This is why rear view cameras should be mandatory on all cars and trucks!

"The incident happened in the driveway of a home in the gated community of Las Sendas. Police responded to a car/pedestrian accident about 3:45 p.m. and were told the girl was on the driveway when Heap moved the truck forward and hit her."
He was moving forward, not backing up.
I didn't know that this was my worst nightmare until now. Mortifying.
Prayers go out for the Heap family!
Terrible accident.
drives me nuts and scares me every time I see here there and I tell her to play on the sidewalk.
No idea how you recover from this
I would have similar thoughts...as fathers our whole lives are dedicated to keeping our kids safe and then for something like this to happen...
I will pray hard for him and his family...
I found out that they did a lot of education about it and pushed for better technology (like we now have when backing up in newer vehicles).
If there can ever be a silver lining for humanity along these lines, I hope Heap and his family, and anyone else this ever happens to, can find some peace in knowing that their horrible tragedy can potentially help avoid a similar fate for others.
I believe I read he was pulling forward and not backing up, but I really could not bring myself to read anything in detail.
