On NFL.com Connor Orr has attributed the same written statement to both Goodell and Troy Vincent. Either its a mistake and a tribute to him or Vincent couldn't be arsed beyond forwarding thr NFL's official memo.
I don't know Blandino, but I'm a fan of the NFL for my entire life and I do feel comfortable saying that I know Blandino's work. And Blandino's work has resulted in a steady disintegration of NFL officiating. Every year under Blandino the officiating has gotten worse. Serious NFL fans will not miss Blandino.
Hopefully he's replaced by someone who's actually had to officiate a few football games. You know, like, for the experience and all that stuff.

His top deputy was former NFL Referee Alberto Riveron. Would not be shocked if he was considered as a replacement for Blandino.
For big hit he shit storms he's faced will actually get worse. Still want to know how a defensive player can stop in mid air if the offensive player moves.
The league needs an adult to address this. Football is a dangerous sport to play long term. It's impossible to remove the inherent risks. And he knew they State to less. Them always seem to be more media hype related.
IMO the rules and changes are for more fantasy football and to pump up offensive numbers. It's going to get worse and he got out. Granted he was horrific at his job but to me the league is heading down a road that will kill the sport.
Ha! Put him with Nantz and Romo. Talk about a train wreck waiting to happen
He's doing that Mike Pereira role so he'll be in the studio and available for all games. He's essentially replacing Mike Carey, I can see him being decent, he's media skilled and knows the rules inside out. Glad he's out of his old job.
I think officiating is getting worse because of changing dynamics.
The game is getting faster, our televisions and replays are getting better, and the emphasis on safety has added more gray areas and has caused players to have to sometimes act erratically mid-play (trying to avoid hits).
Beautiful slow-motion replays have caused peopel to be a lot more critical of what is considered a catch because it gets slowed down frame by frame. Speaking of which, the "catch" definition gets more criticism than anything in terms of bad officiating, but I've yet to see anyone able to create a definition of a "catch" that doesn't create just as many gray areas or doesn't lead to insane consequences.

This is exactly right and why this is a smart move by Blandino since the job is only going to get more difficult. Reports are that the NFL is upset by him stepping down since they know he will be hard to replace. You add in a fan base that is increasingly clueless about the rules and enforcement of them and it's a tough spot to be in. I don't envy the next guy at all.
Paul is correct on the catch rule. I think it's about as good as we can expect it since no one has come up with anything better.

That's fantastic. He will be exposed for the fraud he has always was.

You can tell how little the NFL actually cares about fan opinion or the appearance of credibility and integrity when the guy supposedly in charge of and responsible for leaguewide officiating, a position that demands impartiality, is basically an adult Johnny Manziel and openly befriends certain owners.

These are big shoes to fill for the next guy but I imagine Roger will make the right choice like he always does.

No, Greenberg is being moved to TV and Golic will have a new partner.
