Yeah, I know that sounds crazy. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. We need someone who can return kicks. We need someone who can be another linebacker/safety. We need another running back that could come in and make explosive plays.
Peppers was consistently the best athlete on the field in many of the games that I saw him play in last year. He can cover running backs out of the backfield. He is an explosive running back with the ball in his hands. And his special teams skills can not denied.
One pick takes care of three roster spots and hopefully he can develop into a star in two out of the three.
Heck, we might even be able to trade back and pick up some spots and still nab him.
Kid is a stud and the ultimate utility knife.
This. ^^ Strong kid that will withstand the pounding better than McCaffrey. Put him at RB and let him develop at a position he played as a kid. He was misused at Michigan. A 5'11", 215 bowling ball. The perfect compliment to Perkins.
KR and LB/S, to boot. A solid pick that allows us to do more with less picks later. How many of the other potential draftees play multiple positions and play them well?
We seem to be just fine at the Safety position. Collins is one of the top 3 Safeties in the league. Maybe the best. Darian Thompson looked very good in the 1 full game he played last year. Also impressed throughout mini & training camp. Andrew Adams played very well for a rookie UDFA that was thrown into a starting role. He should be better in his 2nd year especially with less snaps. If I was the Giants I'd add a vet Safety in the Deon Grant mold to teach the young guys.
Want nothing to do with a college safety who averaged 4 tackles a game for his career and forced 1 career turnover. Yes you read that correctly. In 27 games he forced 1 turnover. That was an INT. No fumbles recovered and no forced fumbles.
I'm surprised to read the lack of instincts and recognition on Peppers, it would suggest a big leap of faith to project him to FS in the NFL.
I love love love Peppers and would be excited to see him in blue, but not if it means sacrificing a quality player at a position of great need, like TE, OT, or RB.
This.
The draft normally isn't about now, it's about getting the best talent that fits your system and culture.
He really doesn't though. He's a DB that isn't great in coverage, isn't a very good tackler and doesn't create turnovers. Where is the Pro Bowler in that? As a return man sure he has Pro Bowl potential. Not on defense though.
I wonder that too... but what if the Giants actually *did* draft him as an RB?
I don't see it, but that would be mighty intriguing.
He can do everything. Peppers can do for you.
Now we're talkin'. I wonder what the draft projections for Baker are -- I'd think too many teams are wary of his size to take him in the first.
No he's not a good tackler. He missed over 15% of his tackle attempts in 2015 & 2016 combined. Including 20.4% of his tackle attempts in 2015.
