Horizon: Zero Dawn
Titanfall 2
Madden or FIFA depending on your tastes
Doom, which is a shooter not horror, but it's steeped in horror-type visuals.
If you're okay with Japanese-style games, Nioh is good. Samurai action hack and slash type game. Gravity Rush 2 is an anime-inspired action game. I've heard mixed reviews for Mass Effect Andromeda.
Battlefield 1 is amazing if you're into 1st person shooters. Remarkable gameplay, and likeness to WW1. I don't usually get too much time to play my PS4, but when I do, it's usually Battlefield 1.
Like stated above, The Last of Us was a terrific story line. I really enjoyed that game.
As for sports games...the jury is always out on anything Madden, but I enjoy the game a lot. Any NHL games are very entertaining as well. MLB the show has just come out as well.
Whatever games you like the play, the PlayStation Store more than likely will have them.
That being said, The Last of Us is right up there among the top games I've played. I resisted for a while, but once I bought into the concept, the game play and storytelling was top-notch.
Uncharted 2-4 are likely the best games I've ever played. Right up there with Goldeneye for N64 and RBI Baseball 3 for Original Nintendo (nostalgia pick there). Uncharted 1 is good as well, and you pretty much have to play it if you're going to play the rest of the series. So incredibly worth the time investment, even for an infrequent gamer like myself.
Horizon is fantastic. I got it a couple of weeks a go and love it.
As others have said Uncharted 4/Last of Us are amazing games by Naughty Dog. Don't be put off by the zombie genre, i am not a huge fan either but the story is amazing.
Other PS4 exclusive games to consider (depending on your preference)
Persona 5 (Japanese Role Playing Game - getting amazing reviews)
Nier: Automata
Nioh
Ratchet and Clank (Platforming - Kid Friendly)
I've always preferred the Pro Evo Football games compared to Fifa
Other posters have already mentioned most of the games
You should play Uncharted 4 and the Last of Us. Story and adventure is great with both games. Both PS4 exclusive.
RPG wise, Horizon Zero Dawn is excellent and PS4 exclusive and Witcher 3 is multiplatform and best example of a true open world game I can think of. Persona 5 just came (PS4 exclusive too) and has great reviews but looks to be heavily Japanese/anime influenced.
Action wise, Bloodborne (should be available cheap) and Nioh are both good games.
I have the 360 but was always a sony fan myself. I need a new console. Haven't played in two years. From what I hear the PS4 is a great multimedia center?
If this game is anywhere close to as fun as it looks like it can be and it will be a winner.
Just started playing it and so far I really like it.
You start out with nothing and as a basic cave man type and have to forage, fight dinosaurs, learn new skill and build things to survive. As you level up you can choose what skill to increase and what new crafting skill you want to unlock so basically you learn and modernize with time.
You also have the option to play offline (solo or couch co-op) or online in an open world with other players.

For RPGs, there's Witcher 3,
Damn I haven't played he multiplayer. The single player Is one of the best I've ever played. Great story.
I'd go with Destiny if you like shooters.
Fallout 4 is solid.
I've only heard great things of Horizon: Zero Dawn. I haven't played myself, but everything I've read says it's great.
Titanfall 2 is a lot of fun (playing this now).
Destiny, of course.
