BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/2/2017 10:32 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Once again, I strongly encourage ALL GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible.

With so many picks
Lionhart28 : 4/8/2017 7:05 pm : link
Cleveland is gonna have to work really hard to fuck this up. If they followed
T guidance they could have had a threesome of Derek Carr, Allen Robinson and Jeremy Hill. But oh well
Just my opinion, but after round 1
SirYesSir : 4/8/2017 8:23 pm : link
I'd make these comments

Best Value: Taco Charlton, pick 28 to Dallas. Maybe I think more of him than most, but he had a really great year and there aren't many guys with his combo of size/speed/power in this draft. I would think a team would be thrilled to get a guy like him that late.

Biggest Reach: With all due respect, just my opinion, but Takk McKinley to the Bucs at 19. Impressive athlete, but has very little feel for the game or skills other than raw ability. In the Sunday league he won't be able to get by on natural skills, and I don't see him making an impact until he learns some moves and techniques he should have learned by now.

Biggest Surprise: Jabrill Peppers to the Bengals at pick 9. That's really high for a safety, but even more surprising that his position might not really be set yet. He only has one career interception. As a GM I'd have a hard time hanging my hat on a guy that can do a lot of things pretty well, but is probably most admired as a kick returner.

Sorry if that sounded negative, all the GMs are doing a great job - just my initial reactions
Don't like Watson
BigBlueDownTheShore : 4/8/2017 8:41 pm : link
I love his character, but he's got way to many red flags. He comes from a gimmick uptempo offense, lacks arm strength, and throws way to many pics.

Again I really hope I am wrong because he is someone you can root for.

He's definitely not without warts but I'm not worried about his arm strength. He can make throws. In a wset coast offense, with his movement skills and intangibles he could be good. Most of these kids today run up tempo offenses, some more gimmicky than others. they all have some learning to do. Mahomes especially on that front . He also has a lot more games played and wins than Trubisky.. happy to get a player like him in the 2nd after two defensive studs.
49ers pick is in and
Pete from Woodstock : 4/9/2017 7:12 am : link
years from now Mahomes has a good chance of being the best quarterback of the class. Although he is difficult to figure out, he has, by far, the strongest arm of those four and a skill set relatable to some of the best quarterbacks in the league. He kind of reminds me of Derek Carr. Both have arguably the best arms in their respective classes. They can launch rockets deep down field, or they can loft throws with touch over the shoulder of their receivers in stride. That’s a skill the 49ers lacked with Colin Kaepernick. He’s raw, to be sure, but makes sense for a team with a coaching staff that’s experienced developing quarterbacks.
We are very excited to have Pat sit behind Brian Hoyer and learn the NFL game.

The Jaguars are shocked and happy to see Bolles
Kevin in CT : 4/9/2017 10:51 am : link
Still available for their pick in the 2nd round. Value here was way too good to pass up and he can start right away. Plays with a nasty side that Coughlin will love and Bortles too.

Happy to see him pushed down after the run on QB's. Jags are excited to potentially have two starters on the offensive side of the ball with their first two picks.

Figured you would go for Bolles or one of the LB's available. Bolles should not have been around at this point.

I wanted him for the Bears. Bears have no good OTs so Bolles would've been perfect for them. Still, I'm happy with Tre'Davious White who I project to be a future starter at CB but at they very least can be a fantastic nickel right away.
Jags first two picks are great
superspynyg : 4/9/2017 12:16 pm : link
Instant running game to open the passing game and a solid RT (at the least) for the next 8-10 years. Could also develop into a great LT.
I strongly considered Bolles for ATL
NoGainDayne : 4/9/2017 12:50 pm : link
But the defense is what kept them from winning the Super Bowl so I went with the sky high ceiling defender. Also considered White from LSU but to me his ceiling was too low to be a first round pick although he will be a good nickle corner.
As for biggest steal I love Hooker at 12
NoGainDayne : 4/9/2017 12:57 pm : link
I'm a big hooker guy. I think you can coach up his tackling issues and the guy just has a nose for the ball and great closing speed.

