but Shaun is better than Rainey. I'll take that from the 4th RB. I'm nearly certain he's a decent STer as well.
Vereen's backup?
Doomster : 3/21/2017 1:01 pm : link
You mean like Wynn is JPP's backup?
Unless they plan on cutting Vereen

Doesn't make much sense.

He's a camp body. He's nowhere near Vereen as a player. He's a JAG 3rd 4th RB type that might give the Giants insurance against a Vereen injury. If the Giants plan on replacing Vereen with Draughn then had better draft a RB wthin the first 3 rounds as well.

they signed somebody that doesn't have a name that I recognize! Reese is so dumb! Why didn't he get somebody I know, like Adrian Peterson or Dan Marino!"

alright. 49ers and the other 6 previous teams were trash. Better environment for him may help.
I was thinking it must be for a one day contract to retire a Giant

Reuben Droughns
Link - ( New Window )
Sure handed... Good in short yardage... Plays specials...
Slade : 3/21/2017 1:16 pm : link
Not a lot of miles on him. He's been playing behind the likes of Jamal Charles and Carlos Hyde.. He's a tough runner.. Can cut back and get YAC... But your YPC is going to be organically low when you're running on the goal line and 3rd and 1 all the time. This guy will surprise a lot of you.

Good call about relying on YPC to determine value. Circumstances need to be accounted for. The one year where Hyde was dinged and he got some decent playing time, he was a good contributor.

The only defensive starter in question is Hankins, who may very well be back. In the offense, Marshall replaces Cruz and there may be a change on the right side of the ol. Also we added a blocking te who doubles as a fullback.

Thompson at safety could be a big addition. Young players like Perkins and Apple who will have key roles are a year older.
How does this not make sense?
Keith : 3/21/2017 1:29 pm : link
He's a backup to Vereen our 3rd down back. He took Rainey's spot on the roster who only had a role because Vereen was hurt.

I don't understand why people on this board get all up in arms over every signing that isn't a bonafide starter.

You need depth in the NFL probably more than any other sport.

We're not going to feature this guy as an every down back but signing him makes sense.
It's simple..
Keith : 3/21/2017 1:37 pm : link
most guys want AP or Blount because they are popular names and when they see this signing they compare Draughn to Blount or AP which is dumb.
I like the signing without doing cartwheels
Torrag : 3/21/2017 1:40 pm : link
He's a good pass protector(unlike Rainey) who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

He doesn't fumble(unlike Rainey). 2 lost in 230 touches.

He has a feel for goal line and short yardage. Finds the first down marker and endzone.

He's a better overall football player than Darkwa or Rainey imo. Decent chance he sticks on the roster depending on what we do in the draft etc.
Giants apparently felt the need ...
BronxBob : 3/21/2017 1:54 pm : link
... to provide BBI with a guy whose name ends in "hn" to beat the crap out of.
Can he pass block for Eli? If he can, I'm ok with it.

If Vereen doesn't make it out of Training Camp\Pre-season healthy, I can see Draughn filling that void. He's not explosive as Vereen but he's a very solid receiving RB whose also good at blitz pickup.

More like a Bobby Rainey replacement if you asked me.
A reserve that can play special teams

The Giants got a little better at the bottom end of the roster.
7th team in 7 years?

Lots of other guys out there with more upside:

Christian Michael and Khiry Robinson to name a few. Luckily draft is still ahead.
everyone loves Christine Michael for about a week

and then he forgets to block or do what he's told.

There's still the draft - if they decide to add some pieces on offense, could

be a decidedly different unit even with only a couple of contributors.

Well what do you want them to do put 15 new starters on the team and hope they jell Giants have some good chemistry going on they will probably draft a RB high !
