NFT: TV Show: Man Seeking Woman

tbonfig : 3/27/2017 10:51 am
I know there are movie/TV show threads every now and then, but I can't recall if this show has been mentioned as a recommendation.

I've been binging it the past few days and it is amazing! It is one of those shows that I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has on cable, but I suppose being on FX helps.

I'm sure it is not for everyone but the distorted reality and elements of over exaggeration are hilarious.

Thoughts?
Gave it a shot when it first came out...

As I like the lead actor, and am a huge Eric Andre fan. And I also much prefer cable shows (dramas & comedies) to network. But after a few episodes of trying to like it, I gave up.
I like Jay Baruchel

he's a huge Canadiens fan and does a lot of promo work with them, and I liked Goon (haven't seen part 2 yet), and I do watch this show some times, but the over the top exaggeration is a little too over the top for me.

I like the show, love the premise, but if I miss it I usually delete it from the DVR before watching. Just not enough time and it's not quite good enough to watch religiously for me.
Interesting

I think it is completely a style choice. I just finished watching an episode where the girl is literally dating Jesus Christ in the first half of the episode and the second half of the episode the step father is giving advice on how he got the lead actor's mom and said: It's not like I sat around by the phone, if you know what I mean. No no, I ate 10% of my bodyweight in honey, went to a cave, covered myself in leaves and brush and took a nap for 5 months. It then continues to show him basically as a bear waiting for the mom to break up with her then-boyfriends. I was rolling.

But I get how this may not be for everyone!
I love it.

It's so ridiculous but all the absurd things they do really do translate from a comparative POV. Eric Andre is great as always.
I was a huge fan of this show

But man, season 3 really just lost it for me. Only got halfway through to be fair, but the whole basis of the show changed with the relationship. It took away what I really loved about it.
In my case it was the opposite - like the show, can't stand

the lead actor. Way too damn whiny for me, it's what I imagine the sound of a carrot peeler being rotated in your eardrum would sound and feel like.

Sonic, I had this same thought, but the second half of the season was lightyears better than the first half. It goes back to Season 1 weirdness

Just started Season 3 and I hear what you're saying but I feel like all shows reach a period of either repetition or venturing down a new path.

the girlfriend on the show
Maybe I should give it a new shot

It just ruined the appeal of the whole thing when they got into making every episode about their relationship (again, only got a few episodes in). And it seemed much more set-piecey, but in a bad way.

I'll have to check out the second half if people are saying the season got better.

As for the GF - she's cute and very easy to like, but it's not that SHE ruins the show - it's the whole idea of Jay (or whatever his real name is supposed to be) being suddenly in a super fulfilled relationship was just such a leap.

I did like the episode where they visit her HS friends and it's a horror episode, but that was season 2 IIRC.
Having said that

It really is an innovative and amazing show -- I just, well, connected with it over some very emo moments, lol. Reminded me of dealing with college GFs / being single in nyc after college. Seeing a happy relationship kinda just ruined the whole thing.
Pretty sure they changed the show to pull in women

Probably didn't have the ratings they needed, and as it was the show's audience was probably only younger males, so they had to bite the bullet and do something to pull in the female viewers.
