I understand the "draft the best player available" mentality, i do not exactly disagree with it but for the purpose of this lets throw that out the window for the moment and focus on drafting for need.
the giants have 7 picks in the upcoming draft. What position would you ideally draft in each round.
Heres how i would attack it and why
RD1 - OT - The line needs improvement
RD2 - TE - Need to attack the seems
RD3 - RB - no clear cut starter on the roster
RD4 - CB - Injury Insurance, learn behind vets
RD5 - OL - The line needs improvement
RD6 - WR - im not sold on King yet and i think Lewis sucks
RD7 - OL - The line needs improvement
Reddick/Cunningham
Engram/Everett
Douglas/Lewis
Davenport
Conner/Williams
Pumphrey/Reynolds
Wise Jr.

David Njoku TE
Dalvin Tomlinson DT. If Hankins doesn't sign
Donta Foreman RB
Carrol Phillips. Edge/OLB
Jalen Mytnick or Shaq Griffin CB
Isaac Asiata RG
KD Cannon WR
If an OT reach us at 23.....I suspect he is not viewed as a plug and play LT.
The talent is TE, Lber, DL, RB, QB and corner.
Wr,Dl/Cb,K
Only Round id consider a qb is if some how watson was available in round 1 for us
The key obviously is the grading system. If you have similar grades on players and player A fits a need but player B doesnt.. then you go with player A...
However in a similar situation if player B carries a MUCH higher grade then player A even if it fills a position of need you have to strongly consider player B...
Obliviously every team tries to fill the holes on its roster.. However you cant simply draft just to fill the holes.. Its always a combination of both..

I could see alternatives in 1 leading to drafts like this which I would be behind 100%. I like this one.
Njoku being available in the first changes things. As does whether Hankins signs with us or not. I'm assuming we sign either Hanks or another vet DT.
I could see a Njoku/Dawkins/Watkins/Leggett alteration to my first four.
Against all BBI opinion I would grab Watkins in rd 1, an OT in 2, and Leggit in 3 (if he lasts that long).
I think our defense will be solid.
2. Tight end (who can both block and receive)
3. Offensive guard, right
4. Defensive tackle
5. Middle linebacker
6. Running back
7. Cornerback, future
At the moment Hankins is not on the team, and so I consider a starting DT as a need.
Just playing the game here. I would use this as a backup plan to the best player available approach, especially in round 1.
3) BPA
4) BPA
5) BPA
6) BPA
and...
7) BPA
1. DL -- preferably DT/DE pass rusher
2. OT -- obvious reasons
3. TE -- need a big target in the middle of the field
4. CB -- need Wade replacement, draft deep at CB
5. OL -- interior OL to compete and possibly replace Pugh next year
6. RB -- need another guy to share the load, draft deep at RB
7. S/CB -- need depth
Regardless of draft philosophy, I think the top 3 tackles all have blemishes and that Lamp could be the # 1 pick because of versatility.
Scarcity;
The hardest position to fill in free agency is a starting QB.
The second hardest position to fill is a left tackle.
If you do not get your tackle in the draft you will have a difficult time filling that position.
Safe;
It seems that projecting the sucess of an offensive lineman in the first round is quite high,making this a safer selection.
Need;
An offensive tackle is arguably the number (1) need for the Giants.
Future;
The Giants have Pugh and Richburg coming up for contracts. There is no guarantee that they will be resigned.
Next year;
It is possible that a first round tackle can compete for a starting possition. Whereas other possitions take a longer time for the player to assimilate.
I am not proposing reaching for a player.
However, if the tier value is the same I go for the OT.
The CB depth behind the big 3 is horrifying. It's vital that they come away with a viable backup CB.
Beyond that, I view OL and RB as the biggest concerns.
