6-Round Mock from Chad Reuter on NFL.com...

M.S. : 4/15/2017 10:40 am
...have the Giants taking

Round 1: Ryan Ramczyk; OT; Wisconsin
Round 2: Chris Wormley; DT; Michigan
Round 3: Bucky Hodges; TE; Va Tech
Round 4: Brad Kaaya; QB; Miami
Round 5: Richie Brown; LB; Mississippi
Round 6: Rashaad Coward; DT; Old Dominion

Two observations:

(1) Clearly a need draft with the first 3 picks;
(2) Has us passing on David Njoku (#24) and Dalvin Cook (#27)... (no F-ing way);

We need an edge rusher

To spell JPP and Vernon. I'm think DE is going to be the pick more and more. I would love to see us trade back to get a few extra picks.

Hodges's is going to be gone by our 3rd round draft pick. I think he might be gone in the second even though he's more valued as a 3rd.
Taking a DE
XBRONX : 4/15/2017 10:54 am : link
with first pick makes no sense. We have many other needs. How many snaps is the third or fourth DE going to get?
If they pass on those guys for Ramzyck
est1986 : 4/15/2017 11:03 am : link
He must be the real deal in their eyes, and thats great because our biggest need is improved play at tackle.
I really like it

I'd sign up for this right now.

Not interested in Ramczyk in the first round, but wouldn't hate the pick. The problem as has been noted, is that he has only one year of D1 football, and is coming off hip surgery. He's not a "clean" player.

I'd love Wormley in the second, but don't think he'll be available. Hodges and Coward probably won't be available in the third and sixth rounds either.

No interest in Kaaya. Perennial back up at best. His arm isn't strong enough to deal with the howling late season winds in Giants stadium.
At least Bucky would coincide with
Diver_Down : 4/15/2017 11:35 am : link
Reese's 3rd round track record. I don't want a guy who was actually laughed at by Mayock during the combine when Hodges made the effort to get into a 3-point stance. It was embarrassing that a basic concept was lost on this young man.
The one change I would make is to take Peterman (Pitt QB) in the 3rd
PatersonPlank : 4/15/2017 11:42 am : link
and someone else in the 4th (maybe Tevi from Utah). I think Peterman has the potential to be a real NFL QB.
Good first 3

Don't like 4-6. If it broke that way I'd go 4-6:

Eddie Jackson, S Alabama
Adam Bisnowaty, OG, Pitt
Jaylen Myrick, CB Minnesota
I'm good with the first 3 also
allstarjim : 4/15/2017 11:58 am : link
and would definitely pass on Njoku and Cook for Ramczyk. Left tackles are harder to find than tight ends and running backs. As per the latter, lots of good ones should still be on the board in the 4th and maybe even the 5th rounds.
Replace Hodges with Adam Shaheen ...
njm : 4/15/2017 12:02 pm : link
and I'm fine with it.

I read somewhere that Cook is falling, and could be out of Rd 1
PatersonPlank : 4/15/2017 12:08 pm : link
two major reason are the value placed on RB and he seems to have some character issues.

Nah -- some guy sitting in his 'man-cave' in his undies drinking beer is a much much better talent evaluator.
lazy Draft
ThatLimerickGuy : 4/15/2017 1:10 pm : link
Giants don't draft this way - they don't force picks because of a current roster depth issue. It's what separates them from the bottom feeders of the league like the Jets and Browns
Dont force picks?

What was Flowers?
If Ramczyk
ryanmkeane : 4/15/2017 1:23 pm : link
medical checks out this would be a good pick. Why would this be a forced pick?

You think Flowers was a forced pick? Flowers has/had arguably the highest upside of any offensive linemen in his draft. He was also one of the youngest players in the draft as well and is still only 22. His size, strength, and athleticism warranted a top 10 pick. Now obviously he hasn't played up to his draft status but he is still learning and will hopefully take a huge step forward this year.
Everything you read
ryanmkeane : 4/15/2017 1:28 pm : link
tells you Ramczyk has great technique and could play both tackle positions. I'd be on board.

I couldn't disagree more. Look how much Tuck played in 2007 as the 3rd DE. The Giants desperately need a 3rd DE to allow JPP and Vernon more time to rest. All 3 would be on the field on 3rd down.

Jay... the normal progression is that professional football players make enormous strides between years one and two. The fact that Flowers did no such thing, even while being healthier, is a very ugly sign for this premium draft pick. I don't think he signs a second contract with the Giants, and that's assuming he's still in the NFL.
Flowers appeared in the 20's
mrvax : 4/15/2017 2:32 pm : link
on most draft boards. Not top 10.
Sy rated him as the 5th tackle. Sy's scouting report on Flowers hit the nail on the head. EF was a reach. Period.

Give me Njoku
Big Rick in FL : 4/15/2017 3:42 pm : link
In the 1st and Teez in the 3rd and I'd be ecstatic with that draft. We're a perfect spot for Kaaya. Smart kid that has all the tools. Just hasn't put them together yet. Sitting and learning from Eli would do him wonders.

Ramcyk v Flowers
WillVAB : 4/15/2017 3:54 pm : link
Ramcyk has better technique than Flowers right now and I'm not sure Flowers will get much better. Flowers plays way too high, doesn't get leverage, and is way too grabby with his hands. Check out this "highlight" clip from his Miami days. His technique looks the same today. I hope the light comes on but I wouldn't bet on it.

How many snaps did Justin tuck get in 2007 when there were two all pro DEs already entrenched as starters? Even more amazing we also gave kiwi snaps at DE or joker LB that season.

I think DE is a huge need. A young angry pass rusher takes this D to a scary good level. Get one.

The Wormley pick solves that problem. He played inside and outside at Michigan.

He'd be a good pick because he could see a lot of snaps rotating w Bromley at DT and spelling OV/JPP at DE.

The Giants come out of this draft without drafting a CB,IMO. I'd even go so far as to say I expect them to grab one in the 1st three rounds and it wouldn't surprise me if they go that way rd1 again if the right guy is available.
I know Dave-Te said Cook is dropping
section125 : 4/15/2017 10:06 pm : link
in the draft because of his entourage according to various scouts he has had contact with. But Sy'56 has Cook as the #1 RB.
A friend who was an All Big 10 OL said Cook is the real deal from what he has seen (FWIW).

We have had multiple topics on Cook. The charges for assault were acquitted in 10 minutes at trial because they were false and lies and proven as such. He got fined for tying up three dogs improperly (animal cruelty??) and he did go with his buddies to shoot out windows with a BB gun. I think there may have been something else, but not sure. I think there is a lot of smoke screen going up on Cook. Just cannot see Tampa letting him pass.

But then again, we never know what the scouts are really seeing and learning.
2nd and 3rd rounders are solid
Torrag : 4/16/2017 12:10 pm : link
As far as Kaaya I believe the Giants learned a lesson about arm strength as a pre-requisite in the Brown/Kannell years. He doesn't have the arm they covet. IMO that disqualifies him despite some of the other attractive qualities he possesses.

Works for me. DT, DE whatever. Just add more sizzle to the front seven.
