Great hire. Nice to see the all of the former VCU Coaches out there getting good gigs.

Looking forward to seeing Coach Smart and Coach Grant back at the Stu next season...
Hope we beat his ass next year

ah. didn't know that. I guess it makes sense with his connection to Billy Donovan.

Maybe this is too blanket a statement, but it doesn't seem that these former VCU coaches carry the success to the P5 schools they've left for. I don't think thats really a VCU thing, just a mid-major-to-P5 thing.

Capel had a nice run with Blake Griffen, but thats really it.

I guess its too early to tell for Shaka, but he had a bad season this year (I thought he should have bolted for G'town assuming the rumors that they wanted him are true. He would have thrived there) and Rhodes did okay at Rice which has never been accused to being a basketball powerhouse. He should do well with VCU.

I think Wade will have a similar (if not worse) run at LSU as Grant did at Alabama.

Grant should do well with Dayton.
Interestingly enough....

The rumor is that Shaka wanted G-town, but didn't want to leave unfinished business in Texas (looking at you Will Wade) after only two seasons.

I think Shaka gets it turned around, there. I know it's not looking good, but he didn't inherit much and it takes a couple seasons to get your guys in there and buy in to your way of doing things. I think he has them competitive next year.

As for Grant, he's got a lot of experience, but one has to wonder how much Eric Maynor carried him in his tenure at VCU. We whooped that ass when he brought Alabama back to Richmond to play us. I think it's a solid hire, though.

As far as VCU goes, so far, so good. Nobody has decommitted yet from our Top 25 recruiting class (although Kiir and Batts have not reconfirmed). Gut feeling is Batts will stay and Kiir will split. However, I'm hearing we have the inside line on Marcus Evans, and I'm hearing there may be a surprise coming to help us on the inside that may surprise a few of us.
In NFL related news....

Mo Alie Cox will work out as a TE for NFL teams in RVA on April 11th.

Well, he certainly has prototype TE size

Some guys find out that they don't like the contact. I forget his name now, but the big guy from George Mason's final four team tried out as a TE for the Giants and quit after a week or so because he simply couldn't deal with the hitting.

Be worth a shot, though. It's not like the Giants are loaded with quality TEs.
Yeah, would be interesting.
