what Mike Francesa thinks of him?.
Definitely. He's got very thin skin. This has been demonstrated. A characteristic which is very commonly accompanied by an extreme sensitivity to criticism (hmm..where else are we seeing that presently...?)
Francesca (deservedly) excoriated OBJ after Carolina when he Brian Dawkins'd Norman.
Though, I do get the sentiment here. People paid good money for the VIP package to see him. He deserves criticism if he just disregarded the event, all I'm saying is let's wait to see what the reason is.

I agree, but i'd still like to see what the reason was and whether they get their money back.
Still, whatever this guy does short of being a Eagle Scout results in Eric having to wear riot gear.
One hundred percent of the proceeds of the silent auction
On the other hand, paying that much money to shake some dudes hand and get his autograph is...what's the word...weird and sad? Yeah, kinda weird and sorta sad.
There are no winners here. Just losers. Petulant athlete or creepy collector man-child, losers one and all.

thats the case he should at least notify the organizers or have the Giants do it.
Agree. You can't be the least bit critical of anyone under Giants' contract here, though. It's weird...and creepy. And this coming from someone who defended Beckham all through out the on field stuff, including the Norman stuff (and I will continue to).

Being critical without facts, especially when trying to judge someone's character, is a character flaw. This thread has given us "trade him" and "he needs mental help" all while not knowing anything other than what a disgruntled radio show host says.
If you don't want to do the event don't lend your name to it. Period. If you do then get your act together and be there. Barring a true emergency there is no excuse.
To think the Giants will be better off without this guy, he simply is all about himself and nothing else, and that is a cancer. Go get another wideout in this draft, another next season and fuck this choker.

how is he a choker? because he had a bad game in the playoffs?
on the brighter side, Perkins was a big hit here at the Dick's
were emailed Friday that Odell will not be attending & full refunds are offered
So it was not a last minute no show
LMAO, proof once again that this board's greatest national pastime is jumping to conclusions. I'm sure no one is backing down from their "trade him!" talks, because for some reason, THAT makes them look foolish.

I guess the kids are into it and that's fine to a point. But for adults to get all upset about this kind of stuff strikes me as weird. No offense, but I just don't get it. At all.

Last year, Chris Mullen was at a Mets game, sitting two rows in front of me. There were people (adults and kids) walking up to him and shook his hands and took selfies with him. Another guy who sat behind him took a cellphone picture of the back of his head.

Yeah, great I guess. I just don't get it. They're just people who play a game yet I see grown men clamor for a second or two of their time or an illegible signature. It's weird.

That's me sometimes and its because I find myself as a fan having only the information the media gives me and using that to flame away at a personnel decision or any other scenario seems like a waste of time.
A good chance he wouldnt attend in the first place and they used his name anyway just to sell more tickets in case he did show. Its just so easy to blame it on Beckham.
To think the Giants will be better off without this guy, he simply is all about himself and nothing else, and that is a cancer. Go get another wideout in this draft, another next season and fuck this choker.
I've thought BBI would be better without you for years, yet somehow we manage to tolerate the suffering. You should try doing the same.
Not saying OBJ doesn't need to grow up, he clearly does. And I am not excusing any past behavior or the times when he has literally no showed. But this kind of stuff happens all the time. Happens every day in the corporate and political world. People's schedules change all the time and for a variety of reasons, many of them personal. If in fact OBJ and the Giants informed the organizers of the wrap up breakfast that OBJ would be a no show, that is plenty of lead time.
However, no one can deny this "looks" bad for OBJ. An extremely talented player with a large immature streak. As a fan its incredibly annoying because you see a player who has the world on a string, was an outstanding team mate and organizational rep at the pro-bowl, shakes hands of vets prior to the game, but still exhibits a selfishness mostly seen in teenagers. None of us are perfect and we should all remember that, but OBJ and the people around him need to remember no amount of receptions and TDs will make up for the damage to his image that he can cause off the field.
I think this latest hoopla will blow over. I think Francesa is blowing this out of proportion, especially since he is heavily involved in the event. However, there is no doubt this is a trend with Beckham, no matter whether his absence is justified or explainable. He is under a microscope, and I don't envy him. This is the double edged sword of stardom.
just show up EVERY game and catch the fucking ball. Stop creating a "circus" like atmosphere with your bullshit.
basically, I agree. Stop the circus, and recognize tons of people are just waiting to turn your every move into a circus. Justified or not
The reality is that HE is the one doing this stuff. People are just reacting to it. If you know that the media has their eye on you then you are even more of an idiot for doing those things.
I guess I am just old school. If I had a shot at an NFL career, my focus would have been solely on improving my game knowing that my career will most likely be short and doing so can potentially extend it a bit. I would understand that once I am out of the game in my early to mid 30s I would have the rest of my life to do whatever the fuck I want.

