NFT: NBA breaks attendance record!

LCtheINTMachine : 4/13/2017 11:56 am
With all the talk of resting players, it gets lost in the shuffle that the NBA broke attendance records yet again! Congratulations to the NBA on a fabulous season.

to a Knick game. $325 each. $1300 for 4

Who can afford to go to these games?
serious question

Nothing But Assholes. Stopped watching when Michael Jordan, Bird, Dr J retired. Every time I watch I see nothing but travelling.

Its absurd. Nothing will tank those prices faster than if Kick fans actually hit Dolan in the mouth and stopped going to games.
Boring players

Attendance is a drop in the bucket

for owners and sounds like the NBA PR machine looking to distract from the real problem

Quote:
As of the first week in February, NBA game ratings on regional sports networks were down 15 percent in total, a decrease that mirrors other sports as the popularity of news networks during the pre- and post-election cycle has siphoned viewers away from sports.

This report came out around the All Star break. And there is this

So far, at least 20 teams are posting lower or flat ratings compared with the same point last season.

I'm sure that it will probably uptick during the playoffs. But compared to college, the NBA TV product is boring. The odds of any competitive games/upsets are limited in the playoffs. Viewers know to basically wait until the last 3-4 minutes of a game to see what is going on.

While attendance is important for the league, and for the revenues related to the arena, it's the TV and online viewership which is the bread and butter of the league. And it ain't looking good for Adam Silver.

Seriously

who cares. Basketball has moved to my 4th sport and may very quickly be 5th. The game sucks now, would much rather watch college NCAA than pro games.
I became a Knicks fan as a kid in late 70s
fredgbrown : 4/13/2017 1:29 pm : link
watching Earl Monroe, Sugar Ray Richardson, Ray Williams, Marvin "the eraser" Webster....A church down the street from where I lived offered bus rides to game for 30 something dollars...I havent seen one whole game on TV this year for the Knicks...I have lost interest in the NBA big time...I was a Knicks fan back in the day whether they were winning or losing but now I cant stomach watching them play..

Uh, all the people who just helped break the attendance record at least.
Kind of odd

Everyone ripping the league over some positive news. It's a league without prima donna players who punch women like the NFL.

You can rip the NBA when it is warranted. But the fact that people are going to the games and enjoying them is a good thing. How is it not? If attendance was down, then all the doom and gloom would be warranted.

There's no prima donna's in the NBA? Did I read that correctly?

I'm happy for the people that go to the games and find enjoyment. I just don't get the overarching joy for the league who gives a pathetically weak regular season and charges as much as they do for tickets, which will only rise as a result of the increased attendance (I would imagine).
I took my nephew
MookGiants : 4/13/2017 3:46 pm : link
to see Steph Curry against the Knicks in March.

It wasn't a bad game, but there were more than a couple times that I dozed off, I was that bored.

I know many feel differently, but I just can't watch the NBA until the eastern/western conference finals. Regular season NBA puts me to sleep

What's the point of watching the regular season?

I'd argue MLB season is more meaningful when less teams make it. Plus the addition of the second wildcard team has made it where more teams have a chance come september. Too often lousy teams make the playoffs in the NBA and never have a sniff at winning. Idk just something about the NBA is so uncompelling when it's the same teams every year.

You're kidding with this, right?

Anyone who makes the playoffs in baseball has a legitimate chance to win the world series.

In the NBA, the bottom half of each conference has zero shot to win the title. So the race to get the last couple playoff spots in the NBA is worthless.
