We have a home built in the 70's and I want to update our Closet doors. Most of them consist of the Bi-fold type. When I measure these they come out to 29.5"w X 78" tall. The header only allows for about 1/2" play.
I go online and all I see are 30 X 80" doors. Without the header covering the track, it's 80". So are those measurements online the door themselves or the openings?
I've installed dozens of doors in older homes that were less than 80" - your choices are to special order 78" doors (which is actually common - some stores may actually carry them in stock) or cut down the jamb and slab with a circular saw to fit the opening. I'm guessing you should be able to fit a 30" width wise you'll just have more limited room to shim and may have to shave a bit off the latch side.
Right, you may only have an inch to work with on the bottom before you get to the hollow portion

Thanks Ryan, yeah I thought that maybe my doors were uncommon and this was going to be a pain but I am seeing some on Home depots site that are our dimensions
Good idea will do this tomorrow, Thanks Eric
