BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/2/2017 10:32 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Once again, I strongly encourage ALL GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

Switzer would still be there at my pick and I would have an option between Amba and Switzer, so this made my pick a little easier.

Really pleased with my draft all around.

...my "bang-for-the-buck" award (without ever having seen most of these kids play) goes to the Chargers and Texans, with honorable mention to the Bucs. The Browns and 49ers reeled in a lot of talent too - maybe even more than their favorable draft position would have predicted.

"Most Intriguing Draft Class" goes to the Saints. Who gets the first drug suspension, Foster or Tabor? Who gets the first jail sentence, Foster or Mixon? Will King draw the first flag for a flagrant foul? Will Kizer ever see the field?

Thanks B3. I think the Texans got great value in each round

Eric, the UDFA period is going on now. Give it today for those who want to post, or sooner if Matt indicates that is his preference.
Ravens Draft/UDFA is complete
Mike in NY : 4/24/2017 7:50 am : link
1) Derek Barnett, DE/OLB, Tennessee
2) Dan Feeney, OG, Indiana
3) Ar'Darius Stewart, WR, Alabama
3) Josh Jones, SS, North Carolina State
4) Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia
5) Deatrich Wise Jr., 5T, Arkansas
6) Sam Tevi, OT, Utah

UDFA
Avery Moss, DE/OLB, Youngstown State (productive college player and I like his upside as a rush OLB in the 3-4)
Brady Gustafson, QB, Montana (who doesn't want a QB named Brady?!?)
De'Angelo Henderson, RB, Coastal Carolina (bowling ball of a RB and last year's 4th Round pick K. Dixon suspended first four games of 2017)
Jadar Johnson, S, Clemson (underrated S. Not sure how he goes undrafted in this mock)
Krishawn Hogan, WR, Marian (tremendous size and production, albeit at a lower level. Performance at combine indicates that he does have the potential to compete at higher levels)

Thank you once again to Matt G for all of his hard work that he puts in yearly to this Mock Draft.
I'm pleased with the my UDFA haul

Another mock in the books. That was a lot of fun.
Austin Ekeler, RB from Western State UDFA
Lionhart28 : 4/24/2017 9:55 am : link
Interesting kid... Worked out at Colorado's pro day:

5'8" and 5/8
Vertical: 40.5" (would have been #1 for RB at combine)
40: 4.43 (4th at combine)
Broad: 10'8" (3rd)
3-cone: 6.85 (3rd)

True Freshman: Started 9 games, ran for 1,049 yards was named conference Freshman of the year.
Sophomore: Set school records with 1.676 rush yards and 2,903 all-purpose yards. Second team all American.
Junior year:Led Division II with 203.9 all purpose yards/game. First team all American. Became school's all-time leading rusher.

If I was allowed to pick up two more UDFA's
MadPlaid : 4/24/2017 10:17 am : link
I would have picked:

Nick Callander, OT, Colorado St.
Jarron Jones, DT, Notre Dame

Either Dave Te or Sy had a nice write up on Callander, and what I read about Jones on-line sounded like a boom or bust kind of player. Apparently, he has a million dollar talent with a 5 cent head.
Have a soon to be four month old, so now I have time to comment
Kevin in CT : 4/24/2017 10:17 am : link
1)Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
2)Garrett Bolles, OT, Utah
3)Derek Rivers, DE, Youngstown State
4)Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan
5)Ryan Glasgow, DT, Michigan
6)Ryan Switzer, WR, UNC

Very happy with the way this draft unfolded for the Jaguars. I feel my first three picks could all be drafted in the first round and wouldn't be surprised to hear Rivers be a guy someone feels the need to jump on towards the end of round 1.

Fournette and Bolles were huge for the Jags offense who have no running game so to speak and Bortles needs a lot of protection so Bolles will instantly help out there.

Lewis is a little undersized but could instantly start as a slot corner as he has all the tools to succeed in the NFL. If he was over 6'0" he'd be a first round pick.

Glasgow is a guy who will do all the dirty things to make a team better, blue collar guy who won't be a star in the league but will earn his paycheck and play 10 years in the league.

Switzer is a Wes Welker type who should start out early as the team's PR. He can eventually jump into the slot in a couple years and easily be a security blanket for whoever is throwing him the ball.

Really like my draft, as I'm sure everyone likes there's as well. Will be interesting to see where these guys stand in three years.

Jarron Jones was selected with final pick by Kansas City. If I had a couple of more spots I probably would have added Matt Milano (LB/Boston College), Robert Davis (WR/Georgia State), Cethan Carter (TE/Nebraska), and Rashaad Coward (DT/Old Dominion)

Pittsburgh draft in the books
BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/24/2017 12:06 pm : link
1) Tim Williams OLB Alabama
2) Fabian Moreau CB UCLA
3a) Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova
3b) Wayne Gallman RB Clemson
4) Jeremy Sprinkle TE Arkansas
5) Jerod Evans QB Virginia Tech
6) Amba Etta-Tawo WR Syracuse

UDFAs
1) Corey Clement RB Wisconsin
2) Sam Rogers FB Virginia Tech
3) Jonathan Ford FS Auburn
4) Treyvon Hester DT
5) ToledoBen Gedeon ILB Michigan

Real excited to have picked Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova in the 3rd as there has been a ton of hype around him since I made that pick.