As for the reach. I'll probably eat these words because Chris in Philly always does a great job but I thought Conley went a little high.

NGd, I agree on Hooker. I see him as a rare prospect at FS. Unreal instincts, range and ball skills. I didn't expect him to be available at 12, no brainer for me.

FatMan in Charlotte : 4/9/2017 3:54 pm : link
although I'm not liking the way the draft has unfolded for the Panthers. They really could've used Cunningham, but he's gone and although Alvin Kamara is an option at RB, they don't feel he can carry a heavy workload and would be best suited in a platoon scenario.

So Foreman is the guy - but probably about 20 picks too early. Same with Ross in the 1st - but they now have two playmakers.

Landing Garrett and Hooker is amazing. For a Browns draft that is loaded with picks, that's still a crazy haul. Add Watson at 33...

and pick up a versatile bruiser to help protect Carson Wentz. The OL is in need of a rebuild and this guy is where we begin. He'll be a dominant guard, but he'll be tried outside as well to see where he fits best at the next level. Once he has his position, he's a ten year starter.

It's landing Hooker that puts it over the top. Hooker is a top 3-5 talent. Watson at 33 is also a huge value.

Like I said, even with all the picks, these particular ones are impressive.

Makes sense. We just hired Joe Douglas to help run the draft so our draft boards must be similar!

It really is amazing how Temple has blossomed with real prospects. I hope they can keep it up post-Ruhle.

Buffalo has the ability to take a chance on a first round talent.

After talking to Dr Robert Anderson who performed Jones's surgery, and to our own medical staff, we a confident that this young man will return to play at a high level. We will not rush him back and will announce the singing of a FA Cb to fill in for this season.

We are building for the future not just 2017. Its not often you can get a first round top 10 player in rd 2. He is worth the chance.

My pick is ready

Have narrowed my list down to 2 players so I should be good no matter who Indianapolis selects. That being said, have a new client scheduled to come in at 11 and if one my colleagues has not arrived by then I may be stuck having to start that so I will be a little delayed with my pick if GoTerps takes the entire allotted time

Just send your two picks (in order to MattG) if you are not able then he can make it based on the order and if both are there.

I would except for the fact that the second guy on my list is someone I probably like more than the consensus and there is an off chance he will be around with my pick at 74. As a result, I do not want to put it out there who I like. Let's just say there is a gap after my first player with a number of players that I think are comparable to what I can get at their respective positions in Round 3 so if my first guy is gone I would prefer to overdraft a personal sleeper than go with the consensus
Indianapolis's pick expires in less than 10 minutes
Mike in NY : 4/10/2017 10:53 am : link
Although they took a CB in Round 1, they have so many needs at DB that I cannot see any reason to bypass the top player on the GBN list (Obi Melifonwu/SS/Connecticut) as is the rules of the Mock Draft for a missed pick
Interesting to note that Melifonwu dropped a bit on the GBN Board.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/10/2017 11:22 am : link
He's now #43 on Colin's list, which would put him behind several players still available:
26. LB Jarrad Davis
34. QB Davis Webb
36. RB Joe Mixon
38. CB *Adoree Jackson
40. TE Evan Engram

Melifonwu is still a reasonable pick.

Because Colin's board is subject to change, Matt freezes the list at the one in effect when initial post is made which is in the spreadsheet.

Thanks. Armstead98's selection post was so understated (amidst all the gifs and jpgs) that I missed it completely.

As for the GBN list being locked, that's understood. I just think it's interesting how fluid the board can be, considering that there isn't a lot of new information coming in. UConn's Pro Day was over two weeks ago, and by all accounts Melifonwu looked really good. So the slippage seems sort of random. I guess draftniks like Colin are still gathering input from NFL personnel and rounding out their own tape review.
