side note, if you like Chappelle you will probably like Jarrod Carmichael who just had his HBO special released last week. Its awesome. He's also dressed similarly to Chappelle from "Killing Them Softly" which makes me think it was a tribute.
Chappelle but he comes off as a bit of a tool here Link - ( New Window )
Maybe, but I think he's right. When Key & Peele did their sketches they felt like direct rip-offs from DC but nowhere near as good. DC is pissed he was hamstrung by Comedy Central (yes I know he made a fortune) so I can see where the creative frustration lies.

You don't think this quote comes off as prickish?
“So like the first episode, I do that black white supremacist sketch. And it’s like, ‘Well, that’s 10 minutes long. It should be five minutes long.’ Why should it be five minutes long? Like, these types of conventions. I fought very hard. … So when I watch Key & Peele and I see they’re doing a format that I created, and at the end of the show, it says, ‘Created by Key & Peele,’ that hurts my feelings.”
He expects it to say something other than created by Key & Peele?

I think you are taking the quote very literally. I suspect Chappelle simply scoffed when he saw that it was a K&P production and it reminded him of not having full creative control at Comedy Central. Sure, he comes off like a dick and maybe he is, but he also has a point.

You'd have a valid point except, this isn't the first time he's said something about K&P. He's said this multiple times before that interview with EW.
It's nothing but bitterness, plain and simple.
I'm not up to date on it so you are probably right Â
I was just speaking to that article and while he does come off poorly I do get it. Part of the reason he went nuts is because of the fame but also the stressful relationship with Comedy Central. Again, not excusing him, but I do understand it.
among the most overrated shows in modern history. Key & Peele is far better done and more original. Bad look from Dave in that quote.
But his stand up is legendarily awesome. Killing them Softly is in the conversation with Delirious/Carlin/Rock/Pryor as the best stand up special ever.
That's on balance a compliment. Stand up is much, much harder than sketch comedy, esp that which is not live.
Looking forward to these latest specials which I'll throw on this week.
You can tell he is sort of knocking the ring rust off, but man the guy can tell a story and get an audience to buy into anything. He is hilarious still.
he's definitely getting his groove back. Him talking about getting pulled over with his friend but feeling okay because he's Dave Chappelle is a nice juxtaposition from his earlier routines about getting pulled over and feeling terrified but it was okay because of his white friend, Chip.

It makes me a little sad, since Dave is usually such a reflective, self-aware guy. He should be happy for their sucess. I could see being upset with Comedy Central for limiting him in ways that maybe they didn't limit K/P.

He chose to walk away, and he's bitter that someone stepped up and filled his spot. That's life Dave.