Not a commentary on Beckham in any way, but it's awfully easy to say how you would have acted in your 20s when you're in your 40s or 50s. It's really disingenuous and kinda funny. "Well here's how I would act in this situation, and don't think for a second that my cumulative life experience, which this young man clearly doesn't have, is influencing my statement one bit.

Giants fans were all over Elliot for his actions. You're acting like Giants fans condoned it. But that doesn't fit your ridiculous narrative, so...sheeple! Sheeple EVERYWHERE!

Listen, I agree that some Giants fans on here are huge hypocrites in relation to looking the other way with Giants players most of the time. But comparing what Elliot did to what Beckham did here isn't the same thing at all. What Beckham did, without a legitimate reason, is shitty. But Elliot's actions are worse..
36 hours before an event when it's been planned for a couple months absolutely is a last second no show.
Man, you'd be raking it in as a doctor with that terrible policy. Talk about a reach.
yeah, because a doctors appointment has hundreds of people relying on you to be there after they shelled out hundreds of dollars expecting you to be there. When you put out 600 dollars for a ticket and promise your kid he's going to get to meet Beckham and get an autograph, him cancelling 36 hours before absolutely is last minute.
Comparing it to cancelling a doctors appointment is mind numbing.
doesn't get the benefit of the doubt as far as cancelling for a legitimate reason because he has done this multiple times. So he lost that benefit of the doubt. He's known to blow these things off. It's a bad look for him. I would never pay 5 bucks for an autograph, but I'm also not going to rip on people who will, especially people who are doing so so their kids get to meet the player.
These guys would have zero money playing football if it wasn't for the fans, guys like Beckham should respect that instead of blowing these things off regularly. He doesn't have to do any of this stuff, but if you commit to it and regularly back out, you look like an asshole.

At what point do people have some responsibility here? Maybe the problem is the people are the ones that stick their noses into the lives of 20 year old kids and come away confused and angry that 20 somethings act like 20 somethings. If he puts his life on twitter, that's one thing. It's quite another to decide to care about it.
Maybe it's the people's fault for gobbling up twitter gossip and sports radio and reacting to things irrationally venomously. Sports fans make these guys way more important than they really are, then get shocked that a stranger doesn't meet their idealized impression of them.

Doctors have policies about how far in advance an appointment must be cancelled not to be charged. Do you know what is customary notice for an event like this? I don't but do you?
If you step back and look at the larger picture then things like this and all the other silly crap allows people to form an opinion of him and the type of person he is. Some won't care....others will.
He is not going anywhere with regards to the Giants. They will pick up his option next year. But if the sillyness continues...perhaps he is a guy you let go instead of paying him $50M+ guaranteed.
I've seen him stay late well past what should reasonably be expected
to greet and sign for kids and families, for free, after training camp practices.
But yeah, let's sharpen up those axes and pretend it's all about the kids.
Hopefully more comes out to further blow apart this non story mouthpieced by the king of grudging against sports personalities who don't kiss his ring.
RE: I dont care what the guy does off of the field...
I was at the Breakfast on Sunday
Yea - Beckham cancelled but we got notified a couple of days before the event (Friday night? ) via email which was no big deal for me because it was noted from the start that Beckham would not being part of the autograph session at the end of the show and I was not going to pay the $599.00 for the VIP ticket so I could "meet and greet OBJ and Collins"
Francesa, showed up in the main area walking onto the stage waving at people like he was the Mayor of NY and when it was his time, talked for about 10 minutes off of some written notes about each player that showed up. I no longer have any use for Francesa - thank God for satellite radio
Beckham does have a lot of maturing to do - fast - but he may have a valid excuse for missing the breakfast
Beckham shows up before games and signs for everyone every home Sunday game He does have appreciation for the fan base
Landon Collins left right before they broke up for autographs - he walked - almost ran - straight out of the Hotel We were told he had to catch a flight at the airport
I have been going to these events for 10+ years (they did not have the breakfast for the past 4 years) and they have always been Hectic and the players announced are rarely the players who show up
Those with a preconceived notion of how he should act, and are waiting/hoping/demanding for that to happen, are wasting their time. But if you take it as a certainty that his attitude will derail the team's chances, just remember: plenty of championship teams have had jerks playing major roles in their success.
Ever think something last minute came up in beckhams personal life
And it's definitely a shitty move if he agreed to show up to an event like this (and got paid), but backed out last minute. But he might have a reasonable excuse, let's wait and see. If not, a shitty thing to do, but not on the same level as some of the off-field stuff you see. Beckham's issues at least seem to be more the 'young & dumb' type than the criminal or drug or violence types that really speak to a player's character...but not everyone is going to be Eli to the media.
RE: Ever think something last minute came up in beckhams personal life
Could very well be the case. And even though many of us fans think we have a right to know, we actually don't. We may never know exactly why he canceled and we are not entitled to. Only his employer has a right to know.
I'm in total agreement that OBJ has lost the benefit of the doubt, but lets put this in some perspective and realize we all lack context.

