Ryan, unfortunately/Fortunately was drafted by the Giants in 2013. Fortunate in that he wasn't thrown onto the field as a target in his 1st year, providing time to study and learn from a very successful starter, Eli Manning. Unfortunately, his opportunities in the regular season over (4) years have been less than Aaron Rogers-esque who attempted 59 passes in 7 games with 1 TD in his 1st 3 yrs., he only passed 10 times in 4 years. Never forget, at Syracuse, he had a 60.3% completion rate, passed for 70 TD's, 28 Int's, and he is a mobile QB. Coughlin and Marone are taking a long look, you can be sure!
Yeah, those people were a joke.
I am not complaining about moving up to draft him. Hindsight is 20-20, we would know more if Eli had missed playing time. My post is sincere and I hope Nassib gets a legitimate chance to compete for a starting QB slot, ie. Jets, Houston, Cleveland, SF, Denver or Chicago.
What's TJ surgery?
I supported the trade then, and still do. Many teams had a second round grade on Nassib, which made him different from Bomar and Woodson. We also hadn't signed Eli to an extension at that point. It was a risk worth taking.
Yeah, those people were a joke.
Well, he did look good once for about a drive or so in a preseason game...
Bortles is entering his 4th and final year on his rookie contract! Eventhough Coughlin sent the signal Bortles was the starter, bringing Nassib in makes perfect sense. He will be a low cost QB who is a solid B/U QB candidate, if he shines in OTA's and preseason it pushed Bortles to get better and it provides a possible replacement for Bortles should he not perform adequately this season or he doesn't re-sign with the Jags.
We gave up a...gasp, 6th round pick to move up and take a QB that had a lot of upside, something we didn't yet do during the Coughlin/TC era. They tried to get a trade piece or a potential fill in if there was an Eli injury, shame on them.
You'd think we gave up a 1st rounder for the guy with how pissed some people are that it didn't work out. You know who else sucked? Ryan Mallet. The ole' Wizard himself spent a 3rd on him and it didn't work out...You win some you lose some, doesn't mean the strategy is stupid.
I was hoping he would be a possible successor of Eli, but whenever I saw him in preseason those thoughts quickly vanished. Heck even the thought of using him how the Pats use their backup QBs as trade bait also dissipated once he took snaps.
I know. Such an "um, ok?" moment for Reese. He was a must have though! To do...well, stuff.
Based on the result, that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for Marrone's ability to evaluate QBs.
He didn't suck. he, so far, simply hasn't shown that he's an NFL caliber player. Y'all let me know when you suck enough to be drafted.
EJ actually has a body of work, and Ryan doesn't.
You need the late round picks to build your special teams units and sometimes catch a break. I don't have anything against Nassib, its not his fault. When there is opportunity to play your backups I think you should do it. There is no excuse for the lack of playing time for the young guys when we were out of the playoffs.
#120 LB Gerald Hodges (54 games 26 starts)
#126 DE William Gholston (57 games, 36 starts)
#130 FB Kyle Juszczyk (64 games, 32 starts) 1 Pro Bowl
#132 DE Devin Taylor (61 games, 18 starts) started all 16 in 2016
#133 TE Levine Toilolo (64 games, 45 starts)
ONLY 7 useful players in the same round AFTER Nassib, and RG Watford taken by Arizona with the Giants original pick. although he's the only one of the bucn to miss significant time due to injury.
