Lamp is only OL I would be happy with in Rd 1

1st and 10 : 3/29/2017 12:39 am
Cam seems to me to be a Flowers clone.

Bolles is 25 and I think his frame is maxed out, he will be near 30 by the time his 2nd contract comes up.

Ramczyk has only started 1 year and has had a hip injury in his first year starting and they say he also has short arms for the position. He does pkay with a nastiness and seems to have thebhighest upside so he is the most acceptable out of Bolles and Cam to me.

Lamp seems to be the safest OL pick, a plug and play guard with probowl potential.

I am not a fan of forcing the pick for an OT in Rd 1 if the value is not there.
I agree with bolles would also like cam

Absolutely don't want ramczyk. Seems like that would be a forced pick and a need pick. Better guys to be had than him. Good lineman available round 2. I'm warming up to Barnett or even McDowell in round 1 if guys like reddick bolles etc are off the board
Lamp is my #1 overall OL in this class
Torrag : 3/29/2017 8:06 am : link
...but I doubt he'll be in my highest remaining tier when we're on the clock. My serious interest in OL starts in Round 2 with Dorian Johnson, followed closely by Dion Dawkins.
This is not the year
George : 3/29/2017 8:12 am : link
to go OL in Round One, which means Ereck Flowers will be our LT come September (barring something catastrophic, knock on wood).

But I can see us picking a RT in Round Three or Four.
Not seeing any OL of matching value at #23

and Fluker has the potential to reduce the urgent need for this year.

None of these prospects has much of a chance to unseat Flowers, fans need to accept that.
From the scouting reports
mrvax : 3/29/2017 8:15 am : link
I've read, Lamp should be considered a plug-and-play guard.

It would be a huge payoff if the coaches really put in as much time as possible with the 2 monsters, Flowers & Fluker. I'd love to have them as bookends if they can improve.
Lamp's my favorite
jeff57 : 3/29/2017 8:22 am : link
But I'd be happy with Bolles or Ramcyzk

Not only did the Giants grade Flowers very high, they also graded Fluker very high in his class. Now they've got both, let's hope they can break through both young men with a ton of potential.
Lamp only seems realistic
SomeFan : 3/29/2017 8:25 am : link
if he is drafted to play LT. Otherwise, he does not make sense.

On Bolles, wasn't Aaron Ross of a similar age when he was drafted at a position of dire need? To me Bolles is a possibility but Lamp only if he will be a clear LT in the NFL.
'grade Flowers very high, they also graded Fluker very high'...
Torrag : 3/29/2017 8:28 am : link
Based on what we've seen so far from both maybe we need to do some re-evaluating with our scouts on desirable LT traits. But Flowers is still quite young and the hope, belied by the on-field results to date, is that we can bring it out of him.
Ramczyk has 33 3/4" arms; not too short for a LT, but not 35"
yatqb : 3/29/2017 8:36 am : link
arms like some guys. But his balance is impeccable and his feet great. Bolles is 6'5" and only 297 lbs. I think he'd easily get to 310 in a good weight program. So I'm not sure that your complaints about either of these guys are something I'd be concerned about.

That said, I agree that Lamp is a plug and play OG, and if we were fearful of losing Pugh next year he'd be a fine choice.

OL
stretch234 : 3/29/2017 9:00 am : link
If we are going to be realistic here, there is little to see that either Ramcyzk or Bolles are coming into the NFL and playing LT

the following OL were all higher ranked than these 2 coming out as Tackles going back to 2011.

