NFT: Bruins at Islanders, 7pm Game Thread

pganut : 3/25/2017 2:18 pm
Major playoff implications tonight on the back end of a B2B. Isles hold the WC2 at present and need to hold serve against the team tied on points with them.

Thomas Greiss the likely starter; that to be confirmed along with the lineup later. Broons will be without Rask tonight (lower body), so the Isles need to pepper Khudobin early and often.

Still feeling really good after last night's gutty victory. The Islanders owe a lot to Jaro Halak's great play in his return from exile with 37 critical saves. His teammates and coach acknowledge that:
Quote:
He got us the two points we really needed,” said Casey Cizikas, who gave the Isles a 3-2 lead with 4.5 seconds left in the second period off a nice feed from Tavares. “He was huge.”

“I’m looking up and it’s 3-3 and I’m thinking, ‘Don’t let it slide in off someone’s foot,’ ” coach Doug Weight said. “We deserved this one. Not a slight to them, but we got what we deserved tonight.”

So the upshot for us is this isn't a day game...we all know how the team fares in the matinees. But we're at a point where no one can afford to take their eye off the ball. Max effort from this point forward...not just from the team, but you guys need to bring it. If you're not excited, I don't know what to tell you.

Let's Go Islanders!

Forgot to add a few tidbits
pganut : 3/25/2017 2:23 pm : link
Josh Bailey became the 6th person from his draft class to hit the 300 point mark with his assist last night. He joins Stamkos, Karlsson, Eberle, Doughty, and Stepan in that club.

John Tavares recorded his 300th and 301st assists. He is the 10th player to record 300 assists as an Islander. With his next goal, he'll tie Bobby Nystrom at 235 and move into a tie for 8th place in Islander history.

Andrew Ladd has reached the 20-goal mark for the 4th straight season and the sixth straight full season (he had 18 goals in the lockout year). He is one of 21 players to reach 20-goals in each of the last four seasons and one of only 14 to do so six times in the last seven seasons. He is six points shy of 500 for his career.

JT knows what it's gonna take to get this where we need it to be:
Quote:
"The games are all big now, but when you play a team that's part of the group that's battling for positioning, they are amplified a little bit more," John Tavares said on Friday in Pittsburgh. "But for us, we have to feed off our home crowd and it'll be fun."
This team better come out flying

Boston is in a slump, and the Isles must go for the throat.
On my way to Brooklyn now

Lineup update
pganut : 3/25/2017 5:13 pm : link
Greiss in goal, Gionta in for Kulemin, Prince in for Quine, Seidenberg in for Hickey. Great, getting Seidenberg involved looks more like a favor to Boston. Dougie say that he thinks Kulie won't be out of the lineup long.

you KNOW Weight likes to throw his boys a bone against their former team.. and the other guys get up for it for the guy.

I'm not so against it.
Hickey
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 5:24 pm : link
Is worse than Seidenberg right now. Hickey mouse needs to be on the way out.
Really excited for this one, obviously.
Mike in Long Beach : 3/25/2017 5:32 pm : link
Considering who the opponent is, this might be the biggest regular season game we've had since the 06-07 season. Game 82. Isles - Devils. Wade Dubliwitz (sp?) with the save and the Isles go to the playoffs.

This one isn't quite as do or die as that, but it's in our building. Gonna be a good one.

Be loud and bring home a win.

The team must keep the momentum going. Boston is slumping, go for the throat. The playoffs are right in front of them for the taking.
Isles/Barclays reporting the box office is...

Sold out.

Will definitely be a playoff atmosphere. Hopefully the team plays as if its a playoff game.
Yuuuuge game

We probably couldn't have even imagined a game like this one. I'm appreciative of it, but fuck I want a win.

JT RIPPER!

Great carry and shot. Great start.
Oh, Mayfield
pganut : 3/25/2017 7:26 pm : link
Playing like the Isles of old, commits a turnover with no pressure in the NZ, 1-1. Come on.
That looked awfully similar to Simple Jacks Isles.
BlueHurricane : 3/25/2017 7:28 pm : link
Get one and give it right back.
I guess tackling is legal in hockey too
Mike in NY : 3/25/2017 7:31 pm : link
.
Leddy gets called for a hold
pganut : 3/25/2017 7:33 pm : link
But Ho-Sang gets taken down blatantly with no call.

