“We had him in our cutups this year, so I got to see him play a lot of football,” McCarthy said, via the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe. “To me, he is one of the best or potentially be the best tight end in the National Football League. It’s my responsibility to make sure I create those opportunities for him to succeed.” “He has very good tape,” McCarthy told reporters. “He was a very productive player in an outstanding offense. I have great respect for the Patriots and especially what they do on offense. We like a lot of things that they do. We keep an eye on what they do up there, particularly with some of the route progressions and more importantly how you use each player throughout the passing game.” Bennett, predominantly used as a blocker to begin his career, caught 55 of 73 passes last season for 701 yards and seven scores. He is one of two tight ends the Packers signed this month in free agency; former Rams tight end Lance Kendricks is the other. |
He doesn't have to say anything or use coach-speak
Money. 😎😜
Guys like Ertz, Reed, Gates, etc. are all receivers playing TE. I don't think people realize how big and athletic Bennett is. Isn't he in the 280 range?
Many reasons none of which have to do with his production on the field. He left Dallas because he wanted a chance to start and play more. He wasn't getting that in Dallas. He signed a one year prove it deal in NY. We have been missing him ever since. He wanted to get paid and rightfully so. He went to Chicago. Chicago traded him to NE. Why? I cannot be certain but I believe that Chicago eas trying to rebuild. He left NE because he wanted to get paid. Like every other FA in NE they have a price om their players. Bennett helped them win a super bowl. He went for the money. Now he is in GB.
I am sure some part may have to do with his personality but to my knowledge was never a bad locker room guy. He was just different.
It is easy to say this is his fifth team but the only thing that could be a question is why did Chicago trade him. But even then that is not an issue to me at all.
I can't get on MM for saying it, but I certainly don't believe him.
That said, he's not the best in the NFL, potential or current. Kelce probably has that title right now and isn't likely to let up, barring significant injury.
Receiving tight end. The dude can't block
Complimenting is one thing, it's done all the time..Saying he is potentially the best TE, isn't..Certainly none of our FAs last year or any other year (iirc) were deemed potentially the best at their position

Kelce is the best atm.

Kelce has become an above average blocker (pass pro + run blocking).
He's a complete TE now.
Love the black unicorn but this is just pure hyperbole

He doesn't really want to and when you are that good at catching and running the ball, I can understand why. He's such a dynamic player it's no wonder why he's made so many big plays over the past few years.
When he does want to block, he's pretty good. He's not Larry Donnell, but I'm not saying he's amazing either.

Would a guy who never blocks do that?
