Johnathan Hankins signing has Giants turning to Plan B

The Giants will be looking for both depth and competition. In free agency, there still are some intriguing names available, with proven veterans such as Jared Odrick and Sen’Derrick Marks the top options. While both are different players than Hankins -- they’re more shoot-the-gap pass-rushers than hold-the-line run-stuffers -- they could be ideal compliments to the run-stuffing machine that is Harrison.

The draft is another area the Giants are likely to explore for a defensive tackle. It’s something they have done quite often in the first three rounds under general manager Jerry Reese.

Hankins, Bromley, Linval Joseph and Marvin Austin all were second- or third-round picks since Reese became general manager in 2007. With Hankins’ departure, none have made it to their second contract. The Giants just restock from the draft.

This is considered a decent draft for defensive tackles, although it isn’t exactly top heavy. Don’t expect the Giants to use the 23rd overall pick on one, in part because of the options and value.

Very Deep DT Draft

Therefore I hope they go the route of a mid to late DT pick to replace Hanks spot. I don't want Wormley or McDowell in early rounds, I'd be happy with a Glasgow or Watkins in around the 4th round.
Would love to see

them make a move for Marks.
T-Minus 4 hours...

That's all that's left in Slades "big move" window.
If we could snag

McDowell somehow someway in the 2nd I'd be ecstatic!
We are going to miss the big man more than anyone thinks....

Two nose guards is not a bad idea when Dallas is twice on your schedule and figures to be among your chief competition (I'm not de-valuing Philly) for the division.

The matchup against their super efficient interior offensive line favored us....Now I don't know and I think a proper no.3 might be a liability.

As good as Snacks is I don't think he can do it alone.

I do not think so, otherwise we would have desperately signed him. Right now we need interior speed and quickness not some fat guy filling space and a hole..not much upside in that model

That would be a very solid move in my book.
Dallas also lost 2/6 of their OL.

Free retired and Leary left. Plus, Collins has not played well. So, why should we expect Dallas' OL to be as good as they were last year? They have 3 studs in Smith, Frederick, and Martin but they should be weaker than last year. Dallas also lost half their defense so why should we be tailoring our team to beat Dallas? I think they take a big step back this year.

Our goal should be to beat GB, ATL, NE, etc. In order to do that we need more of a pass rush up the middle. JPP, Vernon, and Snacks are all top run defenders. No reason we cannot continue with that trend.

Nice company line from Raanan

I think he forgot about a slight exception to the "restock from the draft plan" - Harrison.

And all that "restocking" left the cupboard bare and other needs unfulfilled until the team had to go out and plunk major coin down on Harrison and free agents.
So long Hankins and your 2 tackles per game over 4 years...
NYG21254246 : 4/14/2017 1:31 pm : link
This is a guy who has 140 COMBINED tackles in 4 years on the NYG. That is an average of 35 combined tackles per year or 2, count them 2.1, tackles per 16 game season. INDY gave him 10 million a year for that. We can get that production for ALOT less. You don't want to be part of the NYG superbowl team and want money instead? Then go ahead. You're not the team player we want anyway.