The peanut gallery's favorite pick as was Fabian Moreau CB UCLA.

I was able to fill in the Pitt holes without having to reach for barely anyone. I wish I could have picked a safety somewhere earlier, but I did not want to reach on a pick.
Oakland Draft
Amtoft : 4/24/2017 12:33 pm : link
1. OT Cam Robinson from Alabama - I think the best OL in this draft. I think he can play LT as proof of how he handled the best DE to come out in a while in Garrett. They let him handle him one on one and while Garrett had some plays Cam was great against him all by himself. Would love the Giants to take him round 1. He will start at RT and make the Raiders OL top 3 in the NFL.

2. CB Cordrea Tankersley from Clemson - another player I am very high on and hope the Giants draft. Raiders needed better CB play and Tankersley has good length coverage.

3. LB Raekwon McMillan from Ohio State - Love the value here as I think he is a second rounder. It wasn't long ago that McMillan was on every mock drafts first round.

4. DE Hunter Dimick from Utah - I took him probably a round early, but I wanted Dimick. I love this kid. So talented and really dominated the Pac-12. All heart and hustle with tremendous power (38 reps in the bench).

5. DT Davon Godchaux from LSU - I almost went DT Vincent Taylor who I has rated only slight ahead of Davon in round 4 and was going to take Dimick in round 5. I thought for sure I was losing both Taylor and Godchaux by doing that so to get Godchaux who was one of the best at rushing the passer at DT last year is great. Team player also.

6. DT Grover Stewart from Albany State - He is going higher than this. He is a monster at 6'4 347 lbs who ran a 5.1 40 and put up 30 on the bench press. Rumor has it he normally puts up 38-40 and nerves may have zapped him. Small school who will need a lot of work, but luckily DT doesn't need as much work as say a WR who has to run routes. He could turn into a dominate NFL player this late in the draft is what I think will be great value come draft day.

UDFA
1. RB I'Tavuis Mathers from Middle Tenn - So under rated and missed in a deep RB draft. I had Elijah Hood a power back rated higher and a steal in UDFA, but I planned on taking both Hood and Mathers. Super talented transfer from Ole Miss and blew up at Middle Tenn. 1500+ rush yards, 500+ receiving yards, 60+ catches (first time ever in the NCAA to have all that). He was thought to be 190, but weighed in at 203 lbs and ran a 4.46 at his pro day.

2. SS Nate Gerry from Nebraska - He hits like a hammer. He was the 3rd best run stopping safety in the draft. Reads the QB very well allowing only a 51.5 percent completion with a 54.5 QB rating against. Better in coverage than he gets credit for with 13 INTs and a bunch more PBs the last 3 years. Allowed some of the fewest deep completions in this draft. Had to many missed tackles going for monster hits in 2014 and 2015, but really cleaned that up. Good size at 6'2 218 with 4.58 40 speed and may be able to bulk up to play LB. Should be a beast on STs right away.

3. TE Billy Brown from Shepard - small school prospect who is a project. Played WR last year for Shepard. At the combine came in at 6'4 255 lbs and ran a 4.7 with 23 reps on the bench. As a receiver he dominated like you need at the lower level with with good big hands he had 99 catches for 1580 yards with 22 TDs last year. The year before he caught 89 for 1492 yards and 10 TDs. Will need work on being a TE and blocking, but as a receiver really showed well at the Shrine game running good routes and great hands.

4. OL Aviante Collins from TCU - He needs more mass to his 6'4 frame with 33 3/8th arms and 296 lbs he ran 4.81 in the 40 and benched 34 times. He has played mainly at RT where he started every game last year, but does have games at LT. I like his potential where if you can put 10-15 lbs on him he could start in the NFL. great feet and power.

5. CB Jeremy Cutrer from Middle Tenn - in a panic pick before I took Keointa Davis I took Cutrer instead of Jack Tocho. Cutrer has good skills though. At over 6'1 with good length I really like his ability to cover, to close on the ball, good ball skills, anticipates very well. He is light in the pants at 167 lbs, but was a very willing tackler. He played very well against Alabama and Missouri. I thought he was better than Erza Robinson.

Thought with your selection of Godchaux that you would not go for Stewart, who I was hoping to land as a UDFA. Also like your pick-up of Mathers. Had Henderson been selected by someone before I had a chance to post, Mathers would have been my back-up plan at RB. With Dixon's suspension, I wanted to land a RB.

Yup - about 5 rounds since he's been born. I get 8 weeks paid paternity leave with my company, and I added 2 weeks of vacation on top of that, so I have been off since the Masters started and am pulling daddy duty until June 20th. My mom will watch him once a week or so I can run errands and/or hit up the range/course. Also squeezed in a few rounds early weekend mornings. Handicap is down to a 3.5!

It is amazing that Henderson, Mathers, and Elijah Hood all made it to UDFA. Just shows how deep this RB class is. I felt good about RBs in every round after the 4th.
The 49ers are VERY happy with their haul!

