Before the Oakland Raiders play their first game in Las Vegas, the NFL will change a pretty important rule.
For the first time, the league will allow referees and other on-field officials into the city.
Yes, you read that correctly.
To guard against even the appearance of a conflict, the league has for decades prohibited its officials from visiting Las Vegas at any point during the season -- with the exception of personal emergencies or mandatory meetings for their non-NFL jobs. They are allowed to visit in the offseason, provided they inform the NFL office. But even then, they are barred from sportsbooks.
I will admit if I'm wrong, but I can't see anyway even remotely that they are still in Vegas 10 years from now. I do not think they will even make it a decade there.
I used to be stationed in Vegas when I was in the military and always longed for a professional sports team in that city. Glad it may finally come to fruition. But at the same time, Raider football outside of Oakland feels unnatural.
because it's Las Vegas are crazy. It's not like there isn't gambling, nightlife, hookers, etc. in any other big city.
However, the Raiders fans are the ones getting the shaft. They have been pretty loyal to a team that hasn't done shit in 15 years. The fans (customers) are never considered in these decisions.
the water issue really isn't bad in that we had record snowfalls this year
and will use the Israel system of converting sea water to drinking water 50 years from now.
the Stadium will benefit UNLV who will play there as well as entertainment, soccer and talk of even final four basketball.
I have been a Jersey boy my whole life, moving here has been an epiphany
just fabulous. 75 degrees today and the rest of the week, surrounded by snow cover mountains, legalized pot to boot

All true, but Vegas in the summer is a HELLHOLE. No two ways about it.
Vegas in the summer is not bad at all, first off the strip Â
which most people think is vegas is 5 to 7 degrees cooler.
Summerlin up in the Red Rock canyon where I am is a stones throw away from Mt Charleston which is 20 degrees cooler at 9000 ft.
many people also use the summer as travel months so going to California, flying to Hawaii, taking a cruise to Alaska or even flying back east to visit are all options. I flew back to Jersey last August and said holy shit 90's and humid sucks. it's all good though
Stan also there is this new marvelous technology Â
the water issue really isn't bad in that we had record snowfalls this year

So what about the 48 years between this year, and 50 years from now?

I don't think us Californians have any right to give anyone else shit about their drought conditions. How is the Raiders in OAK any different than the Raiders in LAS from a drought perspective?
How do you keep the visiting team in check over there? These are sex-crazed, super-rich ballers we are talking about, there's already enough shorties over there.
On the flip side, this is great news for our Odell Beckham! That'll be a prime-time game for sure if we ever play there.
According to Kratch, the Giants won't have the opportunity to play the Raiders in Las Vegas until 2025. Odell will be 32 by then and who knows A - if he'll be on our team and B - if isn't ball and chained by then. Not that the latter would slow him down in Vegas.
our water source is the Colorado river not lake Mead

Im thinking buying to own and rent out, flipping is extremely risky, renting is profitable in small increments until closure then the dollars roll in.
people owning 2nd homes to rent is very popular out here Â
look not to be political but the push in 2006 that everyone should be able to own a house was sheer lunacy. loans were given to people with no chance of sustaining a mortgage.
What's the over/under on the first dumbass player who.... Â
try to milk $ from the taxpayers. Build your own damn stadium.
Okay, but when they do, they're going to look to build them in places where they can maximize their revenue, get the best return on their investment. So, don't be surprised if that leads to more teams moving. Smaller market cities will most likely get left out in the cold.
You can't have it both ways. I don't like subsidizing billionaires, either, but you can't expect them to make decisions that will hurt their own bottom line.

Oh please. Their bottom line isn't being hurt. They just want more and more. Greedier and greedier. They make money hand over fist, particularly with the TV contracts. They're not moving because they're hurting. They're moving because they are greedy m'fkers.
They rolled belly up. Politicians raised taxes to provide a historic $750 million public subsidy.
This led to unremarked-upon cognitive dissonance in Las Vegas. Even as politicians increased taxes for stadiums, Clark County school officials voted last spring to increase public class sizes and to close a school for at-risk students. There was simply no money. “

They're businessmen, not philanthropists.
Of course they're not philanthropists. Philanthropists donate money they have. And not all businessmen on the scale of these folks are greedy bastards. Many feel a responsibility and loyalty to the people who have made their enterprise successful.
If governments are stupid enough to give away money... Â
...can't really blame he team owners for taking it.
The whole thing is a giant con. There are so many better things they spend their money on. There very little evidence for any significant, long-term economic boost from building stadiums and arenas.
And, in most cases, the majority of taxpayers don't want to build these things with public money. So elected officials and league reps collude to push these things through with little or no input from the people who will actually be paying the bills.
The funny thing here is that the Raiders are going to have to play in Oakland for two or three more years before their new digs are ready. If they though they attendance problems before, just wait.
I hadn't paid close attention, and only just saw that they'll remain Â
in Oakland both this year and next. (And possibly 2019, since the new stadium won't be ready until 2020, though I assume they'll use a college stadium in Nevada rather than stick around). When's the last time a team played an entire season as a lame duck after having already announced it was leaving. Two seasons? Seems weird.

No different than the entire SW. Building a city in the desert is never a great idea.