what is this "off field" stuff that he's done in the past, that everyone seems to be mentioning that cost him the benefit of the doubt? Has there been other events where he just said "fuck it, I'm not going."?
At what point do people have some responsibility here? Maybe the problem is the people are the ones that stick their noses into the lives of 20 year old kids and come away confused and angry that 20 somethings act like 20 somethings. If he puts his life on twitter, that's one thing. It's quite another to decide to care about it.
Maybe it's the people's fault for gobbling up twitter gossip and sports radio and reacting to things irrationally venomously. Sports fans make these guys way more important than they really are, then get shocked that a stranger doesn't meet their idealized impression of them.
I understand your point but this is the world we live in right now. He and his mother and agent have to understand that. This is no different than preparing for an opponent on the field. You understand what you are dealing with and you adjust do that you can defeat your opponent. The same with dealing with the public and the media. You just don't give them something to talk about. There are a thousand other guys in the NFL who apparently don't have this problem. So, it is not just because he is a young guy, etc. Why is it that other players are not getting caught up in this stuff? Did someone put a gun to his head to tweet a picture of himself and the rest of the NYG WRs on a yacht in FL with Beiber? No, he did that. Reporters were not following him.
Guy plays his ass off and cares about winning so much it drives him nuts. I wish we had 53 OBJs.

he dances to much we must trade him..
he listens to rap music we must trade him..

RE: unless he had some real problem or family issue if course, but if
This is not a good thing. Not only was he paid in advance, but he was part of a VIP package that fans had to pay extra for just to get his autograph. What do you tell all the people that paid extra for those tickets?

Unless something legit (like an emergency, family issue, etc) then no excuse. He had plenty of time to give cancellation notice nor signed up to be on hand.
Seems like this isn't a first for him in doing something like this. Bad image

other players do things we'd find objectionable, but we don't care what less famous players do. It's only the ones we put on a pedestal that we get upset about. It's not like anyone puts a gun to our heads and forces us to moralize and shake fists. "Don't do anything for us to talk about, because we can't help ourselves and we'll lose our minds and spit venom and judgement at you like you owe us something." Its not a good look.
this isn't a big deal. Add this in to everything else he's been doing...there could be something brewing here that NYG won't want to deal with.
I hope I am wrong...I really do.
yes..and when it comes to re upping his contract..these kind of things along with other things taken in consideration..might give enough to Giants to give second thought..JS
Francesa only has the team's franchise QB on every week and just about any other member of the Giants organization he wants on any time from the owner on down.
Yep, he's just mad he can't get Beckham on there.
Francesa is known to hold a grudge. Didn't he bar Shockey from his show after the tight end canceled a weekly appearance because he had to pick up his mother from the airport?

Yeah, I'm sure when it's time to talk contract, the Giants will say "You've been our best player every year since you were drafted, but you keep canceling your public appearances last minute. So why don't you go and sign with the Cowboys or something?"

Can you provide a quote or a reference to someone referring to Beckham as "lazy"?
Moreover, consider less each individual incident (for which, with the exception of spearing Josh Norman's head, I agree excessive opprobrium is unwarranted) and recognize the overall body of work.
Certainly not time to trade him (unless the offer was bonkers - multiple 1st/2nds) but if you can't admit there are at least some mild warning signs, then we'll never not talk past each other.
Again, please provide reference to someone referring to him as ""lazy".

just look at this thread, there is somrone insinuating he doesnt work hard and ifnit was him he would be working hard at his craft 24/7...

