To think the Giants will be better off without this guy, he simply is all about himself and nothing else, and that is a cancer. Go get another wideout in this draft, another next season and fuck this choker.
I've thought BBI would be better without you for years, yet somehow we manage to tolerate the suffering. You should try doing the same.
Not saying OBJ doesn't need to grow up, he clearly does. And I am not excusing any past behavior or the times when he has literally no showed. But this kind of stuff happens all the time. Happens every day in the corporate and political world. People's schedules change all the time and for a variety of reasons, many of them personal. If in fact OBJ and the Giants informed the organizers of the wrap up breakfast that OBJ would be a no show, that is plenty of lead time.
However, no one can deny this "looks" bad for OBJ. An extremely talented player with a large immature streak. As a fan its incredibly annoying because you see a player who has the world on a string, was an outstanding team mate and organizational rep at the pro-bowl, shakes hands of vets prior to the game, but still exhibits a selfishness mostly seen in teenagers. None of us are perfect and we should all remember that, but OBJ and the people around him need to remember no amount of receptions and TDs will make up for the damage to his image that he can cause off the field.
I think this latest hoopla will blow over. I think Francesa is blowing this out of proportion, especially since he is heavily involved in the event. However, there is no doubt this is a trend with Beckham, no matter whether his absence is justified or explainable. He is under a microscope, and I don't envy him. This is the double edged sword of stardom.
just show up EVERY game and catch the fucking ball. Stop creating a "circus" like atmosphere with your bullshit.
basically, I agree. Stop the circus, and recognize tons of people are just waiting to turn your every move into a circus. Justified or not
The reality is that HE is the one doing this stuff. People are just reacting to it. If you know that the media has their eye on you then you are even more of an idiot for doing those things.
I guess I am just old school. If I had a shot at an NFL career, my focus would have been solely on improving my game knowing that my career will most likely be short and doing so can potentially extend it a bit. I would understand that once I am out of the game in my early to mid 30s I would have the rest of my life to do whatever the fuck I want.

Not a commentary on Beckham in any way, but it's awfully easy to say how you would have acted in your 20s when you're in your 40s or 50s. It's really disingenuous and kinda funny. Giants fans were all over Elliot for his actions. You're acting like Giants fans condoned it. But that doesn't fit your ridiculous narrative, so...sheeple! Sheeple EVERYWHERE!

Listen, I agree that some Giants fans on here are huge hypocrites in relation to looking the other way with Giants players most of the time. But comparing what Elliot did to what Beckham did here isn't the same thing at all. What Beckham did, without a legitimate reason, is shitty. But Elliot's actions are worse..
36 hours before an event when it's been planned for a couple months absolutely is a last second no show.
Man, you'd be raking it in as a doctor with that terrible policy. Talk about a reach.
yeah, because a doctors appointment has hundreds of people relying on you to be there after they shelled out hundreds of dollars expecting you to be there. When you put out 600 dollars for a ticket and promise your kid he's going to get to meet Beckham and get an autograph, him cancelling 36 hours before absolutely is last minute.
Comparing it to cancelling a doctors appointment is mind numbing.
doesn't get the benefit of the doubt as far as cancelling for a legitimate reason because he has done this multiple times. So he lost that benefit of the doubt. He's known to blow these things off. It's a bad look for him. I would never pay 5 bucks for an autograph, but I'm also not going to rip on people who will, especially people who are doing so so their kids get to meet the player.
These guys would have zero money playing football if it wasn't for the fans, guys like Beckham should respect that instead of blowing these things off regularly. He doesn't have to do any of this stuff, but if you commit to it and regularly back out, you look like an asshole.

At what point do people have some responsibility here? Maybe the problem is the people are the ones that stick their noses into the lives of 20 year old kids and come away confused and angry that 20 somethings act like 20 somethings. If he puts his life on twitter, that's one thing. It's quite another to decide to care about it.
Maybe it's the people's fault for gobbling up twitter gossip and sports radio and reacting to things irrationally venomously. Sports fans make these guys way more important than they really are, then get shocked that a stranger doesn't meet their idealized impression of them.

Doctors have policies about how far in advance an appointment must be cancelled not to be charged. Do you know what is customary notice for an event like this? I don't but do you?
If you step back and look at the larger picture then things like this and all the other silly crap allows people to form an opinion of him and the type of person he is. Some won't care....others will.
He is not going anywhere with regards to the Giants. They will pick up his option next year. But if the sillyness continues...perhaps he is a guy you let go instead of paying him $50M+ guaranteed.
I've seen him stay late well past what should reasonably be expected
to greet and sign for kids and families, for free, after training camp practices.
But yeah, let's sharpen up those axes and pretend it's all about the kids.
Hopefully more comes out to further blow apart this non story mouthpieced by the king of grudging against sports personalities who don't kiss his ring.
RE: I dont care what the guy does off of the field...
I was at the Breakfast on Sunday
Yea - Beckham cancelled but we got notified a couple of days before the event (Friday night? ) via email which was no big deal for me because it was noted from the start that Beckham would not being part of the autograph session at the end of the show and I was not going to pay the $599.00 for the VIP ticket so I could "meet and greet OBJ and Collins"
Francesa, showed up in the main area walking onto the stage waving at people like he was the Mayor of NY and when it was his time, talked for about 10 minutes off of some written notes about each player that showed up. I no longer have any use for Francesa - thank God for satellite radio
Beckham does have a lot of maturing to do - fast - but he may have a valid excuse for missing the breakfast
Beckham shows up before games and signs for everyone every home Sunday game He does have appreciation for the fan base
Landon Collins left right before they broke up for autographs - he walked - almost ran - straight out of the Hotel We were told he had to catch a flight at the airport
I have been going to these events for 10+ years (they did not have the breakfast for the past 4 years) and they have always been Hectic and the players announced are rarely the players who show up
Those with a preconceived notion of how he should act, and are waiting/hoping/demanding for that to happen, are wasting their time. But if you take it as a certainty that his attitude will derail the team's chances, just remember: plenty of championship teams have had jerks playing major roles in their success.
Ever think something last minute came up in beckhams personal life
And it's definitely a shitty move if he agreed to show up to an event like this (and got paid), but backed out last minute. But he might have a reasonable excuse, let's wait and see. If not, a shitty thing to do, but not on the same level as some of the off-field stuff you see. Beckham's issues at least seem to be more the 'young & dumb' type than the criminal or drug or violence types that really speak to a player's character...but not everyone is going to be Eli to the media.
RE: Ever think something last minute came up in beckhams personal life
Could very well be the case. And even though many of us fans think we have a right to know, we actually don't. We may never know exactly why he canceled and we are not entitled to. Only his employer has a right to know.
I'm in total agreement that OBJ has lost the benefit of the doubt, but lets put this in some perspective and realize we all lack context.

I reached the conclusion that Beckham is a jerk a long time ago.
Consistently excusing lousy behavior on and off the field isn't grace either.
Wouldn't Big Blue Travel have to refund, since they run the event? Not sure the Giants org is involved here.

Fans can over react to a player cancelling an appointment without knowing the reason why.

It can be both. They aren't mutually exclusive. If you don't want to go, you can let the Giants know a decent amount of time in advance.
But I forgot with BBI. Certain Giants employees never make a mistake.
