Now that Hankins is gone, sign AP

superspynyg : 4/13/2017 2:18 pm
To a 2 year 10-12 mil deal? He still has juice, is a still a dominant back, and wants to sign with a contender.

We can then use the draft for TE, OlL,DT,LB

I don't see the connection

What does Hankins have to do with AP?

Cap room. I just don't see AP a fit for this offense.
Use the money we save.

Really?? How so?
I wouldn't care if we had $50 million to blow
UConn4523 : 4/13/2017 2:27 pm : link
why bring in an old broken veteran RB who isn't a schematic fit, especially one with his baggage?

Blount

AP is better than Blount. By far and AP is not broken down.
He's

not real suited for running out of the gun. Deep in an I, he can run. Zone runs from the gun, not so much.
Have to add too much weight to play DT

Goodbye Jonathan, Hello Tide Strongman

An "old buddy" of this site here...will get into more detail over the next few weeks, but losing Hankins is no biggie, if the reports of the Giants' interest in an Alabama DT is true. No, not Jonathan Allen, as his damaged body will probably go in the top ten, but the Tide has a hidden gem in Dalvin Tomlinson, a lunch-pail type in the Big Snacks mode. It will likely take a round 2 to get him, as he might be raw, but oh boy, can he bring the lumber
So now Eli is going under center,
B in ALB : 4/13/2017 3:45 pm : link
they're signing a FB and the Giants are suddenly running out of the I and power formations so they can sign an old, expensive vet coming off torn meniscus surgery who will line up 7 yards deep behind a line that has proven it cannot run block.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

What is your opinion on Malik McDowell?
No
PaulN : 4/13/2017 4:02 pm : link
Horrible idea. This is a great draft for a running back, plus you think AP isn't going to get big money, he will want big money, why, when you can get a cheaper and better player in the draft. It's stupid, and signing veteran running backs to big contracts is also stupid. I hate the fact that the Giants feel they need to do that, why, Perkins played better then Jennings and Vereen and look what they paid both of those guys, think the money could have been used to help the OLine with their production? He proved a rookie who didn't even go to training camp, was a 5thg round pick, and wasn't even handed the job until everyone proved 10 times over they couldn't do the job, then he showed a glimpse of what he could have given us, and what he could give us in the future. The running back position is a young mans game.
AP?

NO.
I'd rather sign Antonio Pierce

MALIK McDOWELL
nflscouting : 4/13/2017 4:29 pm : link
God-given talent, but for an eight cylinder package, he runs on six cylinders mostly and is prone to disappearing, especially after a costly penalty - hey, much like the Ohio State kid who just robbed the Colts of 30 mil.
He's been relatively quiet since a monster sophomore season & the BIG thing on Big Guys? - he has an issue of getting too tall coming off the snap and struggles with counter moves, in addition to short arming himself, which let blockers get some nice "cotton" as jersey grabbers. He gets reckless in pursuit & you will see an explosive straight-line burst, but when having to recover or redirect, he tends to trip over his feet.
His wing span & big paws should see him win battles in keeping blockers at a distance, but he's yet to grasp the active hands needed to do so.
Yeah, they peg him Round One, but all I see is another Phil Taylor (ex-Brown) unless he comes to Jesus in playing at 100%
The Giants aren't going to give AP the money he wants
81_Great_Dane : 4/13/2017 4:30 pm : link
even if they have it. I don't favor signing him at all, and I think it would be absolutely stupid to sign him before the draft (What if the Giants end up with, say, Christian McCaffrey?), but if they do, it's going to be pretty much on their terms. He's not a great fit and he doesn't look like a guy who's eager to change his game and learn a new role.
DAVE-TE'!!!

Welcome back, thanks for the info and I hope all is well with you after your rough bout with life.

I too dont see the allure of MacDowell.
I had the Giants taking Tomlinson in the 2nd round in one of my mocks.
Klaatu : 4/13/2017 4:59 pm : link

2. Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama. 6-3, 310.

Lance Zierlein says: BOTTOM LINE Prototypical Alabama defensive tackle who wins with leverage, power and technique. Tomlinson's powerful frame and ability to stack the run between the tackles could make him a scheme-flexible target in the draft. While he is likely to be drafted as a run bully, his history of operating in Alabama's stunt-and-twist-oriented defense could help keep him on the field on third downs for teams using a similar concept. Tomlinson has a chance to become an early starter and should work into a defensive line rotation immediately.

Would be really interesting to pair him with Snacks.

literally makes no sense for this team for countless reasons

one of which being his career long struggles running out of a formation this essentially lines up in all game.

having said that, glad the giants didn't match this offer. way too much for "potential"

Why spend
LakeGeorgeGiant : 4/13/2017 5:53 pm : link
on an old broken-down shitstain of a human being when the draft is full of healthy talented RBs that presumably don't beat children?

RB is one position in which we could absolutely find a rookie that can contribute in a big way right out of the gate.
Can't believe anyone would be okay with this.

Why do people keep saying AP is still a dominant back?

He barely even played last year and when he did he was bad.

Because he barely even played last year and the last year he was healthy (only 1.5 years ago) he was a dominant beast.
I think people predicting App's death are premature
PatersonPlank : 4/14/2017 3:21 pm : link
If he wanted to accept the $$ we wanted to spend, and a status as a part time back with Perkins, is be ok with him.
AP doesn't fit the Giants offense
GiantJake : 4/14/2017 3:50 pm : link
McAdoo isn't going to overhaul his offense to accommodate Peterson. The Giants don't even have a FB and play a majority of snaps out of a shotgun. They need to draft a young RB that fits the offense and forget about AP.

Guys get old really quick in this game. Cruz was a dominate beast in 2011-2012-2013. Three years later he's done. Jennings was one of the hottest RBs down the stretch of 2015. Last year he couldn't break off a single big run.

AP is an old 31 and for a RB that's extra scary. Plus the whole AP beating his kid with a tree branch thing. Would I cry myself to sleep if we signed him? No, but he's not the same player anymore. If you think he's coming to the giants to dominate you're dreaming.