Boston is a trainwreck in their own end...we need to keep the pressure going. The chances have been plentiful.
After getting jobbed last night for less
pganut : 3/25/2017 7:37 pm : link
That's absolutely goaltender interference.
If that is not goaltender interference

I don't know what is
Thats the right call
pganut : 3/25/2017 7:40 pm : link
I just cant believe all 4 refs were gonna drop the puck and forced Weight to use the challenge. It was fairly obvious.
LOL @ Staple's tweet

At least you can challenge until you are unsuccessful
These dmen
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 7:46 pm : link
Are fucking brutal! Turnovers galore
Overall good period
pganut : 3/25/2017 7:51 pm : link
As noted, still some unsightly turnovers to clean up. The mental mistakes need to stop. That said, when we're in their zone, there's been a lot of pressure and chances. Keep it simple; avoid trying to be perfect with extra unnecessary passes. Middle/high stick side on Khudobin is where to go. If the Isles tighten up the D as I expect they will and maintain the offensive attack, this is a very winnable game.
When does HoSang
The 12th Man : 3/25/2017 8:17 pm : link
Get moved up to the 1st PP unit

Well, maybe a project for next season. JHS, Lee, JT, Leddy and Pulock/Boychuck. Goals by the truckload.
Just the same shit over and over
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 8:22 pm : link
Pass pass pass on the PP and then cant get a puck out of the zone to save their lives. Hold your beath hockey
Weird
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:27 pm : link
I thought that PK just now was excellent. Cleared it at every opportunity, and Zeeker had a better scoring chance than BOS did on the PP.
Sorry, KW
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:28 pm : link
I realized after the fact you were talking about the Isles last PP.
Pelech takes the body real well
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:29 pm : link
Flattened Pastrnak there.
Holy shit
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 8:29 pm : link
Is it the fucking ice? I dont understand why this team lises the puck so easily
The pp is just too slow and lethargic
Dave M : 3/25/2017 8:30 pm : link
Bailey on the point is not good as well. Imo
How about the fact that we often have a guy in deep with
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:32 pm : link
A great opportunity, but there's a change going on and the puck carrier has no one to pass to. That Chimera play...he was one on 4 with no one else to pass the puck to. Has happened more than a few times this year.
Wow
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 8:34 pm : link
Fuck these refs
Whew, glad the league is protecting players' heads
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:34 pm : link
Pastrnak targeted Gionta and delivers a butt end to the cheek. 2 minutes for roughing. Hooo-Kay.
That should have been
The 12th Man : 3/25/2017 8:36 pm : link
5 minutes what a joke.
And I'm real glad Prince is on PP2
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:36 pm : link

Whooping on leafs 5-2. This 3rd period is so huge
In the intermission interview
pganut : 3/25/2017 8:48 pm : link
Zeeker just said this 3rd period is the biggest period of the year. Let's see the boys come out smokin'. Let's score 3 here in the 3rd and run away with it. LET'S DO THIS!
Fuck this team
KWhite2250 : 3/25/2017 9:08 pm : link
Turnover after turnover., its so annoying to watch
OK, Isles...anytime you want to start the 3rd would be great
pganut : 3/25/2017 9:08 pm : link
Not really playing like it's an important period.

But 29 minutes without an even strength shot isn't gonna win many games.

Wake the fuck up and stomp these fuckers.
Smart play Ladd

Ugh
We keep getting handed PPs
pganut : 3/25/2017 9:23 pm : link
Might be a good time to use one to do something other than reduce the remaining gametime. Very disappointing the lack of urgency shown tonight. They had the Bs reeling in the first and then let their foot off the gas. Quick passes, get shots on frame. Let's get one here.
Are you kidding me?
pganut : 3/25/2017 9:25 pm : link

Oh JT

After the Ranger and Penguin game.
When all is said and done
Dave M : 3/25/2017 9:38 pm : link
This game, the games against Toronto and Tampa and the flat out no shows are the reason why they probably don't get in. They just seem to not win the playoff matchup type games unless the Rangers are involved.
Just a massive disappointment
pganut : 3/25/2017 9:39 pm : link
That long road trip killed any home mojo. 0-3-1 in their last 4 at home. 19 shots on goal in a critical game. Not gonna cut it, fellas.

But...these are our Islanders. Never ones to make anything easy.

8 to go with 4 at home and 4 on the road. But in another great schedule twist, 4 of the last 5 on the road with those 4 being consecutive road games before the season finale at home.

The clock is a-tickin', boys.
so...

I walked into a restaurant in Hangzhou, China tonight.. I go upstairs and I look to my left.

Again, Hangzhou CHINA..

In a frame on the wall? A Mike Bossy jersey.

I took pictures. I'm not sure how to send a picture that is from my phone onto this site, but when I do it's hilarious. A BOSSY jersey next to a bunch of chinese letters.

That is both incredibly random and amazing. Did you ask anyone at the restaurant about how that came to be there?