#1 - Jamal Adams S LSU (immediate impact)
#2 - Pat Mahomes QB Texas Tech(BIG arm can learn behind Hoyer)
#3 - Carl Lawson DE Auburn (will help with pass rush)
#4A - Jake Butt TE Michigan (once healed will be a star)
#4B - Dawuane Smoot DE Illinois (no brainer at this spot)
#5A - Corn Elder CB Miami (under rated because of his height)
#5B - Aaron Jones RB Texas El Paso(perfect compliment to Hyde)
#6A - KD Cannon WR Baylor (a flyer to stretch the D)
#6B - Jermaine Eluemunor OG Texas A & M

I thought Adams was not worth the #2 pick, but I think he is a stud and what are you going to do without trades. After that great value on Lawson, Butt, and KD Cannon. I am a big fan of Aaron Jones also. I am not a fan of Dawuane Smoot at all, but the rest of your draft is solid to great. Nice job here.

This is a good draft here. Really like the Carlos Henderson pick and getting Hood in UDFA. Hood is a guy I would love the Giants to draft. He is just so talented. For my 6th round pick my 9 player board had it #1 Grover Stewart, #2 Xavier Woods (love this guy!), and #3 Elijah Hood. Hood is a perfect power back for what we run. Maybe it is the light blue uniforms and #34, but man he look Earl Campbell!! Just running over and through people at an alarming clip. Probably the one player I wish I would have drafted. His running power is amazing while also being good at pass protection and even catching. He is a player I really want on the Giants.
here is a gif of Elijah Hood

against #18 Georgia... You can just see his power and the way he keeps his legs churning.

I would have took hood in the 6th round had I not already drafted a RB

in the 2nd. Glad to nab him in UDFA

You skipped NYG27.

Ha, just saw that. According to Matt's list posted earlier on the thread I had pick 214. The 2 picks posted before I went said they were 212/213 so I just assumed I was up.
Suggested additional NYG camp invitees...
Big Blue Blogger : 4/24/2017 5:13 pm : link
...on the Andrew Adams/Mark Herzlich "feeder territory" plan:
Matt Milano OLB Boston College
Patrick Towles QB Boston College
Noel Thomas WR Connecticut
Tashawn Bower OLB LSU
Jerry Ugokwe OT William & Mary
Ezra Robinson CB Tennessee State
Lewis Neal DE LSU
Justin Vogel P Miami (Fla.)
Travin Dural WR LSU
*Al-Quadin Muhammad DE Miami (Fla.)
I'Tavius Mathers RB Middle Tennessee
Marquez Williams FB Miami (Fla.)
*Joseph Yearby RB Miami (Fla.)

In a similar vein, surprised that Jerry/Andy didn't jump on Keionta Davis, Jeremy Cutrer and Stacy Coley. (Farther afield, Elijah Hood, Corey Clement or Sam Rogers would have been nice too.)
I missed Hood
BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/24/2017 5:24 pm : link
I would much rather have him then Clemens. Picked up Rogers because he can help with special teams and can play multiple positions.

Stupid BBI mock drafts that are scared to taking QBs! I almost took Trubisky for the Raiders at 24 meaning I would be +22 right now because I knew he would never get that far. Nice drafting there and Adoree Jackson going that high was a shock to me. After you took him and I thought he said his only issue is he is a slot CB and you were like yeah and they play slot CBs on the field most of the game and I was that is a good point and he is going to be a great one there so it makes a lot of sense. Clearly they read out conversation!

Oh the Raiders... -X right now until Cam Robinson gets drafted
Think I did ok.
Boatie Warrant : 4/29/2017 11:29 am : link
Four of the 5 guys where draft 20+ picks before I got them.

*Mitch Trubisky QB North Carolina #2 (+23)
Taylor Moton OT Western Michigan #64 (-7)
Ahkello Witherspoon CB Colorado #66 (+23)
Kendell Beckwith ILB LSU #107 (+23)
Taywan Taylor WR Western Kentucky #72 (+70)
Rayshawn Jenkins FS Miami (Fla.) not drafted yet
So far for the Broncos

1) OT Ryan Ramczyk, WIS (Mock 20, Actual 32) -12
2) RB Alvin Kamara, TENN (Mock 52, Actual 67) -15
3) DT Dalvin Tomlinson, BAMA (Mock 82, Actual 55) +27
3c) TE Jordan Leggett, CLEM ( Mock 101, Actual XXX)
4) WR Carlos Henderson, LOUISTECH (Mock 126, Actual 82) +44
5c) LB Dylan Cole, MIZZ STATE (Mock 176, Actual XXX)
6) LB Jordan Evans, Oklahoma (Mock 202, Actual XXX)

UDFAs
QB Alek Torgersen, Penn
OL Collin Buchanan, Miami (OH)
RB Elijah Hood, UNC
LB Calvin Munson, SDSU
DE Noble Nwachukwu, WVU

I guessed on the wrong tackle for them.
Tomlinson & Henderson went 1+ rounds earlier than I took them, so that helped me make up some ground on my first two picks.

Currently sitting at +44, with a minus coming from Leggett once he gets picked
Final grade for my Denver draft:
