I would not be shocked at all

if Stanton is traded this year at the deadline.

This is the last cheap year for him at $14.5M.

He then goes to $25M for 2018 $26M for 2019 and 2020 and then $29M for 2021 and 2022 then three years at $32M and then when he's 36 it starts ramping back down.

for a guy who can't stay healthy.

He does have an opt out after 2020 which the way these deals go, he'll finally put together a monster season in 2020 at 30 years old and opt out for a bigger deal.

Read that line a few times. And it makes you realize how pathetic it is that MLB has let Loriaull the shit he's pulled all this time. So sad.

"If both players were to hit the open market today, Harper would probably still land the bigger contract. But the question isn’t the no-brainer it might’ve been just two months ago. Yes, Harper is the bigger name and has a more established track record as one of the best players in baseball, but Machado is quickly closing the gap between them. The disparity between Machado and Harper isn’t as big as it was just 365 days ago and it’s hard to discount the impact the Orioles star brings to the game with his glove at two positions where young offensive stars aren’t growing on trees.

Given how much money is rumored to be on the table — potentially the first two $500 million contracts in American sports history — the chances are pretty strong both Machado and Harper hit the open market following the 2018 season. And if Manny Machado continues to improve offensively at the clip at which he’s been moving the last few years, the Orioles third baseman could be receiving an even larger payday than his fellow young baseball prodigy."
Got it. Machado is getting

3 times what Cespedes got and will get a 10-12 year deal. It's a 100% lock.

We know your stance.

I dont even have one. We'll see.
It'll be interesting
Metnut : 4/13/2017 3:47 pm : link
to see what he (and Harper) end up getting. Talents like this (at these ages) havn't really hit FA in a while. I'd think Machado would get something like 10yr/$300M at the lower bound but could be even higher.

There's so many teams that could bid for him. Even Atlanta and Philly might want to make a splash at that point.

I've read/heard nothing but AWFUL stories regarding Loria and Samson. If the Marlins played in NY and were run the same way it would be NON-STOP. I know nothing about baseball interest in Miami (I've actually never met a Marlins fan) but those who exist deserve better.

Once the break passes, I'd say any and every Marlin is available.

Bookmark this. The caveat being injury/decline. Assuming he's still "Machado" he will get triple Cespedes. 100% quote me.
And personally...
ZGiants98 : 4/13/2017 3:49 pm : link
If Machado is getting 400 million it's a waste. He's not some uber bat like Harper or Trout have shown....at least not yet. He's turned in one wRC+ 130s season. Most of his value is tied to his defense and that's not lasting 10-12 years.
If

Wright shockingly retired I'd make a call on Prado. I think he'd be perfect.

obviously can't account for injuries. Didn't see David Wright going from MVP caliber to what he's become.

Juan Lagares activated from the DL. Paul Sewald optioned to @LasVegas51s #mets
Loris is a shit, but a businessman
Shecky : 4/13/2017 3:53 pm : link
So you kind of expect it.
Samson, he's truly a unique individual...

Sports in Miami is a real tough sell. But youth baseball is HUGE in South Florida, so you have a young base to begin with. Then look at the crowds for the WBC this year - an INSANE baseball hungry Cuban, PR and DR population. Regular season games - no one cares. Second home game of the year and vs the Braves (large Braves fan base prior to Marlins) - and if there were 13-14k there, I'd be surprised. Really, really pathetic.

Comforts with the last second, short term reprieve.

brings up a valid question... why activate Lagares today if you aren't going to start him? Wouldn't the extra arm help for todays game?

I've wanted them to get Prado for 2 years just so he can't stop beating us at the end of games. But seriously he's the exact type of guy this lineup needs.

Yeah but he's not starting tonight so why not wait a day? Defense in CF late in games is more important tonight than an extra arm? Seems kinda silly timing wise.

It was more than that. Lengthens bench with an extra pinch hitter, pinch runner, and defensive replacement vs a super extended bullpen. Legates isn't starting because he needed the day off.