arrested? nope
drug suspension? nope
failed drig tests? nope

He canceled out of this Travel Agency's Breakfast Friday, emails were sent to those who bought the packages & full refunds were offered Friday.
The cancellation & refund offer was on the Travel Agency's site Saturday
And I am most certain that he the appearance fee was rescinded as I'm sure all that is covered on the appearance contract
From what I gathered, the Breakfast was enjoyed by the attendees with the exception of Francesa who was butt hurt & took it personally
I just don't see all the pearl clutching over this, it happens.
And yes I do agree that he has some growing up to do but when I was his age, I did not always make mature decisions.
All he owes me as a fan is his play on the field
And by all accounts he works/practices hard, his teammates like him & he's not a cancer in the locker room
Thanks for posting. Seems that this was Mike being butthurt which was my original thought on the matter. I like Mike for what he is, but man, he will hold a grudge and take it to his deathbed.
so if someone refuses to give him an onterview that lerson becomes public enemy number 1 until that player apologizes to him and grants him an interview...
my guess beckham saw francesa was hosting and decided against going because he didnt want to give francesa the time of day, whoch is petty but i cant blame him...
if a guy is ripping me everday on the radio why am i gng to give him an interview?
is when he says the Giants just let Shockey do his own thing and didn't reign him in and now they are doing the same thing with BEckham. First off, he doesn't know wtf the Giants did or didn't do with Shockey and to sit here and say that Shockey didn't reach his potential based on the way he acted off the field is unfair. Shockey, like most TEs didn't dominate for ten years because he got banged up and took an absolute beating. That's a fact. Could Shockey have dedicated himself more to the game or his craft? Maybe, but from all accounts and visuals Shockey was always in ridiculous shape and condition. Ok he was a hot headed nut but he was never out of shape. And to now proclaim that the Giants are making the same mistakes with Beckham is just horseshit. Mike makes it seem like the Giants are where great talents go to underachieve. This isn't the 2009 Raiders. The Giants foster winning football. The evidence supports that. And really, what can the Giants do with Beckham? Mike is just butt hurt and blasting the Giants because it fits in to his agenda. It's misinformed crap. I like Mike but to take the Giants to task because Bechkham is an emotional diva WR is unfair. And to conjure up Shockey as evidence is even worse. What about all the great emotional players in NYG lore that the Giants nurtured? Should we ignore guys like Jacobs or Strahan or Armstead? Those guys were emotional fireplugs here. Giants did ok there.
or Kerry COllins. Or Christian Peter. The list is practically endless of guys that came to the Giants with a dark cloud hanging over them or some shrouded concerns over them and they didn't nothing but flourish here. Mike can eat a dick. He's wrong on this one. If you're going to blast the org at least weigh the facts.
I do want to see Bechham display maturity just for the sake of posterity. At the very least you want your star players to be as good as possible off the field. It can't hurt. I am not absolving Beckham at all but it's unfair to kill the Giants. They can't control players off the field. They can only foster a stable and mature environment. I hate when Mike goes on these tangents and kills the Giants.
Mike showing he cares while at the table with food
Lol, this has the most posts on an active BBI thread?
Yeah, what the hell is a wrap up breakfast anyway? The name alone sounds lame enough to not want to attend. Don't tell anyone I tried to win free tickets on here. Francesa doesn't like him? Oh boy, my opinion is totally changed.
Scrambled eggs on a wrap?

Totally agree. I hoped OBJ had kinda turned the corner after being received so well at the Pro Bowl.
But let's wait for a response.
Francesa would never miss a breakfast
The crazy part is the only people who were supposed to get Beckham autograph and photo opportunity were the ones that paid 600 for the VIP package each. Those people have to feel royally screwed. Wonder if they refunded peoples money
Well if you've already accepted payment, you should probably hold up your end and show up. Otherwise it would most likely be a non issue.

Oh they'd have to..............otherwise get ready for lawyers.......
You don't think people should care that he basically screwed people out of a lot of money? It's wrong. He should be better than that.
I'm surprised you say this........it tells a lot about a person.
And there's no doubt that OBJ has already displayed some traits that correspond to exactly this. In other words, it's all about me...........
PS - I'm a big fan.

Makes sense. Trade your best player for being an eccentric.
Kid is special talent but there is now a list of things that just aren't right here. Hopefully it won't spiral out of control.

It seems that maybe the glory level is expanding at such a rapid rate and the maturity level is struggling to keep up.
And people STILL cheer for him when he runs through that tunnel despite numerous serious reasons not to.

How about getting all the facts in before proceeding to kill the guy?
His judgment is flawed. His need to be the center of attention, even at the detriment of his team is a concern.

