BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/2/2017 10:32 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Once again, I strongly encourage ALL GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

It would be Cook or bust for me at this point... I'd give up a third or fourth to move up ahead of Detroit. Not so worried about Miami.. feel like Detroit might take our guy. Cook is the real fucking deal. If one of those top 3 RBs fall this far I would love to see us jump on them unless they really like a few guys at this point, knowing they will get one of their guys staying pat at 23.

Don't count your Trubiskies just yet, Houston. Miami can move on from Tannehill pretty painlessly in 2018.

True, but still plenty of options at my positionS of need.
Indeed Cook was too tempting to pass on
YAJ2112 : 4/7/2017 1:55 pm : link
Was between him, Taco, and Njoku. Detroit's strength needs to be their offense, and they desparately need a playmaking RB to bring their offense to the next level.

Great Pick.. best one so far IMO
I was just scouting
Amtoft : 4/7/2017 2:15 pm : link
Forrest Lamp for my pick at 24. I think he can play OT. I know the talk about his arms, but I look at it this way. He is in between Joe Thomas and Justin Pugh at LT. He has slightly longer arms than Pugh and slightly shorter than Thomas. He is slightly fast than Pugh and slightly slower than Thomas. I think Pugh was ok at OT not horrible and worst case Lamp can slide into OG and excel there. That being said I think he is the third best LT prospect in this draft. Not sold on him only being an OG.
Giants On The Clock
Trainmaster : 4/7/2017 2:16 pm : link
who is "best available"?

Lamp was a no-brainer for me and the Fish at 22.
Optimus-NY : 4/7/2017 2:18 pm : link
Lamp is a "clean" player to use a Reese-ism. The guy is the best overall OL prospect in this year's draft. Hes technically sound, mature, young (lol at Grampa Bolles), versatile and intent on being a true professional (he's a film junkie). What's not to like? He also fits a YUUUUGE need for the Fish at 22 with regard to need. They have two good OTs and a fine Center. They're in desperate need of quality at the OG position. Lamp fulfills that need, and some.

There are a number of players who I would probably rank similarly still on the board. Not sure Andy can go wrong with any of them.

QB?
TE?
OL?
CB?

Hmmmm...
Amtoft : 4/7/2017 2:25 pm : link
does that mean the Raiders with Carr already at QB take Mitch Trubisky? I mean no way he lasts this long and I would look like a genius when he gets picked top 10... Of course unless I trade Carr or Trubisky this pick wouldn't make any sense. Then again I don't want someone taking him and getting the credit of a good pick this late... Hmmmm what to do.
Pretty good spot for the Giants to be in
Jon in NYC : 4/7/2017 2:29 pm : link
if this actually came through. Bolles, Njoku, Mahomes, and Cunningham all on the board. I honestly think I'd go Mahomes, but could justify any of the above 4.

Mahomes over Trubisky? Come on man!

because he is the top non QB on my board. If you want to fix the running game... take Cam Robinson.

Yup, just plug him in next to Shockey and KW II. Unstoppable!

Back to reality...

BPA on most draftnik boards would be Trubisky: #12 on CBS, #11 on GBN, #10 on nfl.com). After that, there's Watson Watson (17/17/35), Njoku (20/24/13), Charlton (24/26/12) and McDowell (23/31/17), among others.

In the actual draft I think he's on the board when the Giants pick.
I'm shocked. Shocked!!!

Njoku to the Giants. Andy being Andy.

Honestly, it's a good pick, though I'd have taken Charlton.
I would have ran to the podium to draft Cook
Andy in Halifax : 4/7/2017 3:06 pm : link
but Njoku is a nice TE prospect and we sure as f#@k need one of those. Kid would thrive down the seam in our offense (imo).

Who knows as they may prefer the local guy in Pat Mahomes Jr. or the more pro ready Deshaun Watson. There are plenty of other non-QB's who would make sense for Houston although I will refrain from naming names as some of them are players I like!
My top two for the Giants there were...
Torrag : 4/7/2017 4:11 pm : link
...Davis, Njoku and Watson in the top remaining row.
Went with Cam Robinson...
Amtoft : 4/7/2017 4:23 pm : link
I had 3 players I was looking at. Trubisky who is very accurate and apparently very underrated. With Carr being so young I just couldn't pull the trigger though. Someone is going to get a steal with him.

