A lot of you draft addicts like me are familiar with the draft simulator at Fanspeak. If you aren't, there are many different big boards to select from when running your draft simulation, and based on the big board, you can get some pretty wild results. Yes, a few of them are really off the wall stupid (Like Jeff Risdon, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, & Draft Utopia). Draft Utopia even has Fabian Moreau listed as the draft's 73rd AND 76th overall player... so there's that.
However, over the last week, I decided it would be interesting to do separate mocks using (almost) ALL of the big boards. Team needs were kept static (Fanspeak). This is for discussion, and I think in particular the 1st round simulations are most helpful, but please, I know that some of these simulations and big boards are so out of touch with reality. These are players I like and I think the Giants will like, and there are some common threads.
The most common first round pick was Ramczyk, but there were a couple of simulations where Jonathan Allen fell to our spot, and he was the pick. For these mocks, I prioritized Ramczyk over Bolles, but ask me next week and I might have the reverse.
What you won't find at all: Any QB. I do not believe the Giants are looking for a QB in this draft, and I don't think they should. They have 2 viable backups (depending on your definition of viable) in Geno Smith and Josh Johnson, and the most durable QB in the NFL who is under contract for the next 3 seasons... I think next year is the year they will look for a QB in the draft to groom.
You also won't find a high priority on tight ends. I didn't really purposely avoid them, just that I liked other players at positions the Giants put a higher priority on at the spots where a tight end would've been considered at the pick. I think the Giants don't need to force TE, they have Tye, Adams, and Ellison, as well as Lacosse in case of injury attrition. Certainly the Giants could draft one, and I certainly would like to see them get a good one, and this is a good draft for one, but I'd rather have a Caleb Brantley or Chris Wormley in the 2nd than a Evan Engram or Bucky Hodges, for example.
These mocks might also help introduce some players in the later rounds to some posters you may not already be familiar with that the Giants may target. I'm working on providing the shareable link to the Google spreadsheet showing the full mock draft results, as well as some of the players I passed on in favor of the pick in each round. However, BBI doesn't like the link... so I'm trying to work on that and will add to the comments if I get it worked out.

Glad you mentioned him. I never drafted him prior to the third... and I admit the Giants MAY have him off their board. But he's a first round talent, and this was an incident several years ago, and admittedly what he did was despicable. But a lot of time has passed, and it's up to the teams to evaluate if he earned a second chance. I don't know if he has or he hasn't, and I know the Giants are conservative when it comes to matters like this, but I wouldn't take him off my board if he represented great value and I felt confident in his remorsefulness and behavior since the incident, and that's why I drafted him in certain mocks if he represented enough value at the pick. Certainly, if he's available in the third, that's phenomenal value in terms of just the skill and football ability of the player.
having said that; no way
Johnathan Allen or Malik Hooker or OJ Howard falls to us at 23. Maybe if the stars align Howard does.
They are all in order by round... I may be misunderstanding your vision here.
I agree, it's such a long shot to happen... I wouldn't say impossible because there are a lot of guys that teams will like in the top 22 picks, and if he somehow, some way, fell to 23, again, is nearly unthinkable, he has to be the pick. In terms of a theoretical Giants board, I would have him at the very top, personally, even over Garrett, because Garrett is a DE and we have Vernon and JPP under contract for the next 4 years.

I have a lot of guys ahead of Melifonwu. Where I took him in the first, it was basically like a worst case scenario for the Giants. But Melifonwu is a helluva consolation prize. If you put him in that defensive backfield, it's pretty spectacular to think about. I mentioned in another thread how he would fit. On the face you would think that there is no room for him with Collins and Thompson penciled in as starters. I think Melifonwu would step in at FS, Thompson would be on the field in nickel sets, with either Melifonwu or Landon Collins dropping in at a linebacker spot (this wouldn't affect the big 3 of Jenkins, DRC, and Apple).
So your defense on passing downs would likely be Vernon, Snacks, JPP, Kennard(?) up front, the aforementioned corners, Keenan Robinson and say Landon Collins at LBer, and Melifonwu and Thompson deep. Or some variation thereof... and just typing that gets me amped.
If it's Allen, he's BPA, yes. In terms of methodology, I always try to balance BPA, team need, and positional scarcity with each pick. That's the reason why in most cases RB's weren't taken prior to the 4th or 5th round... because looking at the players available, I felt I could wait longer and still get a good RB I liked later.
He has arthritis in his shoulders. Allen, not Reese. Unclear how much of a concern it is.
I agree, and in a dozen simulations he only fell to the 23rd pick in 1 of them.
How about LB JARRAN DAVIS FLORIDA
OR
TE EVAN ENGRAM OLE MISS
in the first round !!!!!

way we pickup Mixon ....

Maybe this conversation is out of scope here, but...
Was Mixon related to the woman he punched? Was it in the context of any sort of sexual assault, or abuse motivated primarily by the fact that she was a woman? Or did he punch someone due to an escalated conflict, and that someone happened to be a woman?
Otherwise a lot of excellent combos. I would take almost all of those.

Too many better players will be at 23 at bigger positions of need. Engram could be a surprise pick, I will grant you that. But I just don't think the bang for the buck is there at 23. Potentially in the 2nd round at 55 but even then I passed over him when available in favor of highly ranked cornerbacks or defensive lineman, and occasionally a OT.
There are guys that you listed in the late 4-6th rounds that won't... absolutely wont make it out of the 2nd or early 3rd.
you have to understand that most teams don't just draft need/ they take a BPA approach as well. The way these mocks have shaped out it looks like the giants are going to have steals at every round!
mocks are only good for the top 5 at best everything outside of that is useless.
Right, but... can Mixon and his camp present his episode as something that's categorically different from persistent spousal abuse?
I see it as a separate category. Brown was consistently abusing his wife, which therefore presents him as a beater of women (or at least, a beater of the woman he's married to). I think Mixon's episode presents him as a guy who can be provoked into punching an instigator who happened to be a woman, and not necessarily a habitual abuser of women.
Now, whether the Giants or any other team wants someone who can fairly easily fly off the handle and punch a person hard enough to injure their face is a related legitimate question.
the players good enough .
Were not gonna sniff Allen or Howard I'm leary of Cook .
I would feel much better going into this season with
two O-line early .. Love Foreman as a compliment to Perkins .
