NFT: Opening Day in Rochester! Who has a family sports tradition?

Steve L : 4/14/2017 11:14 am
I love Opening Day. This is the tenth straight Red Wings (AAA for the Twins) opener for my 16 year old boys and me.

Anyone else have a long-standing sports tradition with kids/family/friends?

Me and a few friends have been to every Yankee home opener since 1997, with the exception of the first opener in the new stadium. Great day to look forward to every year. I have a soon to be four year old and a two and a half year old who haven't joined us on opening day yet, but I did bring them to their first game at the stadium last night. Great night!

Enjoy the day today!
Wow amazing tradition!

Your boys have seen opening day from ages 6-16! That's quite a run and they will have great memories of this as they get older. Plus minor league baseball is in many ways more pleasant than the big leagues - and much more affordable. Enjoy!

Sure is more affordable. I pay $6.75 to sit 15 rows behind home plate and can park for free if I get there early enough. If not it's $6. A 20 ounce local brewed Scotch ale is only $6.50. $1 dogs on Wednesdays. Can't beat it!
Steve - I loved going to Red Wings games as a young kid

I remember going to old Silver Stadium and chowing down on peanuts and hot dogs with my old man.

As minor league ball parks go, Frontier Field is a top stadium. The view of Kodak Tower looming over left field/foul pole is pretty unique.

Right they have so many great discounts and you sit close up. I have some buddies that we make an annual trip to Reading for a game.

Over the past couple of years

We've started making mini-trips to eventually see a baseball game at every stadium. My triplets are now 12, so it's easier to plan a game as part of an itinerary in a city. The cool part is my wife and daughter couldn't care less about baseball, but it was their idea to see a game in every stadium; they think it's a neat idea.

We live in MD (I'm a former LIer and a Mets fan), so we've been to nearby Camden Yards and Nationals Park, but we've gone to CitiField, Fenway Park and Toronto over the past year and a half as well. We'll be going to Cleveland in July to see the Indians and catch the NFL HOF, Rock & Roll HOF and Cedar Point. Thinking about a relatively short road trip as well for PIT to see PNC Park before the summer is over also.

What is also good for that is an extended trip to California where you can get SF/OAK, go down to LAD/LAA, and end up in San Diego if it all works out. Plus Stan can give you all the great places since everything is better in California! :)

I've been doing the same on my business trips. I'm just over half way there.