Exactly. This guy is Jeremy Shockey all over again.
And somewhere in between, suggestions of multiple personality disorder and showcasing a video of him listening to rap music as illustration of...something.

Let's start with a full 1 game suspension and work down from there to the various 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalties he's taken.
it shows his true character, like maybe he won't show up on the field sometimes also like in Green bay!!!
If so, that's just more me me me. What other drivers? What a fucking clown.
He hosted the event. He probably witnessed the red-faced reaction of whoever is in charge of this function as Beckham no-showed.

The "but" doesn't outweigh the great.
We had guys on this team in recent years lose multiple games to drug and PED suspensions.

Car was definitely moving. My hope was that he was overseas and the passenger in the car. I think he was in Europe touring with Drake last week.

He's not a machine, so there's a high probability he will have games in which he doesn't perform well. The fact that we've seen Eli Manning shit his pants in big games with absolutely ZERO questions about his "true character" should make people hesitant to draw lines between off-field behavior and on the field production.
Quote:
doesn't know what he's talking about?
He hosted the event. He probably witnessed the red-faced reaction of whoever is in charge of this function as Beckham no-showed.
you realize francesa hates beckham because beckham wont go on his show?
It still doesn't excuse Beckham for not going to the event, unless he has a good reason for it.

Beckham:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BRyssvYjidC/?taken-by=obj&hl=en
Now look into who Brandon Marshall was at the same age.
Marshall was probably worse. Marshall is a great example of an NFL'er who matured and I'm excited that he and OBJ are teamed up now. Beckham brings a lot of the negativity on himself and at the same time I think these things are easy to avoid. He will clean it up, I just hope he get's there sooner than later so that we can limit the distractions.

But he has done plenty to hurt this team ON the field in the last 2 years. Plenty.
Let's start with a full 1 game suspension and work down from there to the various 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalties he's taken.
The "but" doesn't outweigh the great.
We had guys on this team in recent years lose multiple games to drug and PED suspensions.
Pretty sure this is the guy who said OBJ cost us the game in Baltimore.
Quote:
but in that instagram video posted at 1:57, is that car in motion while he's jamming out to Murda Beatz with his eyes no where near the road?
If so, that's just more me me me. What other drivers? What a fucking clown.
Car was definitely moving. My hope was that he was overseas and the passenger in the car. I think he was in Europe touring with Drake last week.
He's not driving the car.

Not me.
Your ball washing of Beckham is getting in the way of facts now.
It's not a Mike Francesa event. It's a Big Blue Travel Wrap Up Breakfast that they've had for years. Fans pay good money to go that event. Francesa is just the host.
He's not helping Mike. It's a Giants thing, not a Mike thing. He's just the host.
I'm not calling for the Giants to trade Beckham right now either, but not showing the events is added to a list of negative attention on Beckham and it could lead the Giants to trading him in the future.
Your ball washing of Beckham is getting in the way of facts now.
How is asking for more facts before jumping to conclusions ball washing? You certainly did kill Beckham for the penalty in Baltimore, and conveniently forgot to mention the play was essentially a walk off HR.
The only who is crying is you. We're just discussing this, but you seem to be the one who is all bent out of shape of any criticism of Beckham.
So weird.
I hope I am wrong...I really do.
according to the flyer fans had to pay for a vip package and it sounds like they would get their aitograph in the mail..
sounds like the only thing he skipped the was the q and a with francesa..
Ryan,
My overall feeling of this is Beckham is wrong for not showing up to this event UNLESS he has a good reason for skipping it.
I mentioned that the this kind of thing along with boat trip to Miami/dropped passes in the playoff game and his sometimes immature antics on the field could eventually lead him to the Giants trading him.
I didn't say they will or should. I said they could.
So weird.

There are no winners here. Just losers. Petulant athlete or creepy collector man-child, losers one and all.
they probably did, you really think francesa is going to tell the reason? he just wants to kill beckham every chance he can get
Agree. You can't be the least bit critical of anyone under Giants' contract here, though. It's weird...and creepy. And this coming from someone who defended Beckham all through out the on field stuff, including the Norman stuff (and I will continue to).
a caller said you have to give beckham credit for playing hurt, francesa responded saying he was not hurt
I hope I am wrong...I really do.
I hope you're right.
Subjectively I hope he has a huge year in 2017 and Reese has the good sense to make a Herschel Walker trade to set up the post-Eli era.
a caller said you have to give beckham credit for playing hurt, francesa responded saying he was not hurt
He's done this numerous times, no showing for things he got paid to do already. This has nothing to do with Francesa, he deserves to be ripped for it.

