Very frustrating game so far, Yankees are up 1-0 but Martinez has walked 6 guys and struck out 8 batters Bird looks absolutely awful up their I am trying to be patient with this guy but maybe sending him down is best right now the only problem is Chris Carter stinks!! Both of them do nothing but strikeout. Only option in the minors is Choi he did have a good spring but so did bird and he is 1-25 with 13ks and a .040 batting average
I think Ellsbury needs to move to the 3 spot for now.
That's how he swings. His homerun yesterday front side flew open still hit it oppo. hes hitting very well how can you complain?
We'd rather bitch.

Because he has prodigious talent and squanders it by being dumb. He is mediocre and could be so much more.
What should the yanks do with bird is the real question. How can you keep putting this guy out there? At what point do they have enough but ingusss it isn't like carter is much better and clearly a worse defender.
No Clippard doesn't suck. You are spoiled by Chapman, Betances and Miller. Clippard is pretty decent. No, he's pretty good, especially for a 7th inning set up guy - who can actually close.
Sheesh.............
Clippard (7th), Betances (8th) and Chapman (9th).
How many teams in baseball wish they had that bull pen? Easily 25+
First - everyone was wearing 42 for Jackie R, which was cool but live at the game it was hard to figure out some things, and pinch hitters took a long time to get announced because even the announcer needed a bit of time to figure out who was who.
As for the game itself - a weird one. The Cards really gave the game away. Their pitchers struck out 17 Yanks but walked how many? 12? The Cards committed two errors, one crucial, and had two wild pitches and a passed ball. They hit two HRs and the Yanks had few hard hit balls. Bird is lost at the plate and Carter is not much better, although he did have a hard hit RBI single.
However, CC was great, Warren was fine and Clippard escaped though he did make it exciting. Also - and you see this better live - the Yanks' "D" looks pretty good all around.
"And finally, another tough day for Greg Bird, who went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. He is now 0-for-18 with two walks and eleven strikeouts in his last five games. Also, when Bird grounded out in the seventh inning, he could only jog down to first base. If he’s hobbled that much by the ankle, why in the world is he playing and not on the disabled list?"
Hicks looks much refined and stud like so far

That's not a bad idea. Hicks is playing pretty well this year and the Gardner-Ellsbury-Hicks outfield was great defensively today. (Not that Judge is a bad outfielder, but I think Hicks is probably better.)
The "x" factor is Holliday at 1B - Bird is pretty good defensively, not so sure about Holliday there. They didn't play him there in spring training, that I can recall. Also, hopefully it's just short term, but Holliday had to be scratched as DH today because of a stiff back.
The team is winning, the bullpen has looked great. CC has pitched very well and they are winning games. Why is everyone always so focused on the negative. Be happy this team is fun to watch again.
That seems to be what RAB is suggesting. I thought he was OK by now, but maybe not. Hard to rest him ... Carter sucks right now too.
Judge could be awesome at First B
We'd rather bitch.
CC is done. Who thinks he could start for any other ML team? Isn't that what I read here?

Maybe it is more than just a bruise?

While I agree with Carter not swinging a good bat, he too needs ABs to get into a consistent grove. Do not want to see Bird hurt a knee or pull a muscle compensating for the injury.
Might be best to let Carter play and let Bird heal more.
Even more impressive is this where they are at after the BP blowing saves in Baltimore.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

If Bird needs more rest, it might make sense to let Carter play 1B today against Wainwright (who he's probably seen a lot of) and then tomorrow as the Chisox are starting a LHP.
Those suggesting Bird should be sent down - who would come up? It would have to be Refsnyder - there's no other healthy 1B on the 40-man and the Yanks aren't using a 40-man move over Bird.
OTOH, if Bird is hurt, replacing him with Ref for a bit might not be crazy.

Enjoying this team right now. They are on a roll. Hope they can keep it up. All without Didi and Sanchez. Pretty impressive.

Yep. This is a really fun team to watch. They are HOT right now. No losing to inferior teams this weekend for this team.
Same with Headley, Castro, Hicks, and CC - great starts across the board
We'd rather bitch.
Yup that's why it's called a game thread
