If Vereen doesn't make it out of Training Camp\Pre-season healthy, I can see Draughn filling that void. He's not explosive as Vereen but he's a very solid receiving RB whose also good at blitz pickup.
Yep Just read a story on a 49ers page that said he was misused by Kelly as a between the tackles back & he prospered once Kelly was gone as a 3rd down back out of the backfield catching passes! So, he's certainly not the big back we need! (5-11 205)
The only defensive starter in question is Hankins, who may very well be back. In the offense, Marshall replaces Cruz and there may be a change on the right side of the ol. Also we added a blocking te who doubles as a fullback.
RE: It looks like we're going to field a team very similar to last season.

There's still the draft - if they decide to add some pieces on offense, could be a decidedly different unit even with only a couple of contributors.
He's a camp body. He's nowhere near Vereen as a player. He's a JAG 3rd 4th RB type that might give the Giants insurance against a Vereen injury. If the Giants plan on replacing Vereen with Draughn then had better draft a RB wthin the first 3 rounds as well.
they signed somebody that doesn't have a name that I recognize! Reese is so dumb! Why didn't he get somebody I know, like Adrian Peterson or Dan Marino!"
Not a lot of miles on him. He's been playing behind the likes of Jamal Charles and Carlos Hyde.. He's a tough runner.. Can cut back and get YAC... But your YPC is going to be organically low when you're running on the goal line and 3rd and 1 all the time. This guy will surprise a lot of you.
RE: Sure handed... Good in short yardage... Plays specials...

Good call about relying on YPC to determine value. Circumstances need to be accounted for. The one year where Hyde was dinged and he got some decent playing time, he was a good contributor.

Thompson at safety could be a big addition. Young players like Perkins and Apple who will have key roles are a year older.

More like a Bobby Rainey replacement if you asked me.

Well what do you want them to do put 15 new starters on the team and hope they jell Giants have some good chemistry going on they will probably draft a RB high !

New Giants running back. ... On his 7th team in 7 years. Played all 16 w/San Fran last year. Bit of a dual-threat, too. ...
And he's signin' Shaun Draughn

Dual-threat? I'm not sure he qualifies as a single threat.

At least he's seen a lot of playbooks.

dual threat: ride the bench or be cut :-)
You owe Reuben Droughns an apology.
Are you thinking about Reuben Droughns?? Not sure other than the name what the similarities are.

Yeah, that guy. Maybe it was the name.

Hopefully he has a complete career turnaround and prospers with the Giants, becoming an important role player on a rejuvenated offence.
But realistically, he probably doesn't even make the roster.

You need depth in the NFL probably more than any other sport.
We're not going to feature this guy as an every down back but signing him makes sense.
He doesn't fumble(unlike Rainey). 2 lost in 230 touches.
He has a feel for goal line and short yardage. Finds the first down marker and endzone.
He's a better overall football player than Darkwa or Rainey imo. Decent chance he sticks on the roster depending on what we do in the draft etc.

LOL!!
Christian Michael and Khiry Robinson to name a few. Luckily draft is still ahead.
