Contracts and Hank

djstat : 3/26/2017 2:54 pm
I am not a fan of union Hank to a long term deal. We are heavily committed Cap wise upfront. In two years Landon Collins is a Free Agent. OBJ has two more years '17 and '18 before he's free. For those doing Math Collins and OBJ will be free agents at the same time and you cannot franchise both. Personally, I'd like to carry over a little cap space and reign Collins next year. Bromley if healthy can replace Hank and there needs to be some cheaper depth available up front via draft/UDFA.

Agree

There's already a fortune invested in the Dline.
Don't forget Pugh must be re-signed also unless we draft a successor. Oline FAs were paid a premium this year.

Sadly, Hankins cannot expect to strike gold.
I agree that Collins should be Re done.

If he doesn't deserve a new deal who would? Cash today is worth more than cash tomorrow. And he's young enough to give him a 5 year deal to push off the cap hit which would be higher once Eli is proably off the books in 2-4 years
Not sure why we need a fourth or fifth Hankins

Unless his season is cut short due to injury...

Pugh is going to be looking for a contract that pays him in the neighborhood of ten million a year (which is a pretty nice neighborhood). He's said as much already. Personally, I hope the Giants draft his successor this year.

And Even when healthy he's no Zack Martin. Good kid but the Giants would be insane to pay him 8-10 million per
We have to pay players every year
UConn4523 : 3/26/2017 4:26 pm : link
don't you think the Giants are factoring in future contracts of their best players? Is having to pay Beckham and Collins is a good thing.

This thread is about "union Hank." Read the OP more carefully next time.
Pugh

Is the leader of the offensive line. I cannot understand why there is a contingent of posters that don't place any value on leadership. He has started in 85% of games in his career. Lets see what happens this year.

I hear you Geo but
mrvax : 3/26/2017 4:58 pm : link
with the "star" players we have to re-sign, I'm not so sure the Giants can afford Pugh, a good but not great player, at $10M per year.

Because no matter how great a kid he is he's there's a salary cap. And signing a guy who has never sniffed a pro bowl 8-10 million a year may preclude you from signing guys like Collins and OBJ. Stupid money got thrown around this year for OL. maybe it will again next year. Sure we can wait but the very fact that he's the best OL on the team says more about how shitty the OL than how good he is
Agree with Matty

You don't build a great team by signing a player like Pugh to a $10 million contract over extended years. The only caveat to that is if he ends up playing LT and is competent and healthy. Otherwise you find a replacement at OG at a cheaper rate and save the big bucks for playmakers like Beckham and Collins

Lamp would be a perfect replacement for Pugh. His ceiling is likely higher than Pugh.
I have a strong intuition about Pugh

Overachiever carrying more weight than his frame can handle... Concussion-prone...I don't think he'll have a very long career. Hope I'm wrong but.....