N. Solder, T. Smith, G. Robinson, J. Matthews, L. Johnson, T. Lewan, M. Kalil, R. Reiff, E. Fischer, L. Joeckel, DJ Fluker, Z. Martin, E. Flowers, A. Peat, B. Scherff, C. Ogbuehi

Kalil is the only guy who played well as a R LT and then fell off a cliff. Some started off at RT (Solder, Smith, Lewan, Johnson, Fisher, Ogbeuhi) some moved inside (Scherff, Fluker, Martin, Peat) some were put a LT and struggled early (Reiff, Matthews)

If either of Bolles or Ramcyzk are thought as these can't miss LT they wont be available at 23
I'd have no problem
ryanmkeane : 3/29/2017 9:00 am : link
with a plug and play guard at 23 with Lamp's pro bowl potential. Only problem is, we've signed Jerry and Fluker. To me, I'd still love if Lamp was the pick but just seems for THIS YEAR anyway, they may value a playmaker or edge rusher at 23 instead of a guard.

Torrag : 3/29/2017 9:04 am : link
I see where you're going but for the sake of accuracy Taylor Lewan went to the Pro Bowl as a LT this season.
Fluker was a horrid guard
ZGiants98 : 3/29/2017 9:26 am : link
He at least was half way decent at RT at one point. Why are people so willing to put Fluker at a position he sucked ass at?
I would be happy with
PaulN : 3/29/2017 9:33 am : link
Flowers/Pugh/Richburg/Lamp or Mangold/Fluker as the starting offensive line. Mangold would be an excellent addition also, if anything happened to Pugh or Richburg you can move Mangold in the center slot and put Jerry at right guard, or could put Mangold or jerry at left guard if anything happened to Pugh. I see Lamp able to do the same thing, only he does not play center, but he could start off at guard move to left or right tackle if needed, I also like the Lamp pick in round 1 and agree he is the only lineman in this draft worth a first round pick.
If they pick OL round one
Johnny5 : 3/29/2017 9:42 am : link
I will not be happy. I like Lamp from what I've seen, but not in round one.

BPA. Whoever is at the top of their board when their time comes is who I want.
Lamp= Snee i would be happy with the pick
gtt350 : 3/29/2017 9:47 am : link
our offensive line contracts are all up we need to re group
Bolles is the pick if he is there
averagejoe : 3/29/2017 9:54 am : link
Who cares about a second contract in a not-for-long league? Giants will pick best OL available in round one unless a DE they really love drops to them.

This.

I think Lamp will be a very good guard, but I think Dorian Johnson will also.

Given the choice, I'd prefer to use the first pick elsewhere and take Johnson in the 2nd.

Of course, there is a good chance both will be gone. I think OL will be way overdrafted.
I can't see any OL worth taking in the 1st
mavric : 3/29/2017 10:21 am : link
Lamp will be good, but "he ain't a tackle" at the NFL level. He will be moved to guard in the pros and will probably be a good one. To me, guards are not first round material unless they are in the mold of Zach Martin. And from a needs point of view, the Giants NEED an OT for the future.

The only OT I see being a future player with pro-bowl potential is Antonio Garcia out of Troy. And being a small school prospect, he won't go in the first round.

6'6", 302 lbs, 33 1/2 arms, etc

The scoop from NFL.com:

"Outstanding athleticism. Very good lateral quickness coming out of stance. Former high school hooper who still has basketball feet. Able to mirror pass rushers before and after engagement. Rarely beaten cleanly around edge by speed. Continues to slide feet and maintain engagement up and around pass arc. Works to keep his blocks centered in his power zone."

He has the light toe-tappin dancing feet needed to be a top OT, but could use an additional 10-15 lbs of muscle and some NFL seasoning. He would get some snaps this year, but would take over LT the following season after his NFL baptism

I'd take him in the 2nd round in a heart beat

are either Bolles or Ramcyzk considered close a prospect to Lewan - not at all.

He made the Pro Bowl in his 3rd year. He was not good as a part time R, he was OK last year.

The point is it took him 3 years,

As I said I get where you were going. But three years to develop a top LT isn't anything new. He's played well since he was drafted. The point is he shouldn't be included in your 'list'.

I'm on record for a while and even in this thread as against drafting an OL in Round 1 with this class.

3 years means there's still hope for Flowers.
As has been stated

I think Flowers is our LT this year.
First Round Has To Be BPA

I love Lamp!
