NFT: Anyone listening to the "S-Town" Podcast? No spoilers

DanMetroMan : 2:52 pm
This is being hyped up as the "new" Serial. I just began the first episode and wondered if anyone else was listening/is it worth listening to? All 8 episodes are available right now (Please no spoilers).
What's the premise?
giantsfan44ab : 2:58 pm : link
Shit, serial season 1 occupied like 2 entire days for me.

"The show description seemed to suggest that the team was looking into yet another crime, perhaps in the same vein as the investigative journalism of “Serial.” A man had reached out to Reed to look into the son of a well-to-do family, who had allegedly bragged about a murder he’d gotten away with in his Alabama town.

However, the story that eventually emerged wasn’t about the murder.

Reed and Snyder had started working on the show before production on “Serial” even began. The subject of the show, John, initially contacted Reed in 2014. Given John’s sweet but peculiar personality, Reed decided to meet John in Alabama and see where the story could go. The show leads with Reed’s investigation into the murder, until someone else ends up dead — and the reporting takes an unexpected turn.

Although the show’s name is officially “S-Town,” Reed refers to the show as “Shittown” throughout the season: The name John would use to describe his hometown. Below are quotes from HuffPost’s separate conversations with both Reed and Snyder, which took place about a week before the premiere."-Huffington Post

First time I heard this guys voice an image of Stingray Steve popped up into my head and that's now the face I put to that voice..

If you dont know who that is I wouldn't bother looking him up.

I wish Serial would have put out more murder mystery things instead of the crap we got on the second season and the new one coming up on the band.

S-Town will suffice!
oh and yeah,

Yeah for sure. I hope he releases a memoir or something before his death. There's certainly a deeper level to him. Seems like a very cool, normal guy on the surface.

Was there more evidence that was released?
I don't know

how anyone can 100% think Adnan did it. I'd lean towards yes but there's so much evidence that doesn't corroborate the states story that its hard to put a finger on it.
I believe there is a new trial scheduled for June.

It's been a while since I listened to the podcast, so I'm fuzzy on the details, but it seemed like there was a lot of evidence pointing towards him.

My personal instincts (obviously which carry no weight in a the court of law), having grown up near the area where this took place, his demeanor in the interviews seemed very familiar to me. One I have seen used countless times and even used myself when in trouble and being full of shit. Just a gut feeling.
interesting podcast

A liberal in a deep south small town basically who trying to shed light into some incidents. If Ira Glass is gambling big on this, then its probably worth something to listen to.

On a side note, I have a friend who did business with Ira Glass, very foul-mouthed person esp when things didn't go his way and very arrogant.

I should clarify. I think its pretty hard to come up with evidence where someone other than Adnan did it, but there isn't enough evidence to sufficiently say Adnan did it 100%.
What I still don't understand
BigBlueDownTheShore : 3/29/2017 2:56 pm : link
is the drug dealer changes his story like every time he tells it. He helped bury the body, but somehow Adnan is the 100% the killer. It just never jived with me. Maybe its because I'm in a business where I have become a human lie detector.
I will definitely check this one out
JerryNYG : 3/29/2017 3:42 pm : link
Also, if you like the true crime stuff, check out "Crimetown" which tells the sotry of various politicians and Mafia figures associated with Providence, RI in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It is pretty awesome.

I don't disagree. He looks "guiltiest" but the lack of motive bothers me. They claim its because they broke up when it was weeks later, Adnan wasn't devastated by all accounts, and was able to get other girls anyway.

I also can't get past the timeline of when this all was supposed to happen. When Sarah Koenig did the timeline they barely made it which means there was no room for any error. I also don't buy that she was strangled in broad daylight in a Best Buy parking lot.

The lack of a real motive is definitely disturbing and that fact that most of the evidence really wasn't good. Like the cell phone towers.

Yeah there's for sure some big part of the story no one knows about.

And back to this podcast, I'm roughly 3 podcasts in. I can't say it's as exciting as Serial..and not going to give any spoilers...anyone who is farther along suggest to keep listening?

Can't say it's exactly boring, John is definitely an intriguing guy. Certainly depressing but probably a lot more intelligent than me.
