NFT: RE: Trampoline purchase help requested

rasbutant : 3/28/2017 3:15 pm
Looking to purchase a trampoline for the kids, but also want one that adults can go on without fear of breaking it.

Sam's Club has a 15' Round Trampoline and Enclosure for $279, but the weight cap. is 200lbs. To get one that is rated for 250lbs the price jumps up to the $600 range.

I would like to stick to the $300 range, does anyone have recommendations on a trampoline they like. Or tell me if its not worth buying unless you get an expensive one. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Trampolines are sick

I had one growing up (15+ years ago) and it was a ball.

I doubt that weight limit really matters if its nice weather outside (so its not overly stiff) bc I jumped on it into my teens with my siblings and I was almost 200 lbs myself.

The annoying part is deciding to take it apart and store for the winter, or let it wear quicker by leaving it out. And moving it when you cut the lawn, some get heavy.

If you have boys/nephews make sure you get the protective netting around and a basketball hoop! I've been looking to get one but my boys are only 3 and 1 so it would be for myself really, and Im well over the 200 lbs limit so that likely wouldnt end well.
those springs absolutely suck

to attach/detach.

Make sure you have a flat area to set it up (my idiot neighbor has one on a hill and weeds growing up through it...)
There are better ways to spend your money

I saw at least three kids get pretty fucked up on trampolines as a kid.

I hear trikes are really safe.

noine.
you can spend $300 on the one pictured
oghwga : 3/28/2017 3:36 pm : link
and throw it out in 3 years when it falls apart or spend $600 on the rectangular one and get amazing use out of it and your kids won't outgrow it.

Ask me how I know.

We had both and the difference in quality between the two was unbelievable. You get what you pay for.

Bravo good sir, bravo.
Make sure you get the corkscrew gound anchors.

Our trampoline landed up in a tree during a storm. We anchored it afterwards, and it has stayed put since then.
spring free is expensive

Buy the Sams Trampoline
AnnapolisMike : 3/28/2017 4:54 pm : link
I have a 15' tramp from Sams that is about 8 years old and it has held up well. 200 lb limit is not a concern. That said trampolines are dangerous... Especially with 3-4 kids bouncing around.

15' is a good size. Read the directions carefully!!! Easy to screw up putting it together.

Would not own one.

But I'm in the insurance business so I've seen a thing or two. Nor would I provide products liability insurance for a manufacturer.

Have the neighbor kids parent sign waivers. We had an issue in our neighborhood and now I am reticent to let kids play with my kids on the trampoline.

Moral of the story - people are assholes.

Yup, we had a great dog that all my sons buddies played with. She use to do a thing where she would take the socks off their feet if they played with her. My son had one of his little league teammates come over who he rarely hung out with. They started playing with the dog, dog took socks off and in the process, she got this kid with one of her nails. Nothing major (size of a pencil eraser) but it was a puncture. Kid was fine but we made sure to disinfect, bandage and then call his mom who was at the friends house. She said no big deal, kid walked home and that was that until 7 months later and she confronts my wife about medical bills (30 days before xmas).

I said fine send me the bill, she sends a redacted one showing 1K and I'm like WTF? No services on the bill (they were whited out) just the bill. I said I need something better than that, two days later Sheriffs show up and register the dog as a biter and I am being sued for 5K. We go to small claims and her poor kid is basically ostracized by his classmates because they all hang out at our house and adored our dog, even the kid himself was mortified over this. Ended up paying $500 for medical bills (she still refused to show the detail bill due to medical privacy she claimed but we had it on good authority that it was a BS bill dealing with one of her other kids breaking his finger).

Shame of it all I could not allow the kid over to the house anymore because of his greedy scumbag parents and he is actually a really good kid.
