Yesterday, Giants checked out TE/WR Derrick Griffin

KWALL2 : 3/29/2017 4:08 pm
They went to the Rice pro day to check out Griffin. He's the 6'7" TE/basketball player who got tossed from the Texas Southern football team in the fall.

His AA is impressive but he didn't show it at the pro day. Blamed a bad leg on it. Only jumped 31" which is suprising for a guy who bangs his head on the rim. Maybe the leg was a real problem although he also came in about 15lbs heavier than his playing weight.

After the workout, one scout said he's going undrafted. He will workout again in 2 weeks. If the leg is ok I would expect a great workout and he'll get drafted. Late round or undrafted, he may become the biggest steal in the draft.

A lot of talented TE prospects in this draft. Athletically he measures up to all of them. But he keeps shooting himself in the foot and could blow it all.

Giants should stay away from guys who shoot themselves in the foot

Assuming he does well in interviews

I would be very happy taking a chance on Griffin in the 6th or 7th round. Those picks rarely work out anyway why not take a chance on a great athlete.

There's a few red flags in there.

Even if so, is there any harm taking a flier on this kid as an UDFA?
The Giants always do extra work on the 'troubled children'...

...in the draft.
Many red flags Jon

But he sure looks good on a field and a court. He can move and get up and would be a great red zone target.

We need a mismatch at TE. If things don't fall our way with a TE early, id like to take a shot late on Griffin.
Wow, a taller Levitating Larry!?!?

Still looking for Antonio Gates or Tony Gonzalez, are ya Reese?
Has skinny legs of a sprinter. Not the legs of a lineman. Pass.

Can do WHAT!?

"the football ricocheted off his hands and fell to the ground"

And if you page through the photos, #4 shows him executing a perfect summersault with his head aimed precisely at the ground.

A truly worthy successor to Levitating Larry the Leaping Legend. Sure to be a waste of a roster spot for many years to come.
Guy drops a pass?
KWALL2 : 3/30/2017 12:55 am : link
Conclusion: he can't catch.

That's brilliant.

Hey, it's not a great endorsement. I only know what I read and see, and the article said he did noting.

Dropping passes and landing on your head is just too damn familiar.
