they wouldn't let Fukunaga do what he envisioned so he left. He wanted a 2 part story so he can build an actual story. I also thought "Mama" was terrible so I don't have high hopes that the director will get this right.
There were some things in the trailer that were in the book but not the miniseries, which gives me hope. And let's be honest, the only good thing about the 1990 mini series was Tim Curry. It was othwise pretty shitty. Truth be told it wouldn't be hard for the movie to surpass it. As for Pennywise, it's hard to really get a feel for now he'll be portrayed from just the trailer. I know people loved Curry's portrayal, and I like it too, but from what I've been reading it sounds like this Pennywise will be closer to the source material- the smugness, the air of superiority, the disdain he has for humans.
Basically I think it can be good. Now, The Dark Tower? That's another story. From everything I've read it sounds like Nikolaj Arcel has forgotten the face of his father.

I spent a lot of time reading The Dark Tower series. They better not screw that up. That could be terrific if done properly.

It's my favorite book series of all time. And I'm almost certain they're going to screw it up. Which is a real shame because it's one hell of a fantasy epic. My hopes were dashed when people voiced concern over the exclusion of some pretty major characters and Arcel responded by saying that it's "technically not an adaptation, it's more like I sequel".
late 1800s He hates people and is very cruel and vicious (played like a monster).
Tim Curry played Pennywise like a 1950s-1960s tv show clown for kids.. only evil. Its why it was so good because with the laughter came the fright. There are moments where you are giggling until he goes all monster. The library scene with Harry Anderson in the mini series was great.

I'd be really interested to see how much the delve Â
into Pennywise's true identity. I always thought King's connected universe was really interesting re: dead lights and how certain evil entities are a constant throughout much of what he writes about.
I would also love to see some more of his works expanded Â

I wouldn't count on it, it's basically he reason why Fukunaga left.
“I was trying to make an unconventional horror film. It didn’t fit into the algorithm of what they knew they could spend and make money back on based on not offending their standard genre audience. Our budget was perfectly fine. We were always hovering at the $32 million mark, which was their budget. It was the creative that we were really battling. It was two movies. They didn’t care about that. In the first movie, what I was trying to do was an elevated horror film with actual characters. They didn’t want any characters. They wanted archetypes and scares. I wrote the script. They wanted me to make a much more inoffensive, conventional script. But I don’t think you can do proper Stephen King and make it inoffensive.”
I always thought there was so much more to dive into in King's work that is left out of most of the movie and TV adaptations. Maybe the Dark Tower movies will cover some of that stuff.

They still are doing 2 movies. This one is just based on the kids storyline while the second will be about the adult storyline.
There is a reason that, for the most part, his novels Â
don't translate to great films. They are too intricate. IT, the Stand, Talisman and the like require more than one 2 hour film to properly tell the story. But, they also need a big budget to not make it look schlocky.

Interesting, I thought that idea was canned when Fukunaga left.
This is one i'll wait for reviews for. I want to like it, I just don't care for the director or the studio wanting a more standard approach to the story.
The '90 movie still scares the hell out of me.
It's really about representing the book, which was one of the scariest books I've ever read.

You're declaring that they "ruined" Pennywise based on 4 seconds of screen time in a trailer.
This is a straight adaptation of the book, it is likely that that side of Pennywise will be shown as well.
Curry will of course be difficult to replace.
