Raanan-Hankins was looking for $15 million PER YEAR!

Vin_Cuccs : 4/12/2017 9:43 pm
4 years, $28M. Right in line with what I was hearing of $6-7M. And yes, I heard $15M per year asking price as well at start of FA. #Giants

This is Raanan responding to the new info on the Hankins contract offer. I thought this deserved it's own thread.

That is an insane contract demand!

....this doesn't seems like it is out of character from them.

I hope the rest of the NFL has taken note. This entire situation has been an absolute joke from day one. I honestly can't remember another situation where an agency has done such a horrific job representing it's client.
Demonstrates again it doesn't matter what the player asks for
BillT : 4/13/2017 9:46 am : link
It only matters what they are offered.
So am I.

We PAID Vernon and Snacks last year.

We gave JPP "Vernon-money" this year because he basically matched or exceeded Vernon when on the field last year.

Hankins/his agent believe he deserves "Snacks money", problem is that Snacks was CLEARLY a better player last year making any sort of JPP analogy a weak argument.
I guess

even more than Snacks money, but I don't think "looking" for $15M was the case. Maybe asking initially to start negotiations high.
Owhership doing its bargaining by press leak

How is $15m/y "Snacks money." Snack's contract was $9.5m/y.
Maybe Snacks

Yeah, it's the team that's the bad guy here, not the player who, along with his agents, completely misread the market and ridiculously overestimated his own worth. It's the team, who put a fair offer on the table weeks ago, not the player and his agents, who've shown a marked inability to bargain in good faith.

As Mr. Williams once said to Han, "Man, you come right out of a comic book."

Don't get involved in these type threads when we talk about another persons worth, but if you simply play owner or GM, would you pay 15 mil per season for Hankins, and if not what do you think he is worth, do you think the Giants offer of 7 mil per is fair. In my opinion the 7 mil per season is fair. I say good luck to Hankins though. I like him, but you simply can't pay him that contract.
Honestly tell him to screw off
The 12th Man : 4/13/2017 10:16 am : link
If he is dumb enough o believe he is worth that money I want him no where near this team. He has cancer to the locker room written all over him. Thanks for your time here but I would move and move very quickly in another direction. 15 million? Does Hankins have any common sense. By the way, one of the Asshats made comments about Poston killing his client. sounds like he was right. Didn't Strahan use Poston as his agent?

that actually explains why he hasn't come running to the Giants this winter: he's asking twice as much as NY is offering and, because we've left the offer on the table, there's no incentive for him to jump at it, seeing as how he (or his agent) feels it's 50% lower than he's worth and it's now a fall-back, safety net position.

The market will show him otherwise, and he'll come to the realization that he won't be making Edge Rusher money anytime soon. Still, I'll bet he's signed soon enough by someone willing to shell out about 13% more than the Giants: I'm guessing he'll get some team to bite for 4 x $8,000,000, which will seem like a bargain after they've heard the initial figure of $15mil.

And that, by the way, is precisely Poston's strategy here. Start obscenely high and negotiate down to a figure that's still absolutely ridiculous, but seemingly a steal because it's so much lower than what it might've been. It seems crazy, but it'll probably work in the end.

Oh, and for all the shit that Poston's getting for this stupidly outrageous demand of $15,000,000, Hankins deserves an equal amount of grief. It's not like his agent is doing all this on the sly without the client's knowledge: Hanky knows what's going on, and Hanky's all in.

Don't be so sure that the 4 year 28 mil dollar offer is still on the table. I specifically heard it was pulled at some point. Who knows maybe it is back in play but I had heard 2 for 7-8 per.

I would guess that if it does get done it's maybe 3 for 20-22 or so.
What's the big deal?
fkap : 4/13/2017 12:50 pm : link
Giants put a value on a guy they want back. Hankins wants more. there's nothing contentious, embarrassing, or otherwise negative newsworthy. Hankins doesn't have the Giants over a barrel. they would prefer him back, but not at significantly over the set value. If he doesn't come back, it's no different than if someone had offered him the moon and he left. If the draft comes and he's not signed, and a DL looks like good value, they draft him.
What a coincidence - I am asking all my potential employers for $15M
PatersonPlank : 4/13/2017 12:52 pm : link
too! No takers yet but lets see how it goes.
Hankins
PaulN : 4/13/2017 1:20 pm : link
Is taking a risk, there is no guarantee the Giants will be willing to keep that offer if he comes back to them, even if they had intentions to do so, things change in time and time is passing. I think the Giants do like him and they will probably handle it with class if he does come back, but there is risk. I have not heard the Giants pulled the offer, but that doesn't mean they didn't pull it either. I just have not read that.
15M?
annexOPR : 4/13/2017 1:25 pm : link
That's 7.5M per Dallas game ... pretty steep. Good luck with that Hankins.
Well, for all of you knocking his agent,
Doomster : 4/14/2017 8:35 am : link
he ended up with a contract equal to Harrison.....

I seriously doubt, the agent was asking for 15M per, even as a starting point....

The agent got his man what he wanted, 10M per, which is more than Harrison....

So everyone saying he was only worth 6-7M, it means nothing when it comes to FAcy....you always overpay in FAcy, if you really want someone....Hell, was Vernon worth 29M last year?
Agree. If the result is the Indy offered paid than the Giants
Jimmy Googs : 4/14/2017 9:55 am : link
then his Agent got the job done afterall.

And we'll move along fine..