Last year, Chris Mullen was at a Mets game, sitting two rows in front of me. There were people (adults and kids) walking up to him and shook his hands and took selfies with him. Another guy who sat behind him took a cellphone picture of the back of his head.

Gen X er vs millenial.
Brandon Marshall in NOT gen-X, not even close.
I've thought BBI would be better without you for years, yet somehow we manage to tolerate the suffering. You should try doing the same.

I reached the conclusion that Beckham is a jerk a long time ago.
Consistently excusing lousy behavior on and off the field isn't grace either.
Wouldn't Big Blue Travel have to refund, since they run the event? Not sure the Giants org is involved here.

Odell Beckham Jr. is immature and has repeatedly behaved in ways that undermine his employer's PR effort and damage his own brand.

Listen, I agree that some Giants fans on here are huge hypocrites in relation to looking the other way with Giants players most of the time. yeah, because a doctors appointment has hundreds of people relying on you to be there after they shelled out hundreds of dollars expecting you to be there. When you put out 600 dollars for a ticket and promise your kid he's going to get to meet Beckham and get an autograph, him cancelling 36 hours before absolutely is last minute.
Comparing it to cancelling a doctors appointment is mind numbing.
These guys would have zero money playing football if it wasn't for the fans, guys like Beckham should respect that instead of blowing these things off regularly. He doesn't have to do any of this stuff, but if you commit to it and regularly back out, you look like an asshole.

Doctors have policies about how far in advance an appointment must be cancelled not to be charged. Do you know what is customary notice for an event like this? I don't but do you?
He is not going anywhere with regards to the Giants. They will pick up his option next year. But if the sillyness continues...perhaps he is a guy you let go instead of paying him $50M+ guaranteed.

I have been going to these events for 10+ years (they did not have the breakfast for the past 4 years) and they have always been Hectic and the players announced are rarely the players who show up
Could very well be the case.

Didn't he bar Shockey from his show after the tight end canceled a weekly appearance because he had to pick up his mother from the airport?

this isn't a big deal. Add this in to everything else he's been doing...there could be something brewing here that NYG won't want to deal with.

Yeah, I'm sure when it's time to talk contract, the Giants will say "You've been our best player every year since you were drafted, but you keep canceling your public appearances last minute. So why don't you go and sign with the Cowboys or something?"
Why fulfill a commitment with fans when you could be hanging with celebs??

Remember I'm sure they take everything in "as a whole"..js.. you and seem not understanding in my post..
Beckham is an ass for pulling a now show

Guy plays his ass off and cares about winning so much it drives him nuts. I wish we had 53 OBJs.
but he punched a hole in a wall, we mist trade him...
he dances to much we must trade him..
he listens to rap music we must trade him..
his hair is blonde we must trade him...
he is making money from endorsements and being on tv and going to clubs, we must trade him...
he was on a boat in miami, we must trade him...
teammates say he is the hardest worker on the team, bbi says it cant be true because he is a cancer who is lazy and only cares about himself and nobody else

Pauln said he doesnt work hard and is more worried about public persona..
and i agree the norman thing was a big black cloud that he still has not gotten over yet, but what has he done off the field that has been so bad?
arrested? nope
drug suspension? nope
failed drig tests? nope
if his worst thing is going to miami on his off day then i think most of it you can get over...
also everything he does is magnified, no matter what he does it is spun in the wrong direction..
at the pro bowl evwryone said how great he was with fans and the media, yet new yoek talking heads said who cares he did it for the cameras and it means nothing

OBJ is a diva the Giants should trade.
Makes sense. Trade your best player for being an eccentric.
It's "eccentric" to fuck people over?
OK.

fuck people over? fans were told 2 days in advance and they gotva full refund if they purchased the vip package...
someone who was there said landon collins badically ran out of the place after a couple of autographs...

I like Mike for what he is, but man, he will hold a grudge and take it to his deathbed.
my guess beckham saw francesa was hosting and decided against going because he didnt want to give francesa the time of day, whoch is petty but i cant blame him...
if a guy is ripping me everday on the radio why am i gng to give him an interview?
Fans can over react to a player cancelling an appointment without knowing the reason why.
Yeah, what the hell is a wrap up breakfast anyway? The name alone sounds lame enough to not want to attend. Don't tell anyone I tried to win free tickets on here. Francesa doesn't like him? Oh boy, my opinion is totally changed.
