BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/2/2017 10:32 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Once again, I strongly encourage ALL GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

Didn't Cleveland Have A 'Hooker' Previously?
Trainmaster : 4/6/2017 1:14 pm : link
If I recall correctly, they had "Fair Hooker", which led to one of my favorite Dandy Dan Meredith's lines, "Fair Hooker; I've never met one." Or something like that.

Shhhh, don't jinx it.

Interesting thing about this draft is that there are some good teams who need a QB...

Arizona, Denver, Houston. Arguably NYG, Pittsburgh, KC, New Orleans

I am the GM for Pittsburg... I might be interested in the top QB if he is still there especially because Ben Roethlisberger is threatening retirement.
I am sure Cleveland has plenty of Hookers
Lionhart28 : 4/6/2017 1:36 pm : link
What a gross play though...

I just wish that Arizona would make a decision

Ultimately went with Corey Davis as I may be able to get a QB later on

He was on my short list (along with Hooker) when I posted that there were 4 names on my list. Hooker-Player X-Davis-Player Y
I have 3 players in my top 11 left, but
Amtoft : 4/6/2017 2:03 pm : link
they will be gone and it gets muddy after that. Honestly as players come off... If a top QB doesn't get taken I may take one. Would be crazy to see that happen though.
Thank you Chris
Mike in NY : 4/6/2017 3:13 pm : link
By making the selection that you did it guarantees that Player X and/or Player Y will make it to me
I had 4 players...
Chris in Philly : 4/6/2017 3:16 pm : link
that I was weighing for this pick. One I expected to be gone, but I don't necessarily think he would be the best fit. One I think would be a good fit but has some baggage, and one I think is a great prospect but will be a lesser pro than Conley. Conley is the kind of CB the Eagles have historically liked and Schwartz will want. The Eagles have nothing at the position now and Conley will start from day one.
The Colts are just a brutal franchise
Go Terps : 4/6/2017 4:07 pm : link
Take a look at their depth chart...hideous. This is a team with absolutely no direction.

I really thought about taking Dalvin Cook, but the off field stuff is scary.

Drafting a whole bunch of fast WR's and nothing else will do that to you. Nice pick with Humphrey though. Had the 4 highest rated players on my board gone in the 4 picks before mine then my fallback was probably going to be Humphrey
Ravens pick is in
Mike in NY : 4/6/2017 4:19 pm : link
I knew when John Ross and Mike Williams both went in the Top 10 that Corey Davis was not going to fall to me. Ravens are in need of edge rushers on Defense for their 3-4 scheme so I was happy to land Barnett
3 of the 4...
Chris in Philly : 4/6/2017 4:36 pm : link
players I was looking at were Conley, Humphrey, and Barnett. I went with the one that I think is the player they would really pick.

My question to you is if you knew he would be the pro that Jackrabbit has become (remember he dropped in the draft due to off the field issues, and has not had any issues since joining the league [knock on wood]) would you still not pick Cook?
BigBlue
Go Terps : 4/6/2017 5:24 pm : link
If I knew before the fact that a guy with a checkered past would succeed, then yeah I would draft him. But we don't know it with Cook one way or the other.

Why take the risk when there are similarly talented players without the baggage also available?

Then coming around with my 18th overall pick to address the defense with perhaps the most athletically gifted pass rusher in the draft with Haason Reddick!

I do not think it means what they think it means.

Nice work by all GMs so far. Hard to argue with any of the picks, though I'm not sure I understand CiP's logic with Conley over Humphrey.

Apparently, Dalvin Cook at 23 isn't so far-fetched after all. Does he offer enough "special" for NYG to look past his medical and legal issues if he's still on the board?
No secret Broncos need a LT, but there is other talent on the board

I think the Eagles view Conley as a higher upside guy, he's been skyrocketing up charts, and there is a lot of smoke around here about them being very interested in him. Like I said, when I have a handful of choices I try to do what I think the team would really do.

OL are almost always undervalued. I fall into some great picks almost every year (Unger, Solder, Frederick, Iupati, Collins*, Stanley, etc). Looks like I will have my pick of top OL's again despite the teams yet to pick having a clear need at OL.

Good old Andy, blowing smoke to distract us from his inability to resist a Miami TE if the draft gods offer one up at #23.

Seriously, though - all of the top linemen in this class seem to have issues that would justify steering clear of them in the first half of Round One. Do you see the next Tyron Smith on the board?

I think Bolles has that upside. If not for the fact that the Ravens took Stanley at #6 last year and the fact that Barnett was there with my pick, Bolles would have merited serious consideration for the Ravens.
add QB to the position that
DCPollaro : 4/7/2017 9:47 am : link

Personally, I like to take a detailed look at my team's depth roster
NYG27 : 4/7/2017 9:55 am : link
I don't like to force a pick and go with BPA but if there are a few players I think are ranked equally, I lean towards what would help with my team needs.

That's the direction I went with my Titans selections.

I was thinking that as well. No way do the Jets come up to pick with all the Qbs on the board and not chose the top rated guy. That's just how they would pick because they are clueless.

You may like Bolles in the top half of the first round, and that's fine, but very few mocks would have him gone by now. I don't see anything happening in this draft to O Linemen that isn't reflected in almost all credible online mocks I've seen

So I went back to look at the combine for both Reddick and Garrett. What freak athletes in totally different bodies.

Event (Pos. Rank) MG HR
Ht- 6'4" | 6'1"
Wt- 272 | 237
Arms- 35 1/4" | 32 3/4
40- 4.64(5) | 4.52(1)
Vert- 41(1) | 36.5(3)
Broad- 10'8"(2) | 11'1"(1)
Bench- 33(2) | 24(<15)
S-Shuttle- - | 4.37(10)
3-cone- - | 7.01(7)

Those are some damned explosive athletes. It doesn't look like Garrett did the shuttles or 3 cone. I'd be curious about his results at that size.

defensive side of the ball, but the truth is that Ramczyk was just too good of a fit for Denver to pass up.

New coach Vance Joseph is implementing more of a power blocking scheme, so Ramczyk is a better fit than Bolles. We see Bolles as a better fit for a team that uses a zone blocking scheme.
Jay on the Island: Nice pick (Takk McKinley).

Clear need, decent value. Minor question: Why McKinley over Charlton? Not disagreeing, just wondering about your preference for one over the other.
A bit of draft trivia, inspired by the selection of Ramczyk at #20:
Big Blue Blogger : 4/7/2017 12:18 pm : link
Twenty years have passed since no quarterback was selected in the first round of the NFL draft. How bad was the QB class of 1997? Mike Cherry was the fifth quarterback to come off the board, to the Giants at #171. His career comprised four kneel-downs, a sack and an incompletion.

BTW, Ramczyk is a good pick for Denver. The question there is whether any member of the 2017 QB class would offer a likely upgrade over Siemian/Lynch.

Don't count your Trubiskies just yet, Houston. Miami can move on from Tannehill pretty painlessly in 2018.
Actually, meant to say twenty years since no QB in the top 20.

Druckenmiller was the 26th pick in 1997. The previous year, the first QB taken was Tony Banks at #42.
