Can't Wait! Lindelof & HBO sent out 7 of the 8 final episodes to critics and the early reviews are extremely strong.
Metacritic @ 98
Rotten Tomatoes @ 100
Granted these scores are only based on a few reviews so far, but I've also seen quite a few other reviews (saying the same thing) that haven't been accounted for on those sites yet.
Yes, this is the final season.
Yes. Lindelof basically said that they weren't going to do a season 3, that season 2 was such a drain on him to make. But the fan reaction to season 2 made him beg HBO to greenlight season 3 and give the show a proper ending.

If so, will be very interesting to see how they write it to its conclusion. Great show
Yes, this is the final season.
That's a good thing IMO - many other shows have started strong, only to fade as they kept writing seasons with wandering storylines (Lost, for example).
Leftovers began with the idea of 3 season at most.
Agree. A lot of people bring up S2EP8 'International Assasin' from season 2, but I like episode 9 '10-13' every bit as much and a lot of it has to do with the music choices.
'White Lines' used twice. Then they use Sturgil Simpson's amazing cover of 'The Promise' in the bar scene where Meg has Tommy looking like 13 year old me the first time I saw Liv Tyler in he dad's Crazy video.
Then they have Meg march into the camp outside of Jarden to Olivia Newton-John's 'Magic'. Freaking Xanadu soundtrack! Are you kidding me?!!
Cant Wait!
And I agree about the 10-13 episode. The music was fantastic, and I love how they captured the feeling of dread over what Meg was planning the next day.
I think many are simply too impatient these days. Can you imagine this show's impact pre-streaming?
Far too often I discuss with friends or co-workers who will drop a show after 1 or 2 episodes and I couldn't imagine doing that with a show like this. For those that have, sucks for them.
That's a big part of how these shows build audiences. I didn't know a thing about the Leftovers until a buddy told me he knows I'd really get into it, so I started to catch up when season 1 was halfway through. I've recommended it to several friends since...but we all kind of know who in our circles has the taste for a slower developing, multi-layered story and characters.
Same was true with Bloodline for me
LOVE Carrie Coon.
yep. that's her.
