Any insider views on Ben Boulware?
He's undersized at 6.0, 235 and I can't stand Clemson ... but this guy always seems to play like a beast, with good old fashioned passion and heart. What round would you take a shot ?
is where I'd take a shot. We took BJ Goodson in the 4th last year who should take over Sheppard's job as our 2 down thumper. Boulware was a good college player but doesn't bring anything to the table that we don't already had. Liked Matekevich from Temple last year better.
but not by the Giants. They now have Robinson, Casillas, and Kennard as starters, Goodson, Herzlich, and if you count Ishaq Williams as a linebacker, that's 6 guys. They could draft one and a linebacker (likely Williams) would be on the roster bubble barring injury, but if they do, it will likely be a linebacker with more coverage skills/movement ability, not a guy like Boulware.
I'm not sold on Goodson ... hopefully they have another MLB on the radar.
He's much better than Boulware. Not sure what you aren't sold on about him. He's coming off a rookie year that was basically a redshirt year for him. His leadership, work ethic, football smarts & instincts, tackling ability... all are very, very good. He'll be a great pro MLB for a long time. If you go back and watch his games with Clemson you will come away very impressed. And he's more athletic than some suggest here... he's not just a gap-filler.
When he gets his shot, he will hold on to that MLB spot for a long time.

And I forgot JT Thomas. We'll see what happens with him... not convinced he'll still be on the team, but he could be.

You haven't even seen Goodson enough to be sold or not on him yet
Yes, but his not getting on the field is possibly somewhat telling, given that he didn't exactly have Harry Carson and Mike Singletary playing ahead of him.
To me, the jury is still out. But I think his chances of being ordinary far exceed his chances of being the starting MLB "for a long time"--as one poster put it above.

I don't know about that from some of the tape I saw of Goodson he doesn't seem to move to good side to side yet people have him penciled in !

Yeah, I did because I studied him a lot prior to last year's draft and was ecstatic the Giants drafted him. If you haven't done that kind of homework, you're just basing an opinion on... your feelings. And Keenan Robinson is a good player and a veteran. It makes a lot of sense a rookie coming in isn't going to be asked to lead the defense over a veteran guy.
You'll see in time. Goodson will likely be a team captain one day, he's that kind of guy.

DeOssie ran a 4.65 the year he was drafted. Boulware runs a 4.9 according to Rob Rang. Don't think he'd be first down the field on punt coverage.

I'd much rather use an early pick on Jarrad Davis. That dude is gonna be a stud.
