NFT: Yanks talk 4-14 How Sweep it is!!!

superspynyg : 4/14/2017 9:15 am
Yanks sweep first home series of the season!! Rays go down 3-2. I did not see the game but looking at the box Severino had a great night 7 innings 5 hits 2 er 11 K's. Hicks with 2 knocks.

Big weekend series vs the Cards. Wacha vs Tanaka. Holliday vs his old club. Make them pay for not re-signing you. Its on MLB network!! Yes!!

Hope Tanaka gets his shit together
Greg from LI : 4/14/2017 9:18 am : link
Right now, he's their worst performing pitcher. Never thought I'd say that this season. Bird needs to drop in the lineup, he's like a pitcher batting at the moment.

Having just watched the Nats-Cards series, the Cards aren't nearly as good as they have been the last few seasons. Although its still very early.
Looking up the rest of the AL East

Can't believe what an awful start the Blue Jays are off to. Their big bad offense has been shit so far, they really do miss Encarnacion

Yeah, it's still very early, but Yanks have to be happy they righted their ship so quickly
I love love LOVE seeing the Jays flounder

As a FBB owner of Bautista, he's a pile of poo so far this year too.
Scary how off Bird has been
MadPlaid : 4/14/2017 9:54 am : link
I hope he isn't thinking too much and pressing.
Not sure which I was more excited about last night...

Severino's fantastic start or Hicks' big night. Hicks started to turn it around at the end of last year. He was a highly regarded prospect and he's a very good defensive outfielder. If he can put it tougher on offense he could be a regular part of the lineup moving forward....at the minimum it looks like there is a good chance he'll be a very good 4th outfielder moving forward.

And Severino looks like he's being back to the pitcher he was all through the minors and during his call up in 2015. The bite on his slider is back and his FB is actually up a few ticks. Yanks are desperate for starters after this year. I don't hear too many people calling for him to go to the bullpen lately.
Hicks could make Gardner expendable if he keeps swinging
yatqb : 4/14/2017 10:31 am : link
a decent bat. And with guys like Fowler, McKinney and Frazier in the wings we'd be able to restock our 4th OF role fairly easily.
They've been trying to deal Gardner
Greg from LI : 4/14/2017 10:35 am : link
But no one has offered much since he had a down year last season.

I also love the fact Russell Martin has 1 hit and is batting 042. Yeah I know it's early, but still enjoying.

be missing the last 4 games, but Bird looked over matched last night. Maybe move him down and take some pressure off of him.

Bautista is aging, Tulo is good but had inflated #s due to Coors and Donaldson is injured
Since their call ups

Bird, Sanchez and Judge have all homered three games in a row, with Sanchez having done it for games in a row. That's pretty unusual.
Much sterner test coming up with the Cardinals

The Yanks will get all of their interleague schedule outside of the Mets done before the All Star Break (they play the Mets in August)
going into yesterday
RasputinPrime : 4/14/2017 1:57 pm : link
Sanchez and Judge had the 8 hardest hit balls in 2017 - in all of baseball.

It's some exciting shit. The news about Kap was not so awesome however.
Bird was a partial victim of a wide
section125 : 4/14/2017 2:07 pm : link
zone last night - if K Zone is to be believed. He has a good eye and works the count. If the ump is giving the pitcher strikes on pitches 2 to 4 inches outside, Bird loses his advantage and has to swing at balls.
Same token Severino got some favorable calls, too.

I think Judge should move up to 3 or 5. He really looks good right now. Maybe swap Bird and Judge until Bird gets untracked - which he will.

I think the more Hicks plays, the better he'll get. Decent eye with decent power and good speed. He knows how to work the count.

The 5th spot might be Judge's future spot in the order...batting him 3rd is a huge risk with all the strikeouts
To be fair, Judges Ks are down this season, at least through
mfsd : 4/14/2017 2:26 pm : link
2 weeks...and hitting him before Holliday (or Sanchez when he's back) would help him see more pitches to hit I think
Anyone
mitch300 : 4/14/2017 2:38 pm : link
else notice how the low stike has been called. I have watched other games/teams and it seems to be league wide. Seems that pitches would be called balls are now strikes.

It certainly was last night. But the K Zone box is one size fits all, so basing your judgement on that may skew the perception. (if that was what your using)
No
mitch300 : 4/14/2017 4:45 pm : link
not using the k zone. Just seems the low borderline pitches are now strikes. Something to look at going forward.

6. Aaron Judge (R) RF

WTF is wrong with Girardi? Absoutley ZERO reason to sit Hicks after his game last night. And WTF is he doing batting Castro 2nd? Why put a .300 OBP hacker in the 2 hole?

For a smart guy Girardi sure does some absolutely dumb shit.

Won't say you are wrong, but why freak out. Castro walked last night - deserves to bat 2nd!
Girardi is no fool. He wants Gardner in for some reason. Hicks is playing well and I wouldn't mind seeing him in while he's hot.

Lol. To be fair I agreed when you said it.
Headley can hit 2nd while Sanchez is out
mfsd : 4/14/2017 7:30 pm : link
as long as he keeps getting on base...Castro has zero business hitting higher than 7th
apparently Castro hits Wacha well from the NL days ...

that said, I agree that once Sanchez and Didi are back,
Del Shofner : 4/14/2017 7:34 pm : link
Castro should bat 8th in that order.

I must say, between Hicks, Headley, Tanner Glass in game 1 for the Rangers, and now that bomb by Castro, this spring has become revenge of the BBI whipping boys.
Judge juuuust missed crushing a homerun

Is one of the very best managers in baseball. The shit he gets from Yankees fans is annoying as hell. If they don't go 162-0, the lynch mob comes out in force. It's embarrassing to be a Yankees fan sometimes. I swear some of you are the clowns that call in to Francesa to give the world your thoughts...

If Sanchez and Didi come back healthy and the kids continue to develop, we could be pretty good by late July.

They're winning without Sanchez and Didi, two of their best players. Bird isn't hitting at all. Team has some spirit. This could be a fun year.

I suspected guys like Headley and Castro could start strong, as they know they're playing for their baseball lives with so much talent coming up fast...they've been even better than most of us could have imagined so far.

Headley's rocking a .400/.488/.629 through 10 games. After his start last year, that's amazing. And Castro hasn't been far behind him.

All reverse psychology. Before the wedding, we all trucked out to St Louis for a Cards game. To be honest ... it's like the Packers, it's a lifestyle for them. Which is great. Hey - he's my son's father-in-law so I'll be cordial but I'll explain to him why the Yanks can't possibly win.