The other pick I was looking at was LT Bolles. It isn't so much his age that bothers me, but that he needs to really work on his strength. I don't think I could put him at RT this year and have him be as successful as Cam Robinson would be. However, long term Bolles would have taken over for Penn in a year or 2 so I am probably making a mistake. Bolles has great feet and if he was 23 with a little more time working on his strength he is a top 10 pick easy.

Cam Robinson is either underrated, being knocked down because of Fluker, or the criminal stuff is scaring people away. If he gets a hold of you... you are going for a ride!

Robinson scares me because the footwork is sloppy like Flowers. He can overpower guys in college, but that won't work in the NFL. Also has concerns about effort.
Sorry I'm late
Glover : 4/7/2017 5:03 pm : link
but 2 of the 3 teams ahead of the Giants taking O Linemen I think is a reflection of the very popular BBI idea that there are no first round linemen who are worth the 23rd pick, and thats what Giants fans here want to happen. Also a lot of defensive players drafted. I love Njoku, but here better be an O lineman who can compete for a job in the second round they have their eyes on.
that can compete for a job in the second round ...
Torrag : 4/7/2017 5:21 pm : link
...there are several. Dawkins, Moton, Dorian Johnson, Feeney. 3rd round. Roderick Johnson, Antonio Garcia, Pocic. Frankly I don't see much difference between these guys and the purported '1st Rounders' this year.
Sorry for the delay
Boatie Warrant : 4/7/2017 8:52 pm : link
Was out for duaghters birthday dinner.

Trubisky was an easy choice. Texans don't need Rodgers, Farve, Young or Brees; They need a Simms. Consistant and a competitor. A guy who is even-keeled.
Seattle's pick is in
sjnyfan : 4/7/2017 9:29 pm : link
OL would've been the obvious choice but I couldn't pass on King. This is the prototypical Seattle CB. Tall, long arms and he has speed with freakish measurables, another Seahawk staple. LOB hasn't been the same since Browner left and with Schneider being so open with Sherman being on the block, I had to make this move. However WITH Sherman and a healthy Earl Thomas back, LOB would be back.

King wouldn't have to go far from college. He also has allowed only 1 TD in the past 28 games with none given up last year.

KC is on the clock

King does seem like someone the Seahawks would target and makes sense late in Round 1. I also thought the UConn S would be someone that Seattle could target. Now with KC up it will be interested to see if they grab Mahomes or Watson and let that QB sit behind Alex Smith, add some youth at LB with Charlton, Cunningham, and Davis all on the board, or go in a totally different direction.
Emailed KC

And I have DAL's pick...
Chiefs
English Alaister : 4/8/2017 6:19 am : link
Take the LB Cunningham from Vanderbilt. Thought about Watson at QB but Smith still has a lot of tread left and maybe his best football to come.

Cunningham gives the Chiefs an athletic play-making LB to take over from Derrick Johnson and let Houston worry about going forward.

unfortunately, I don't have time to write much more than CB is where I wanted to go and Awuzie fits the bill very well.

BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/8/2017 8:12 am : link
Pittsburgh after losing Lawerence Timmons to FA and having an aging James Harrison needs to reload their outside LBs. Williams is a great pass rusher when used to do so. I could have went CB or S as the Steelers could use the help there; however, the Steelers are like the Giants they rely heavy upon a pass rush to generate coverage sacks and this draft is loaded with CBs, though it seems there has been a run on them in our draft.

Williams is a pass rusher, but the off field questions concern me
I seriously considered McDowell for the Pack
MadPlaid : 4/8/2017 1:19 pm : link
But kept reading things about immaturity and laziness. I felt he was too much of a risk. When I read about Awuzie, I liked what was being said about his versatility and effectiveness in coverage. They said he was capable of starting right away. Perfect for Green Bay
Interesting selection of Kizer

Really tough call on
NoGainDayne : 4/8/2017 1:43 pm : link
McDowell. All the talent in the world. You just hope for maturation. A guy like Vic Beasley could be a great mentor to him and an improved Falcons line with McDowell playing up to his potential makes a team that's tough to beat even scarier.

I do... Trubisky #1 and Kizer #2...

5th year option on a QB was an important factor for this selection as well...

Let him sit behind Brees and soak up all the knowledge
I don't see it with Kizer

All the potential in the world but I didn't see him make as many plays as I would like for a early round QB. My personal rankings are Watson, Trubisky, Mahomes, Kizer.
