BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/2/2017 10:32 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Once again, I strongly encourage ALL GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

At the time the round starts

I think Fournette is the right pick

Give Bortles a shot and inject that ground game with some serious talent. Yeldon is a JAG.

So the 3rd Round order will reflect any trades involving 3rd round or later picks at the time 3rd Round starts? Just wanted to confirm, because if I have pick 99 rather than pick 74 that does alter my calculations about certain positions being available at certain points

Makes sense. And with Allen off the board, there isn't an obvious need-meets-value pick for Jacksonville. I see the objection about the pick being out of character for Coughlin, but I don't recall realism being a constraint in the BBI mock.

Yes... The round will lock when we get to it... Assuming no additional trades are made between now and then, you will have pick #74...
I don't love the pick
Ned In Atlanta : 4/5/2017 9:15 am : link
Think Tc would consider Solomon Thomas here? Know he loves depth at DL. I think Fournette will be great just think 4 is high for RB
Do we really need someone to say...

Why, yes. Yes they do.
I think the pick if the value was there
BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/5/2017 10:43 am : link
would be an OL, but sadly the crop is shit and that would be a reach

Now maybe he would go OJ Howard, to address some of the blocking and give Bortles another receiving option. Kills 2 birds with one stone.

I could see them taking OL in the second because that's where the value is.
Ned: The issue there would be resource allocation.

Depth is one thing. Adding the #4 pick to Fowler and Jack on the edge - not to mention the big contract they gave Campbell to anchor the line, and the remaining commitment to Jackson - might be overkill.

Yes, we do. It is part of the charm of the BBI Mock Draft. We are playing pretend here when you get down to it. Why not play up all things related to the real NFL Draft? Its fun.
Lol.

Ok.
Just FYI

two reminder emails have been sent to NYG27
TC took Fred Tayler at #7 years ago, when mocks were
yatqb : 4/5/2017 12:49 pm : link
initially saying that he was a 2nd rounder at best. So I could see TC going for Fournette.

Kevin's pick makes more sense in that context.
I know we didn't officially start yet

but surprised we're only four picks in. Matt was kind enough to send us all emails...

Me either. It doesn't take that long to periodically check BBI on your phone to see what pick we are up to now that the thread is pinned at the top of the board.

I think Taylor was the ninth pick in 1998, but that's still a good point. Also, Coughlin picked James Stewart at #19 three years earlier - the second draft choice he ever made, after Boselli.
Coughlin built some really good teams in Jacksonville
Go Terps : 4/5/2017 4:28 pm : link
He had some physical monsters on those teams. The Henderson/Stroud combo in the middle of the defense was scary.

Count me surprised and disappointed too. Some of the owners at the top of the list have been on BBI, they couldn't possibly have missed these threads.
BBB, thanks for the correction.

Been tied up at work
NYG27 : 4/5/2017 5:17 pm : link
Will get in the Titans pick within the hour.
I wanted to draft OJ Howard with the Titans 18th overall pick
NYG27 : 4/5/2017 5:33 pm : link
but honestly, I don't see Howard dropping that far.

With Delanie Walker turning 33 years old in August and only signed till next year, OJ Howard would be the perfect compliment. Both Walker and Howard would be killer for two TE formations and giving Marcus Mariota more weapons in the passing game.
Left the BPA

on the board, but Lattimore is a no brainer here. With Revis gone and holes all over, the Jets get a young, lock down corner who can be a cornerstone of that D for 10 years.

Not even a little bit. Think I'll have a good chance of someone in the 2nd.
Chargers take Solomon Thomas
armstead98 : 4/5/2017 10:34 pm : link
I was expecting to take Malik Hooker but Thomas was too good to pass up. Thomas and Bosa provide the best young DEs in the league.

Definitely value over need here.

Makes sense depending on how you had both of them ranked. I personally don't have Thomas on a higher tier than Hooker, but if you do I can see why you did what you did.

On a separate matter, hopefully we can pick up the pace a bit.

And will be out of pocket the rest of the day... But I will send reminder emails to the next 5 GMs or so to hopefully keep the ball rolling...

If there is someone I can send my picks to just in case FatMan doesnt make his in the next two hours, pleas let me know...

Thanks

the Panthers were thinking they could grab one of 4 guys and all were off the board at 8. John Ross provides speed, but that's a reach at #8.

I was afraid that Cincy would take Williams to pair with Green but in the end I get my man!!! Welcome to Buffalo Mike Williams!!!
Was really tempted to take Mitchell Trubisky to sit behind Drew Bree's
Saos1n : 4/6/2017 9:02 am : link
For a few years or Malik Hooker, due to pure talent but I couldn't pass up on bringing the hammer to a defense that needs an identity...
On the field, I liked Foster more than any Alabama LB under Saban...
Matt G : 4/6/2017 9:13 am : link
But he scares me a bit off the field... Not that I haven't rolled the dice before ;) But after I saw that he signed with Malki Kawa... He's bad news, IMO...
Now we are cooking with Crisco!
Mike in NY : 4/6/2017 9:27 am : link
4 picks before mine with 4 players on my short list. It is going to be tight unless one of the upcoming teams helps me out. Should be around today so when I get on the clock I will try to make my pick promptly.
In real life..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/6/2017 9:34 am : link
if the Panthers are faced with this same draft board, I think they would go with Foster, especially with Thomas Davis getting older and Kuechley's concussion history, but if they had outside speed (like a consistent Ted Ginn), that's going to be valuable too.
I think it is a fair pick for Carolina
English Alaister : 4/6/2017 9:50 am : link
Ross will definitely give Cam and the current receivers more space to operate
This feels like a deep draft at the top now that I'm
NoGainDayne : 4/6/2017 10:51 am : link
Seeing it unfold especially. No QBs taken, Hooker still out there. Even Ross who you might see as a little high is a good fit for the panthers and a guy I definitely like more than darrius heyward bey who went at 7
Tough pick here for Cleveland

Not wild about these QBs and some top 10 talent still sitting here at other positions.

Do like Marc Ross and flip a coin. Or have Mara make a pick from the Kentucky Derby.
Couldnt pass on the best player available
Lionhart28 : 4/6/2017 11:56 am : link
(without character flags)

and that's Hooker. Kid has unbelievable, range, instincts and ball skills. I can't wait to see this kid as a pro. Didn't play a whole lot at OSU, but my goodness can he do it all. The first step in turning around Cleveland's abysmal pass defense.

Shhhh, don't jinx it.

Interesting thing about this draft is that there are some good teams who need a QB...

Arizona, Denver, Houston. Arguably NYG, Pittsburgh, KC, New Orleans
