NFT: The Leftovers Season 3 (This Weekend!)

Motley Two : 4/13/2017 1:36 pm
Can't Wait! Lindelof & HBO sent out 7 of the 8 final episodes to critics and the early reviews are extremely strong.

Metacritic @ 98
Rotten Tomatoes @ 100

Granted these scores are only based on a few reviews so far, but I've also seen quite a few other reviews (saying the same thing) that haven't been accounted for on those sites yet.
Can't fucking wait.

My favorite current show.
A true work of art.
bceagle05 : 4/13/2017 1:48 pm : link
I'm sure it'll be incredible. Hard to believe this show hasn't gained more of a following.
I rewatched the first 2 seasons last month and I know

its going to be so difficult to have to wait weeks at a time for each episode. Binge watching has spoiled me.
The only show that has made me feel sorry
Motley Two : 4/13/2017 1:56 pm : link
for the people who created it, writers, actors, ect., they'll never get to see it the same way the rest of us have.
Such an awesome show

Hell yeah!!
Fuck yes
UConn4523 : 4/13/2017 2:13 pm : link
its easily in my top 5 shows of the last few years, possibly longer. I don't think there's a show on TV who's score dictates the story more-so than in the Leftovers.
Such a great soundtrack (I mention this everytime)!
GiantFilthy : 4/13/2017 2:15 pm : link
Really hate that this will be it. I do understand a little though why it didn't gain a lot of traction. Most people gave up after the first half (at most) of season one. It was a slow mover/builder. Most never got to the magic of season two.
Did i read somewhere that season 3 will be the last?
mfsd : 4/13/2017 2:20 pm : link
If so, will be very interesting to see how they write it to its conclusion. Great show

Yes. Lindelof basically said that they weren't going to do a season 3, that season 2 was such a drain on him to make. But the fan reaction to season 2 made him beg HBO to greenlight season 3 and give the show a proper ending.

Yes, this is the final season.

That's a good thing IMO - many other shows have started strong, only to fade as they kept writing seasons with wandering storylines (Lost, for example).
That's exactly what happened with Lost.
Motley Two : 4/13/2017 2:39 pm : link
The network kept ordering more episodes.

Leftovers began with the idea of 3 season at most.

Agree. A lot of people bring up S2EP8 'International Assasin' from season 2, but I like episode 9 '10-13' every bit as much and a lot of it has to do with the music choices.

'White Lines' used twice. Then they use Sturgil Simpson's amazing cover of 'The Promise' in the bar scene where Meg has Tommy looking like 13 year old me the first time I saw Liv Tyler in he dad's Crazy video.
Then they have Meg march into the camp outside of Jarden to Olivia Newton-John's 'Magic'. Freaking Xanadu soundtrack! Are you kidding me?!!
show was binged watched in 4 weeks , both seasons over the winter

count me in as a fan, next to Legion... best show I've seen this year.

Cant Wait!
The music is absolutely brilliant.
bceagle05 : 4/13/2017 3:14 pm : link
Just the subtle build-up sometimes - like when Kevin's confessing to Nora about "seeing" Patti (just before the rock breaks through the window), or when Tommy pries open the van doors to see what's inside. It's edge-of-your-seat stuff.

And I agree about the 10-13 episode. The music was fantastic, and I love how they captured the feeling of dread over what Meg was planning the next day.
First show my Wife ever turned me on to

That I like
I know many didn't like 1 but loved 2
Kyle in NY : 4/13/2017 3:59 pm : link
But this show really hit me hard from day 1. One of the best shows of the last few years, maybe the best. Credit Lindelloff for remaining steadfast and making the show he wanted to make, despite early criticism.
I was a day 1 watcher too
Motley Two : 4/13/2017 4:03 pm : link
but it has been fun making converts of my friends. Like building my own Guilty Remnant.

I think many are simply too impatient these days. Can you imagine this show's impact pre-streaming?

Far too often I discuss with friends or co-workers who will drop a show after 1 or 2 episodes and I couldn't imagine doing that with a show like this. For those that have, sucks for them.

That's a big part of how these shows build audiences. I didn't know a thing about the Leftovers until a buddy told me he knows I'd really get into it, so I started to catch up when season 1 was halfway through. I've recommended it to several friends since...but we all kind of know who in our circles has the taste for a slower developing, multi-layered story and characters.

Same was true with Bloodline for me
Very pumped

For this 3rd and final season. The wait has felt like forever to get here. Must watch TV every Sunday.
Love it, even though I still ....
Crispino : 4/13/2017 5:12 pm : link
don't have a fucking clue what's going on. :)
I hope the show never tells us what caused the departure.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 4/13/2017 5:17 pm : link
A great show that works because it makes the world post-departure totally believable.

LOVE Carrie Coon.

totally agree. People would probably complain about The Wire after a few episodes if it came out today. I certainly am appreciative of the streaming culture, I partake in it plenty. But it does have its downsides
Carrie Coon
Kyle in NY : 4/13/2017 5:43 pm : link
is about to have herself quite the showcase this spring. Between this and Fargo, the awards will follow. Her showcase in the first season, the episode Guest, was when I knew I was in this show for good. She's fantastic
Carrie Coon is a babe.
