Grandy day off

So, Granderson is a healthy scratch.
Lineup is getting better....
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 3:57 pm : link
Duda still is and will always be better than Bruce. He's even having a better season right now even after Bruce's insane start. Reyes should hit 8th. He's a slightly above league average bat. At best he's probably going to give you a wRC+ of 105-110. That's if everything goes perfectly. Dont get me wrong, that's fine for the 8th hole but that's where he should be. Today I would have went...

Conforto
Cabrera
Cespedes
Duda
TDA
Bruce
Walker
Reyes

Wheeler pitching, not Harvey btw
Still have major doubts
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 3:59 pm : link
about Conforto being able to play CF but he hasn't killed us yet.

Cespedes graded out as one of the worst CF in baseball when he was there and I have a feeling Conforto would be worse. Time will tell.

Really? What is giving you doubts? I mean, he can't be any worse than what Granderson is doing in CF...which isn't much (not his fault, he's hasn't been a starting CFer in a long time). I think his defense has been better than people give it credit for.
I just think he's a bigger dude and has zero experience there...
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 4:40 pm : link
When he came out his scouting reports said he would be below average in "left field". He has proven some doubters wrong and he lost some weight this offseason so maybe that helps... I just don't see many transitioning to CF well with the initial profile he had. Cespedes is a gold glover in LF and uber athletic but he sucks in CF. Grandy has played 80% of his career in CF and still moves pretty well and he's below average(although much better than RF where his arm is exposed more). Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for Conforto just skeptical until I see him out there more.

Last night was the first time in Mets history that three players had four hits each in a nine inning game (Cespedes, Cabrera, Duda).
Worth mentioning on this thread too...

Metnut : 4/12/2017 4:51 pm : link
seen in 2017 shows that Granderson doesn't move well at all in CF at this age. Grandy has been one of our better bats for a few years now, so hopefully he'll get it going but sharp and sudden declines often happen at his age.

Hopefully Conforto can take this job and run with it. Neither Granderson nor Bruce should play if they aren't hitting.

He actually graded positively in CF last year in a small sample and is again this year (even smaller sample). Of course he was horrid in RF last year.
Would have liked to see Rivera or Flores

was literally getting into shouting matches with callers yesterday about Conforto because he was saying with reyes struggling Granderson is the only one who can lead off.

Someone said you can use conforto like the cubs use schwarber in the non traditional lead off role.

Mike got into a big tizzy about it and said the mets would never use Conforto as a leadoff hitter.

Flash forward to today...conforto is leading off

Mike is so dumb
I believe

TC stated from another manager (hurdle, leyland?), instead of reshuffling a lineup for one guy, just replace the guy in that spot.
I wouldn' t mind seeing Rosario

starting at SS or even 3B in place of Reyes by August

agree. gotta give some playing time to Rivera and Flores.. it's a long stretch without off days.
Reyes
Vanzetti : 4/12/2017 5:54 pm : link
As much as I hate to say it, Jose might be done as an everyday player.

Terry is going to give him plenty of rope because that's what he does with vets and he also loves Reyes and knows how much the "real" Jose Reyes could help this team.

So, we will see what happens. Jose is one of my all-time favorite Mets. I'd love to see him and David win a ring in orange and blue.

well the season is long
spike : 4/12/2017 5:57 pm : link
TC will at least give him a couple of months to fail
Reyes deserves at least 30 games otherwise
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 6:25 pm : link
Why start him in the first place? Every player in our lineup was cold for 30 days last year. It's just magnified because it's at the beginning of the season. That said Reyes, even for his career, is a league average bat. He really should probably hit 8th regardless.
Glad to see Conforto in the lineup.
Don in DC : 4/12/2017 6:40 pm : link
Regarding Reyes, he looked a bit better last night than he was. Hoping he will heat up with the weather.

Will you please fucking play Conforto, TC?
Saying this in another thread...
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 8:02 pm : link
Grandy and Bruce are both streaky ass players. Assuming Sandy decides he has to make a spot for Conforto (might happen eventually) do you trade Bruce while his value is high to make a spot or trade Grandy while his value is low to make a spot?
.
arcarsenal : 4/12/2017 8:04 pm : link
I understand everyone wants MC to be in the lineup... I do, too. But what's the solution? Bruce is on fire right now.. so it's not like the easy answer is to just bench him.
What's funny to me is that 90% of MMO
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 8:08 pm : link
is screaming to trade Grandy and keep Bruce and Conforto return be damned. 2 weeks ago everyone wanted Bruce burned at the stake. It's amazing to me how emotional and reactionary people are from 10 days of baseball. We all know Grandy will heat up at some point and Bruce will suck at points this year. lol
At some point Bruce will go cold
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/12/2017 8:09 pm : link
It's dangerous to have three guys in the lineup that run as hot and cold as Duda, Bruce, and Granderson.
Ok I know I am seemingly geeking out every day lately...
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 8:09 pm : link
But Wheeler's delivery looks much smoother. I havent read much about it anywhere but others are saying its definitely been changed. The inverted W isnt as severe and he looks much less violent. Im not seeing the hitches I used to. This version of Wheeler is looking good.
It's just a tough situation...
arcarsenal : 4/12/2017 8:10 pm : link
It's hard to blame the Mets or Collins here.. there's really no easy solution.
I think you listen to phone calls and set the bar high and sell high
ZGiants98 : 4/12/2017 8:15 pm : link
If teams dont want to give Sandy what he wants, stay put for now. Eventually somebody might cave. If we get towards the deadline I think you get more aggressive starting Conforto every day. Ill be much more lenient of Bruce or Granderson coming off the bench if its towards the end of the year because you almost need to start preparing for next year at that point and your best players need to play period in the postseason. That's also assuming Conforto is better than Bruce and Granderson at that point. It's not an easy fix though.
Conforto

I'm not blaming anyone for MC not starting. I know it's a tough
PhiPsi125 : 4/12/2017 8:23 pm : link
situation. But Granderson should be the odd man out here. I love Curtis but he should be the one losing ABs. I'm fairly confident that MC is the better player in the field and at the plate. I just hate the way they've handled MC from day one.

If the Mets don't blow this, Mets will be 42-18 since start of 2014 season against Philadelphia. Phillies are definition of punching bags.
